Freeze Shaman is here. This is not a drill: freeze shaman is here.
I'm excited to present Kiwiinbacon's showcase of my deck! Check out his other sweet deck showcases on his youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/CanadianRumPunch
Edit 3: I JUST PLAYED THE MIRROR MATCH ON LADDER! This is surreal - I queued the deck up and found myself as King Rastakhan vs. King Rastakhan. When he played plated beetle I thought 'surely not'... then he played Ice Cream Peddler and Hyldnir Frostrider.
Trielix beat me at my own deck but it was a blast!
I spectated his next game where he gained 124 armour and dealt 58 damage in one turn to a kingsbane rogue. Thanks for showing the deck off so well!

Write-up
NOTE: this is my write up from the initial version of the deck. It has gone through substantial changes since then, but I'll leave it here in case I feel like updating it to reflect the newest version at some point.
This deck revolves around Shudderwock utilising Ice Cream Peddler's battlecry to gain effectively infinite armour in the very late game, while shuffling an endless supply of Corrupted Blood in to the opponent's deck via Hakkar, the Soulflayer + Da Undatakah. Here's how the deck works in detail:
- The deck mostly functions like a normal Shudderwock deck with a game plan of controlling the board and getting your battlecry effects off. Most Shudderwock lists have a little more card draw than this deck, so Mana Tide Totem is essential to find ASAP.
- The deck runs DOUBLE Cryostasis, so that your Ice Cream Peddler can get value pre-Shudderwock. It was quite a struggle finding ways of making this card playable, and I initially had one Wax Elemental to up the consistency of having an excellent target for Cryostasis, but had to cut it. Cryostasis is much more effective when played on a taunt, and so Belligerent Gnome is a great target for it and naturally suits Shudderwock Shaman's control game plan. There is also the possibility in the late game for Zentimo + Rain of Toads + Cryostasis to provide you with massive stall potential. Even playing this same combo but with Saronite Chain Gang allows you a large amount of stall. Mana Tide Totem is naturally 0-attack and as a high-value card has soft taunt, and so it also makes a great Cryostasis target as it would never have been able to attack the following turn anyway.
- Hyldnir Frostrider is essential to the Shudderwock battlecry, because this allows Shudderwock to freeze the copies of itself (hopefully) before either of the Ice Cream Peddler battlecries go off, and thereby gain at least 8 armour per Shudderwock played. Of course this gives you no board pressure on your next turn, but if you play enough Shudderwocks in a turn then Glacial Shard should ensure that your opponent has no board pressure either.
- The deck has three specific Deathrattle minions only: Plated Beetle, Rotten Applebaum, and Hakkar, the Soulflayer. This is so that Da Undatakah (and then Shudderwock) guarantees gaining these three deathrattles exactly. This is so that later, whenever your Shudderwocks die, you will gain armour and restore health (the point of which is to enable you to survive turns in which you draw multiple Corrupted Bloods), and also shuffle more Corrupted Bloods into each deck. Note that you can play Undatakah whenever you like (e.g. before any deathrattles have gone off), because as long as the deathrattle minions have died when you play Shudderwock, the effect will then work. Note also that whenever your Shudderwocks die because they are returned to your hand when it is full, their deathrattles will go off, so activating your deathrattles is a lot easier than it may at first appear.
The result of all of this is that if you manage to survive until the very late game (and this is quite a big if), you will eventually be in a position where each turn you can play a full board of shudderwocks, gain a million armour, heal to full, and make your opponent kill themselves by drawing Corrupted Blood.
And you do all of this with FREEZE SHAMAN ... (sort of).
I'm really excited to see if there's any way this deck can work. Please suggest any refinements you think I could make as I'm sure the deck needs it.
Thanks!
Why not add [Lifedrinker] to this deck it would provide healing and direct damage, at least 1 replacing a [Corpsetaker] for one
Honestly this deck might just be better with 2x Lifedrinker instead of 2x Seaforium Bomber lol. I have a soft spot for bomber though, and with lifedrinkers the deck would be reaally similar to plain standard shudderwock shaman, which I was stubbornly trying to avoid. I would say Lifedrinker is a great replacement if you want to make it, though.
Yea I kinda figured but i love the idea of the bomber as well it adds more damage and another win condition than pure lifedrinker so id like to have both in the deck what should I replace for 1 or 2 lifedrinkers other than bomber as I said above I think I should maybe replace corpsetaker/zola/zilliax
Hey, so I've taken the deck for a spin (card for card) and it took me from rank 3 to 1 with around 80% winrate. A little biased since I did open with Keleseth in most of them, it made me chuckle. But the deck was really fun, I had a blast. Reason why is because it actually felt more like some weird Tempo Shaman. I NEVER pulled off the infinite armor combo in the successes, rather just grinded my way out, Bombers helped A TON vs togwaggle druids trying to draw out, and to be quite honest, I prefer it over lifedrinker because of it's body. A 5/5 or 6/6 on turn 5 is a nice tempo push, even the Hyldnir frostrider was a nice turn 3 tempo play, meanwhile lifedrinker is usually kept waiting in your hand just cuz it's a combo piece. I also love the ice cream peddler, it did provide some insane health vs a zoo warlock. (and don't get me started on corpsetaker, an amazing 3 drop and it's battlecry is carried on to Shudderwock in the end).
So yeah, Bomber over lifedrinker because better tempo, and I'm safely gonna call this deck midrange/ tempo with a twisted win condition, at least, in my own weird opinion. Great job on the list, it's really effective, i think it could turn into a masterpiece with more tweaking.
Thank you so much for the nice and insightful comment! :)
My thoughts are exactly the same, and actually it's because I think exactly the same that I almost feel a bit bad, in that the creative combo is not actually what makes the deck work. My recent good winrate with the deck, like yours, is because tempo 3 mana 4/4 on 3 is actually very strong, tempo corpsetakers with divine shield and windfury on 4 are extremely strong (I've won many games off the back of them alone), grumbled midrange minions when replayed for massive tempo swings are very strong, keleseth'd chain gangs are extremely strong. Even a keleseth'd al'akir in the late game can do amazing work clearing up the board or pushing burst damage. And then yeah, you have the midrange bodies of the bombers which actually serve the purpose of allowing your tempo game to push into the midgame. Then if you're against a slower deck which stabilises, you can fall back on the combo as your alternate game plan. It's quite effective to play the deck like this, as something that switches playstyles if it needs to.
Off topic but I want to mention it as you mentioned climbing with it - I've been having a lot of success climbing with exodia paladin (four horsemen, not bazookadin) and against my second rank 5 "final boss" I matched against someone playing my deck. That's the second time I've played my deck randomly on ladder now which is amazing haha. They beat me as well, and funnily enough it was through tempo not combo: played and zola'd a bomber > played bomber and grumbled it > played a couple more bombers then shudderwocked a few times so that I just died to ~20 bombs in my deck. I just got to rank 5 though so it's all good ;p
Thanks again, and if you have any suggestions for tweaks from your experience with the deck I'd love to hear them.
Ahhh, I see Disguised Toast is making your deck famous.
https://youtu.be/jjY5LYX0G-c
I just watched that! So cool! But no credit to me :( I don't mind him using it and profiting on youtube from it, not at all, I just would like to have it confirmed for my own interest that my deck inspired him because that would just be very cool (I love Toast).
I don't suppose you or anyone else knows definitely that he used my deck as inspiration? Like did he go to this page on stream? Thanks for sharing the video anyway :)
I wasnt watching the stream, I dont know really if he did see it here or somewhere else.
Although he says at start "Lets try this armor shaman everyone is talking about" or something like that.
I just saw him too on youtube and I remembered that you posted this kind of decklist before expansion hit and that we discussed it briefly.
Epic stuff anyway :D
I think I remember your name yeah! Haha thanks man. I've sent Toast a DM on twitter so I really hope he will read it and reply to confirm he was using my deck. I'll let you know! :)
I would say it kind of works xD
- my top armor (Undatakah version) is 603... but can't figure out to upload the screenshot (what do I put in for source)?
try https://imgur.com/
thats where i put mine :)
I removed an Acolyte of Pain and I added Lifedrinker is now bad :)
Niice that's awesome! Good job and I'm glad I inspired you :)
Well, to be honest this deck needs more card draw. I mean one more Acolyte of Pain or 2x Far Sight can do the job. Deck is good, but it's more like fun deck, it's pretty hard to do the combo with only one Acolyte of Pain and two Mana Tide Totem as card draw
You know as I've been playing the latest version I think I agree with you. The deck feels quite good to me now, but the largest weakness left is probably the card draw. Another thing I've noticed is that playing both Bombers usually doesn't really matter at all to whether or not you win (though obviously having only one in deck means you might never draw it, but I think that's a risk I'd be ok with taking) so I think I will cut a bomber for a second Acolyte or 1x Far Sight as you say. Thanks for the good suggestion!
It's pure RNG I'm afraid and it can be pretty frustrating when it keeps not going your way. It's really important with this deck to think about how many of each battlecry you want to play each game. You never want to play Grumble twice because this massively increases the chance that your shudderwocks will return everything to hand before freezing and ice creaming. That is unless you're playing against a midrange or faster deck and the pure value/tempo of bouncing and replaying Grumble will just win you the game on the spot, in which case go for it. If the game is going long though, try to avoid playing grumble twice at all costs.
On the other hand, you want to really try to prioritise playing chain gang as many times as possible, ideally at least 3 times in the game (so bounce at least one chain gang with zola or grumble). It's definitely the highest-value bounce target, more than ice cream or frostrider, because the more chances your shudder has of doubling itself before grumble, the more likely you will get 1-cost shudders in hand, and as soon as that happens you pretty much can't lose because playing ~10 shudders in one turn absolutely guarantees getting a ton of armour, much more than if you increase the number of ice creams or freezes your shudders play.
TL;DR:
Hope that helps!
Why only one Healing Rain?
Two reasons:
If you want a second Rain I'm sure you could make it work. I would say cutting 1 of the Bombers would be the best way of fitting it in. The trouble there is if your only Bomber is at the bottom of your deck, you have no way of actually winning the game until you draw it (apart from sheer Shudderwock board presence obviously). The good thing is that you will have infinite armour and board presence until you do draw it, though.
We're just a tiny bit off from 100k views! Thank you for all your support and I hope you all keep enjoying tanking up with ice creams as the meta develops. I have some other spicy deck ideas coming up so keep an eye out for those.
