Ragnaros the Firelord was an incredibly powerful Elemental Lord and master of all fire elementals. He ruled for more than three hundred years over his minions from deep inside the fiery core of Blackrock Mountain. After being banished back to the Firelands, he aligned himself with Deathwing and his fellow Elemental Lord, Al'Akir, in the effort to purge all life from Azeroth. To help bring about the end of days, Ragnaros laid siege to the World Tree Nordrassil on Mount Hyjal, unleashing his most powerful minions. Despite the incredible destructive forces at his disposal, the mortal champions of Azeroth were able to lay siege to the Firelord's domain, where they bested all of the challenges he laid before them, and eventually destroyed him within his own fortress.
Ragnaros the Firelord
Card Text
Can't attack. At the end of your turn, deal 8 damage to a random enemy.
Flavor Text
Ragnaros was summoned by the Dark Iron dwarves, who were eventually enslaved by the Firelord. Summoning Ragnaros often doesn’t work out the way you want it to.
Card Sounds
Oh, is that what he says? I noticed he said something, but couldn't make it out. Thanks.
The art on this card has changed. The horns now appear to be glowing or made of fire and there are fire effects on the extended hand and a tiny bit added to his mace/hammer. Thought you ought to know.
I knew I wasn't crazy!
Had to google "ragnaros hearthstone" to compare it to the old one. The flaming horns makes it look like his head shrunk.
Best card in the game... :) Well at least the one thats gives you the most satisfaction for playing it...
Both my first legendary and my favourite. I like Ragnaros for many reasons:
1) He gets instant value. His ability triggers on the turn you play him, meaning you get instant value. Play Ragnaros, laugh as your opponents giant or something gets melted. And it doesn't even matter if he gets polymorphed or something the turn after, you get a 2-for-1 and peace of mind knowing your opponent has one less piece of hard removal left.
2) His stat line. I consider a card to be good if it's health and attack match its mana cost (or even exceeds in some cases.) I would still consider Ragnaros a good card even with he was a 5/5 for 8 with his ability. However, with Ragnaros you get a beefy 8 health and a huge 8 attack, meaning your opponent will have to sink a lot of minions to destroy him, and most of them will end up dead as well.
3) His method of attack. He has the ability "Can't attack. At the end of your turn, deal 8 damage to a random enemy." This means that Ragnaros can attack any enemy, and not get damaged himself. That's very, very good and the only other times you'll see that are with Bestial Wrath or Gladiator's Longbow.
4) He looks and sounds awesome. By fire be purged, so good. Gold Rag especially, I love the embers floating around him :)
5) He synergizes with literally everything. Literally. Everything. He synergizes especially well with AOE spells and minions like Flamestrike or Baron Geddon (to get rid of the weak cards you don't want Rag hitting) And once you play him, you'll soon see yourself changing to a trading strategy to optimize Rag's ability.
So, in conclusion, Ragnaros is a very good card. I strongly recommend crafting him if you don't have him already.
If you're not sure what to do against one, throw as many minions on the board as you can and hope for the best. Shaman and Paladin have an advantage in their hero power there. I've often survived a couple of rounds of him killing random minions, until I could top deck a Hex spell or other countermeasure.
This was my first legendary. Instead of keeping it like a normal person would, I disenchanted it for that extra 400 dust... A few days before I realized how good it actually is.
That was a mistake hes a great card
Drop Ragnaros. Win.
Except when he inevitably hits that 1/1.
The amount of times that this card has saved me... and screwed me over. I love this card.
Easily one of my favorite legendaries.
Even if he get's silenced its now an 8/8 bomb in my pally deck.
For late game i like to combo blessing of kings + faceless manipulator for a 12/12 x2.
So don't silence this card if you get the chance. Random dmg can be better than letting them attack you directly lol. Especially if you're low. I found out the hard way.
i agree with you to a point, the random damage can pass taunts unlike normal 8/8 rag
If I thought taunts were that effective i'd agree they have the ability to save. I don't play taunts so silencing it can only give them an advantage of choosing where they want to attack. Taunts are pretty much garbage with so many dispels, sheeping, froging, secrets, saps, mind controls, shadow words, spell breakers, owls, Black Knights, etc.. Just too many ways to get around a taunt, especially when you are past 8 mana and halfway through your deck the options are even greater. If you are playing someone spell heavy like a priest or drood then taunts are a wasted ability. If someone is 8 health or below and the other person has a Ragnaros, it is best to kill it or spew minions everywhere than to throw up a taunt and silence him. 9/10 times they will burn through that taunt with anything they can because they had half their deck to find something and they know it is a game ender and no reason to be conservative. I know if you're at 8 health the game is pretty much over anyways but I've had a lot of comebacks from 1-10 life before.
Probably the best Legendary in the game...
Definitely the most fun one.
Best legendary IMO. He's totally OP and has come through for me many times.
I pulled him in my second pack ever when first starting Hearthstone, and ever since he's been in my druid control deck. Thanks for all the wins buddy. :')
Bloody OP bastard. x3
Always a +1 or more in card advantage. Play it, kill something, they spend a card on it, walla, 2 for 1.
