I am Shudderwock, I am a turtle!
Hey everyone, this is Shudderstone again with a fun and this time very viable Shudderwock deck!
This time, I bring you a control heavy deck which can give you loads and loads of armor to make aggro futile against you. So the main purpose for this deck is to basically always win against aggro decks that flood the current wild meta.
I streamed this deck live on Twitch and got some very overwhelming games which are over in no-time.
This deck is very versatile, to give you the upper hand in almost every situation, but it also has a strong late game combo which you can activate from turn 11 onwards.
Combo pieces:
- Mo'Arg Forgefiend: If you play this against an aggro deck, they'll probably going to concede immediately. But for the combo you need one of these bad boys to die.
- N'Zoth: Unlike in my Elwynn boar deck, N'Zoth is quite safe to play if you have had a Forgefiend die earlier as it immediately gives you a body for the enemy to deal with.
- And of course you need Saronite Chain-Gang and Grumble to make the combo infinite.
Tips:
- Witchwood piper can get you both armor vendors early so you can get some armor early game, but remember to play ice fishing before you do so otherwise you might pull toxfin instead. When you have both Armor Vendors and the Flurgl-Tox combo already, playing another Witchwood Piper can get you Astalor instead! So Witchwood Piper is very very valuable to have!
- Snowblind Harpy is also a very niche but effective way to gain armor, because both Ice Fishing and Windchill (created by the Sleetbreaker) are frost spells. When you have played Ice Fishing once and you have the other one in your hand, keep it! If you are not able to or don't want to play Sleetbreaker, then keeping Ice Fishing in hand can guarantee lots of armor during infinite Shudderwock turns.
- This deck only has two ways of clearing the board, and that is Flurgl-Tox and Street Sweeper, so when you can get Street Sweeper in your starting hand when you see a Rogue, Pirate, Demon Hunter or Paladin, definitely keep it. Also, doubling the battlecry deals an insane 4 damage to all minions, which can clear most boards around turn 6.
Coilfang Constrictor
Best control card for Shudderwock
The thing about Shudderwock decks is that I can sit and play 17 games in a row while losing and still have a good time! I liked some of the interesting card choices here, but still couldn't make it work (just under 50%). Some of the aggro decks still pushed through, like dude paladin and pirate rogue. Odd quest hunter got me twice, as they can just ignore Mo'arg Forgefiend in the late game and go face. Aggro druid was also hit & miss, although I held them off longer than usual. The general problem with control is true here, wishing you had the card you needed when you needed it.
All said, however... when this works it is so frickin' much fun. Doubling the battlecry on Astalor with hero power and Brilliant Macaw is a ticket to happy town. I'm sure Astalor will be nerfed hard and soon. Enjoy it while it lasts.
I have been playing the deck for about 50 - 60 ish games now and I kind of have to agree. Sometimes the RNG just really gets you, and you get a really bad starting hand and the game is doomed from the beginning. I believe I had a 7-game lose streak once followed by an 8-game winstreak. So it really does depend on that a lot. I tried making a version without N'Zoth and the Forgefiends and armor minions and that helps to be more consistent against aggro.
Anyway, I'm really happy you tried it out! I will be posting more decks with a more fun gimmick soon so stay tuned!
So, I had a ManaThirst quest to do and decided to complete it with a bastardized version of your deck. The battlecry manathirst cards Sunfury Clergy and Coroner are a nice fit here. I knocked out some of the top end cards, as we discussed, and made it a little easier to get to Astalor Bloodsworn for his multi-battlecry goodness. I've got three tech cards in here, Gluttonous Ooze for weapons decks like rogue and deathknight, Eater of Secrets for secret mage, and Skulking Geist for mill jade druid. The deck plays more aggro'ish and focuses more on stopping their early game, before Grumble and Shudderwock can turn the whole thing into a moot point.
Anyway, thought I'd share this back to you, since it was your original deck idea and I've won 12 out of 14 games with this version in the last couple of days.

Hey SilverBeau, Thanks for your comment. I think this is a very nice edit of the deck. I haven't played in a while but I will definitely play this version once I get back into the game again. Tech cards are always nice to have, and with the current meta might even be necessary, so good choice! I love the platebreaker, since I had a very tilting game against armor druid :(. I'm always open for suggestions so message me anytime :)
Hi Dargor having good success with this deck. I am having no issues with card draw to be honest.
I have been very successful after i have completed the quest and then use Astalor Bloodsworn .This doubles you up on every turn and if you can throw in a Brilliant Macaw your laughing.
I tried your other shaman deck and thought that was ok as well but enjoying this one at the minute is helping me climb currently Diamond 8.
Keep them coming i love Shaman decks
Hey Burnley! Awesome stuff. I'm glad it's proving useful for you :), that's the main reason I make these! I hope you get to Legend with this deck! More decks will be coming soon, I have about 5 legit ones in mind already so stay alert :D
I love shudderwock and had high hopes for this deck, unfortunately there were several problems I ran into.
The first of course was the draw, all shudderwock decks suffer from this in one way or another and this is no exception.
You need primals as soon as possible and Nzoth was frequently a dead card in my hand because of not drawing the fiend before getting crushed.
I don"t mean to be hyper- critical, i appreciate you building this deck and hope you contnue to build more shudderwock decks but this is just not consistent enough for me.
Thank you for building it thou.
Hey Razor! Thanks for trying the deck out :)
I am very aware of this problem, and that has been one of the things that I just accept when playing the deck. In my video you will see games where I have quite good draw, but in other games that I didn't share, I got my draw a bit later and was still able to win just fine. You have to try and be very careful with mulligan and do with the resources at hand. A Witchwood Piper into Armor Vendor can make all the difference too. Or a Sleetbreaker into Snowblind Harpy or just immediately freeze the biggest target.
When it's about card draw, I am kind of at a loss. I feel like Shaman has very bad card draw in general, and my deck is very tight-knit around the ice-fishing and devolve spells to guarantee it with Primal Dungeoneer. But if you would have any suggestions I would be delighted!
I have other Shudderwock decks on my profile that might be fun for you, Denial Shudderwock for example is a ton of fun and quite effective. It got me to Diamond 1 2 stars, so almost Legend before the season reset(I didnt know it was resetting the next day)
