Hello folks,
It's the third season I hit legend with my Quest Mage, and eventually, I decided to share it with you. I will shortly explain how to play the deck in general, as well as mulligan and card choices.
Quest Mage plays around the card Time Warp, and it's potential to give you an additional turn to "wake" your giants up. However, there exist plenty more win conditions in the build than it seems at your first glance.
Win conditions:
-
Giants + Time Warp
-
Flamewaker + Sorcerer's Apprentice + many cheap spells (+ Time Warp)
-
Damage spells
Mulligan
This deck doesn't have fixed mulligan. It not only depends on the class that you are playing against but also on your current hand. I will write down some combinations that you want to keep on your hand:
- Elemental Evocation + Mana Cyclone
- Coin + Elemental Evocation + Chenvaala
- Book of Specters if you have no minions
Now some cards you generally want to keep on your hand when NOT playing against DH, Warrior or Warlock:
Evocation, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Questing Explorer, Licensed Adventurer, Starscryer, Magic Trick, Primordial Glyph, Stargazer Luna
Warlock:
Against both, Cube and Mechathun, you want to finish the game asap. Search for Evocation, Mana Cyclone, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Questing Explorer and Licensed Adventurer
If you face a cube lock Polymorph and Polymorph: Boar are your best friends
Demonhunter and Warrior:
Here you want to look for the Freeze Spells (Ray of Frost) and for the Flamewaker. Be aware that Primordial Glyph or Magic Trick might also give you Freezing possibilities. Try to stall the game until you can put out your giants to regain board control. Here, however, it's important to also build pressure by yourself, so don't be afraid to play Stargazer Luna against an empty board in turn 3. Also Evocation might give you reasonable cards to control the game, like Ice Block, Flame Ward or Frost Nova
Card Choices
Elemental Evocation: Amazing combination with Mana Cyclone or Chenvaala. Against Aggro it can be used to get a Mana Giant in early game
Evocation: One of the key cards in this deck after the nerf, amazing synchronization with Sorcerer's Apprentice and possibly Mana Cyclone. "Possible Replacement": Cabalist's Tome
Ray of Frost: Very good to stall turns or to destroy cheap minions against DH. Can also be used with discovered Snap Freeze or Shatter
Book of Specters: There are 18 minions and 12 spells in this deck. When you draw a book of Specters that's again one spell less. Sometimes you will discard a spell, even then you still draw two cards for two mana. Don't use it when you rely on the Evocation to win the game andor you have only minions on your hand, but don't be afraid to use it either. When the quest is finished, use it to draw your giants. However, if you don't like it, it can be replaced with Research Project or Arcane Intellect (depends on meta)
Stargazer Luna: This is a very flexible card. After your quest is finished you can use it to cycle through your deck. You can also use it as card draw during the quest-phase. If you can drop Luna in the mirror matchup and your opponent can handle it (most can't), it can be a gamechanger. You shouldn't worry to put her on an empty board against DH or Warlock.
Flamewaker: This card can be used for board clear or for damage. Don't hesitate to drop it on an empty board
I will write more with some upvotes.
I just hit Top 30 with this deck:
Any update?
This deck seems really, really weak to early game centric decks. I dunno how you managed to run into enough non-aggro decks to get legend with this, but I sure haven't been able to queue into anyone except warlocks, DH's, and other similar retard decks
could be vargoth in the deck?
Thanks for this deck, left an upvote and had 3 wins with it so far. I just replaced 1 Starscryer for Astromancer Solarian. Makes sence for me athough i didn´t feel any impact of the missing starscryer or (only one time small impact) the added Solarian ;)
Happy to hear, I needed much experimentation to make this deck work and rank me up (Legend 13 right now). Starscryer has the upside of drawing a spell (which then reduces the negative impact of Book of Specters).
Solarian is nice with Ray of Frost as it acts like your Hero Power, though Solarian Prime gonna have negative impact most of the time on this deck due to its high mana cost.
Should be renamed into regular quest mage and Chenvaala just to look cool and by cool I mean not 100% cancerous.
Techwise not running Spellwing will just make you lose more to aggro.
Well actually I thought so too, but I was proven wrong. If you can get a 5/5 giant next to a 2/5 Chenvaala against aggro in Turn 2/3 (Elemental Evocation into Chenvaala for coin and Sorcerer's Apprentice) your win rate is jumping over the roof.
Yeah it's a nice addition to the deck and will almost win you every midrange>control game cuz you make them waste their combo and resourcs on it.
But quest mage never had problems against those 2 deck types. It's problem is aggro and when you wouldn't drop Chenvaala over Flamewanker against them specially when you are already at 10 health by turn 3.
Dude, get a better legendary rank than OP first, then you criticise as much as you like.
What's an OP?
And how do you know I don't already have a better rank?
Against aggro I only feel like cheps spells + giants can you win you the game, unless you gain Chenvaala (which is a like a giant) or Flamewaker
Great deck!
How good is Chenvaala ? I hit legend before nerf and I didn't run this card.
I played this deck without Chenvaala for a long time. You can replace her with Violet Spellwing but it definitely wins you games against aggro. She is not a key card but boosts your winrate by 4-5%.
Especially the possibility of Elemental Evocation into Chenvaala can be amazing.
Don't post that cancer deck here -.- you realy want to more people play created by + giants otk deck in wild -.-
It's not like you have to play this deck
