Aw maaaaan, this card hurts my feelings
Since stowaway will rotate, in standard it looks tha will be harder to pull 3/10 more consistently, but I think Rogue has a lot of card draw to abuse, so it won't be that hard
Wtf is this card text? Shouldn't the card's text at least attempt to explain what the card does?
No. This is how these cards always work. Look at Cthun the Shattered, it doesnt say what any of his pieces do. Or the og Elise that just shuffles a Map to the Golden Monkey into your deck. We'll have to wait until they reveal the token.
Token was already revealed. It's a spell that casts when drawn that summons a 3/10 that immediately attacks your opponents face.
Memes aside... this card design worries me. It's barely a loss to play a 3 mana 3/4 in aggressive/midrange decks, and from there it turns into a coinflip of whether you get your all-expenses-paid 3/10 before the game ends. That doesn't make for particularly rewarding gameplay. There's a reason Fal'dorei Strider and Ticket Master shuffle three moderately impactful bonuses rather than one really substantial one; that makes the random reward a lot less hit-or-miss by allowing a whole spectrum of outcomes rather than just "did I draw this one card in time to matter".
This card design has existed since League of Explorers my dude. Elise had this effect in Explorers as well as Ungoro and she was basically a staple in multiple decks. This is also literally the effect of every single Prime legendary, as well as Waxadred, Baleful Banker, White Eyes, Doomcaller, and multiple others.
All of those were much slower than this card. Everycard you mentioned costs more than Mankrik(except Banker) and all cards generated other cards that need to be played(except waxadred). Mankrik wont reduce your temp too much and can win you the game if you draw his wife early as you dont need to spend mana on her. Completely different from your examples.
And every one of those cards makes something that actually has a significant impact. A 3/10 that does 3 to face is good, but it's hardly gamebreaking. This card is not faster, because you have more deck to go through. If it shuffles the card into the bottom 5, or bottom 10 it is just as slow as any of the other cards I mentioned.
Assuming you drop him on t3, you have about a 20% chance to draw her in the next 5 turns, maybe 30% if you're lock or something. And a 3/10 on turn 10+ is just ok. It's not that big a deal because it's not that consistent.
The problem isn't that you could get a 3/10 in the late game, but that you could get a 3/10 in the early game. Assuming you play mankrik on 3, you have around a 9.5% chance to draw his wife by turn 5, assuming you don't have any card draw. To get 3 mana 6/14 worth of stats by turn 5 is bonkers, basically game-winning. In other words, you have basically 10% to instantly win the game. This is horrible game design. None of your examples are like this, as you could either try to draw/have a good chance of drawing an answer, or try to close out the game beforehand. This card is uninteractive as your opponent just have to pray that you don't draw his wife, because by turn 5 having removal is not super-likely, and if they do have removal you could just put down another threat.
Just as OP said, this is poorly designed as it is too much of a coinflip.
You forgot to consider the amount of draw some classes have.
Warlock or Rogue with the 1 mana thing have way more chances than 20% to draw it.
Nearly 20 years later, and the Mankirk's Wife quest is still so iconic. They did the meme justice with this card.
Also you can find his wife in Shadowlands now (current wow expansion).
Stowaway: "Found Her!"
It wouldn't be a Barrens experience without Mankrik and is oh so unlively wife!
Barrens chat was the best, ever! :) So much nostalgia. Good memories - Loktar Ogar!!
Wasn’t there some dude named Chuck Norris or something that chatted a lot? I’m SURE that I remember Chuck Norris in the chat ...
* ducking *
