I went from 15->4 since I've published this deck. I made some changes but core is the same. It's extremaly satysfying to play because it's basically shaman abuse and only loses to priest/hunter or ridiculous rng like transform discovery. Mage is tough too but in general more greedy deck wins. It's not nasty at all and I in fact found few new friends who gave me props after I burned their face.
If you hate shamans I can recommend this deck.
Another incarnation of Surprise Mage. I finally managed to build a variant that carried me to rank 4. Thanks to lots of paladins on ladder Power of Creation made an edge. I looted Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron so I included it for giggles. I used it only once and I had full board clear but I lost anyway :)
Rules stay the same:
- Mully for Arcane Intellect / Arcane Flakmage / Ancient Mysteries.
- Against priest it's wise to keep Polymorph, and against shaman or paladin it's wise to keep Flame Ward.
- Control the board and play for value. When enemy runs out of steam you can push face with Cloud Prince and Sunreaver Warmage.
- Splitting Image should be used combined with Khartut Defender.
- Keep Naga Sand Witch untill you can lower mana cost of 2x Pyroblast - this is the finisher that hits more often than anyone thinks. Nobody plays around 2x Pyroblast.
Few things I learned while playing:
- - it's always good to use Arcane Intellect on 3. Board doesn't matter
- - if you can play Cloud Prince on 5, while playing secret for 0 it is worth it
- - shamans have Hex and they ruin Splitting Image
- - hunters always have Dinotamer Brann on 7 and Ragnaros the Firelord on 8
- - let's not talk about druids
PS2. People who don't like Vaporize shall remember it's Surprise Mage
PS3. I do not recommend this deck at rank 5. I lost most of my games after I posted the video and never came closer than 2 stars anymore :D
Will recommend this deck to anyone who has the dust to spend!
Went from rank 20 in the fresh season to rank 14 in first 25 games 18W - 6L or about 75% winrate.
Super satisfying to play!
As soon as I started playing this, all I got was Quest Druid, Secret Hunter and Rogues on the ladder between 10 and 5. Dropped 10 stars in 35 games. It owns Shaman for sure, but is too slow to really be competitive.
lost only to quest shaman and secret palladin. finally got out of 20 right to 15 with two runs. thank you, man. really surprise deck.
most of surprise is Sunreaver.
naga bitch + 2 pyro = pity Priest with 23 healed health points. laughed off my ass
You are not losing to priest because you can't otk him. You lose because he resurrects things you couldn't transform or because he overhelmed you with early huge board you can't remove (6/7 health minions). If he won't do neither of these things you finish him with two minions that have 4 attack and one pyro. These games are coin flip like druid.
I was surprised how well Sunreaver Warmage works tbh. Better than Meteorologist.
Yea, these two decks have way too consistent draws to always be lucky. If you can't draw proper secrets with Arcane Flakmage is true tears... especially if you face guy who hit your face with lowest attack minion first. It burns.
How often can u actually take full use of the sand witch bitch? Havent happened me yet at least, its questionable if its worth it, that being said i havent played that many games yet ;) I hope it gets better though cause now i just got raped by a priest :( So angry! Felt that maybe with a blizzard i could have done it, he had that sick op spell that silence and destroys all minions TWICE in a row, there went my healing and n'zoth to hell and then he summoned his n'zoth ofcourse ... May the devil curse all priests! I've read some here in this forum and this is my current setup:
Thanks for your opinion!
Today I was semi successful and almost got to rank 4 (you can check on my twitch in past streams) and lost to fail draw vs murloc shaman (and then lost all next games untill I got to 0 stars again) with these replacements:
Naga Sand Witch is part of 4 cards combo in most of the times. How often? Not often, but this is the key in this deck. Have you watched the video? :D My conclusions are:
Same rules to any aggro. You have to play cards or clear his and hope for him to get low enough to combo down. They usually clear Naga Sand Witch and don't expect you to hit for more than 10.
That being said, these are very annoying matchups for hand mage so prepare for penetration :D
Played about 20 games and Naga+Pyro combo has never worked out. Either I win by nzoth or with secrets plays or got overwhelmed by druid/hunter and haven't got time to even draw the finisher, play alex and naga.
I think Blizzard is must
Thanks for the reply and advices!
Hurts removing those awesome cards, but Blizzard feels necessary indeed and Sunreaver Warmage seems like a good option, i'm also supercurious about what someone else in here mentioned, replacing Vaporize with Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron :) rngstone for the lulz :)
First of all i want to thank you for this deck. I have not being playing Hearthstone for a long time because i could not find any fun deck anymore, i was just playing my daily quest and brawls. With this deck i went from rank 20 to 6 in two days and it was always fun.
I do agree that Sylvanas Windrunner is too slow but still i think N'Zoth, the Corruptor is too valuable even without her, it is actually my win condition at least 50% of the time. The Mountain Giant was also a bit slow unless you draw perfectly at the beginning.
A card that i really do not like here is the Meteorologist, i see that it can have a great value but i think it is just too slow at 6 mana and not reliable. The Sunreaver Warmage is more reliable to take time and on turn 5 can really give buy you some time before a Blizzard or a Khartut Defender on turn 6.
I also really think Spellbender is good here because is usually unexpected, can help protect your big drops and is probably the most reliable secret to use and to trust that is stays there until you play a minion.
Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron is a desperate move but saved me many times and it adds a bit of fun sometimes.
My last consideration is that this deck desperately needs card draw at the beginning of the match so i added Bloodmage Thalnos and Loot Hoarder for the extra value with N'Zoth, the Corruptor as well.
Ok, so the deck listed is the one you are playing? Or de we have to figure out from the comments what the current list is?
Great deck anyway, we need more magedecks and the one listed is fun! Keep it up!
Thanks for comment. The variant in the video is worse ;) The deck listed is what I played from 15->5. In other comments there are different variants explained, it was just impossible to just play 4 hours straight with one list, I'm sorry if it confused you :)
Thanks for answering :)
I have played this deck alot. I do play ranked, and normally I end a season at somwhere between rank 5 and 2. With this list I played from rank 10 to 5 and I enjoyed it a lot.
Keep up the good work man, really appreciate it!
That's because the card isn't that great.
The best mage deck currently
I started playing this on top 500 and i faced three druids in a row. Soo i noticed that there is no win con against druids. SO GG...
I didn't even wanted to mention druid. It's the same feeling as with priest if not worse :)
I've been running your list so far and posted 4-0 at rank 7. I did sub out 4 cards...
-2 Polymorph
-1 Vaporize
-1 Mountain Giant
+2 Blizzard
+1 Emperor Thaurissan
+1 Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron
I know you said you "Blizzard was in this deck in place of [card]Polymorph[/card], for most of the time it just sits in your hand and you die before you can use it". I've been running into two scenarios with this. I can late play a flame ward and have them walk into blizzard on 6 which will finish off most of the evolved minions, OR... I'll blizzard stall for that turn then finish with meteorologist or arcane flaskmage.
With the high hand count I removed Mountain Giant and put in Emperor Thaurissan. Found that even though the giant is a great card for hitting that Conjurer's Calling, I'd much rather prefer to synergize every card in hand when my hand is full. I have found myself using Conjurer's Calling on mainly the 6 drops anyhow.
Some people might hate living on the RNG edge but I did replace Vaporize with Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron. I'll let you know if in the long run I would have preferred the Vaporize (short on secrets/vaporize would have been played instead of box, etc). But I can tell you that the puzzle box has pulled more games out of the gutter for me than probably any other card in the game. With the potential to 5 drop it, I'm sure a lot of wins will be pulled off it out of sheer RNG alone.
I dunno lemme know what you think. Its honestly a fun good deck. Good job on the creation. I've been skeptical lately to play secrets and this is quite fun. I've been running a quest/highlander hybrid I made. Fun deck and if you are on the edge just try it!
I'm doing testing right now. So far:
In my recent game Vaporize killed 8/8 Edwin VanCleef. I think after trying Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron you will have the same results as me with Power of Creation which initially was included.
I've only been liking puzzle for the sheer ability to turn the board completely around when I had no other options. Vaporize is great if they have Vancleef but that's completely conditional imo. I've just been playing around the fact that rogue has him and will hold one of the twinspells. of Conjurer's Calling for it. Then pick up the remains with meteorologist, blizzard, or flame ward. I dunno about removing the splitting image. Card is clutch with the defenders. By the way I'm in no means judging your opinion of any of these card choices. Just telling you where I stand with how I play my playstyle. I never did try the Piper. I need more games to fully decide which cards just don't cut it.
Side note: Sunreaver Warmage....talk me off the ledge here.
Honestly, Sunreaver Warmage looks like a good option. Pyroblast is in my hand every game (I think last evening we had only one game from 40 that we didn't draw Pyroblast) so it would be good play for 5 - we don't really have options for 5 if secret is not up. But what to replace?
