Dear all,
Here is 6th deck that I proposed so far to defeat LoE bosses in heroic mode. Scarvash was defeated quite easily during my second try.
Note the decks I propose are built under these constraints :
- No old cards:
- No Naxxramas, no GvG (I did not play Hearthstone at this time)
- Avoid wild cards (except of course those earned by this adventure)
- Here we have only 4 wild cards
- Design deck as low cost as possible:
- Here we have a single legendary card: Baku the Mooneater
- Fortunately, many of you have probably already crafted it ;-)
Overview of the boss
As you guess, against heroic boss, the design of the deck is critical. Choosing the appropriate class and deck style is not straightforward. The key is to analyze the strengths of the boss and find solution to counter them.
There is three main difficulties with this boss:
- Problem 1: Scarvash benefits of a strong starting board: the most difficult part of this fight is to get the board control. It is not so easy because his starting creature are strong, so playing spell is the only way to do it. It means that his first turns will deal you massive damages.
- Problem 2: Most of his creatures are buffed by your spell: it prevents to play to many early spell because otherwise his board become two strong and you die fast.
- Problem 3: His passive is blocking: Every odd turns, your minions are very expensive. Every even turns, your spell are very expensive. This has two major bad consequences. First, it hardens the design of the deck. Second, depending on the turn number, you have many dead cards in hand.
For more information about this boss, I refer you to this well documented deck.
Design of this deck
Let see how this deck answers to the problems evoked in the previous section.
- Problem 1: this deck includes early spells to contains his first minions, and many taunt and healing cards to defend. Depending on the number of opponent minions, count whether it is worth in terms of damage to play your spells.
- Problem 2: we have two core cards to get the board:
- Mind Control Tech steals one of his minion and so balance the battle
- Several spells allowing to clear the board (especially Volcano). If you clear his board, you will basically summon minions as fast as Scarvash. But our synergies are better.
- Problem 3: to minimize the Scarvash's passive, I decided to build a Baku the Mooneater. Hence I have every turn a good manner to spend two mana. By playing it :
- You choose which totem you want : no more bad surprise, you can choose the best totem
- As a consequence, you can easily create several totems of the same types. For instance you can play many taunt totem to defend, many health totem to heal more efficiently, or many magic totem to improve your spells. This flexibility is needed to win the match and so Baku the Mooneater is mandatory in this deck.
The winning strategy
T1-T2 : defend as much as possible with your early cards (Wax Elemental, Tunnel Trogg, Lightning Bolt if worth). Spend the remaining mana to summon taunt totems.
T3 : Play Mind Control Tech (if he has 4 minions) to rebalance the fight
T4: Before playing Volcano, do not forget to trade to let 15HP at total on both boards. You do not really care to start from scratch the next turns. trade as well as you can to prepare Volcano.
T5: Once you have trade, clear the board with Volcano. This allows you to play your spells without too bad consequences.
T6+: Conclude the game !
- Defend the board: play as soon as possible Earth Elemental) to defend and to value trades. Always clear the opponent board.
- Snowball: remember the strongest of this deck resides in the combo hero power + Mukla's Champion.
- Indeed, after T5 you can almost summon a totem every turn. If Mukla's Champion, your minions will be so strong that Scarvash won't be able to contest the board.
- Note that running this card has also a very important consequence. When Scarvash plays Confuse, the buffed totems survive.
- Choose well your totems:
- Taunt totem prevents Scarvash to kill you or key minions, e.g. Mukla's Champion.
- Heal totems are great to heal a big minion (e.g. Earth Elemental) to do value trade. Magic totems are great to empower your small spells to kill his minions. These two kinds of totem are here to help you to keep control of the board.
- Fire totems help to trade or conclude the game.
Mulligan
Basically, good cards are early cards and the early key cards involved in "winning strategy" :
- Lightning Bolt especially if you have Tunnel Trogg in hand
- Earth Shock
- Wax Elemental
- Mind Control Tech
- Volcano
Possible modification / improvements
Do not hesitate to modify / improve the deck depending on your collection, and to share your ideas!
- Playing 2 Earth Elemental should mprove this decklist (but I've only one)
- I am wondering if playing Evolve, Doppelgangster, Thrall, Deathseer could be a good idea. It is odd, but it assumes that your Doppelgangster are alive when you plays Thrall, Deathseer.
Good luck!
Looks great. It worked second try. I replaced Mookla's Champions with Flametongue Totems. They worked great as I could repeatably make 2/2 Taunts once I stabilized the game.
Thanks! I swapped out the two Voodoo Hexxers for an Electra Stormsurge (never played) and another Earth Elemental. Worked on the second try.
Thanks for your feedback ;-)
