Showdown at Blackrock Mountain is This Week's Tavern Brawl
These two epic bosses of Blackrock Mountain are settling things once and for all... with your help!
Trivia
- This is the fifth time we've seen this brawl.
- This brawl made its debut on June 17, 2015.
- This brawl was the first ever Tavern Brawl! You're playing history!
- Games take place on the Blackrock Mountain gameboard with Molten Core card backs
How it Works
- Queue up and receive either Nefarian or Ragnaros as your hero.
- Ragnaros starts with 60 Health. His hero power is Molten Rage when initially summoned, which switches to DIE, INSECT! after Sulfuras has been destroyed.
- Nefarian starts with 30 Health and 30 Armor. His hero power is Wild Magic.
- Each deck contains very special cards with unique playstyles.
- Nefarian has an early game advantage in that he starts with extra mana crystals (4) and he can drop some great minions. Tons of RNG through his hero power though, so hope for the best!
- Ragnaros is weaker early game but if you get to turn 6 after always using your weapon, you get an amazing hero power. Make sure you mulligan for cheap cards to help!

Discuss this Week's Brawl
Head on over to our brawl forum to talk about the brawl.
Hard time with Nef. Always lose against the 20/20 minion and also the one that always wins the brawls. You have to be incredibly lucky with the spells that you got from Hero Power (I got one Palla legendary spell, totally useless) and also pray for be lucky enough for Rag not being lucky on its draws.
There are mechs in Nefarian's deck though, strong ones in fact, so Kangor's Endless Army seems really boss at 0 mana dude.
I remember the first 3 or so times when people still thought Nefarian was OP and getting Ragnarםs was an auto-loss... A 5/1 for 2 mana hero power is pretty insane. Unless your get crazy RNG with your wild magic or your opponent gets no early game cards Nefarian is greatly unfavored.
7\7 dragon on turn 1 from nef is also pretty insane.
True, but it's not hardly something you can't deal with when you have so many ways to damage him for 5 or 6 and then finish with the weapon.
Won first match with Rag, very close. A lucky Brawl saved me.
"Ragnaros is weaker early game..."
Well... I started with Living Lava. Opponent conceded 5 turns later. =)
Started with Living Lava. Opponent played Chromatic Drake.
And then you proceeded with attacking the drake and killing it with the weapon, and after proceeded to win the entire game?
No, The opponent had better minions all the time and slowly grinded me down.
I really wish Blizzard was upfront about the details in the tavern brawl's page. My first (blind) game gave me two 4 mana cards and one 5 mana cards, so naturally I mulligan's them away, hoping for cheaper cards. Then I got a hand full of 7 and 8 mana cards. Only AFTER that point does the game show that I start with 4 mana. Ugh.
I really like this brawl but somehow i can´t get these Core Hound Pup activated.
Also, is there some gamer out there who is willing enough to play this game to fatigue with me until RNG decides the brawl? Just destroy each other minions and let´s see what happens.

Are you keeping at least 1 Core Hound Pup on the board? I'm not sure, but I guess it doesn't trigger if you sacrifice them all..?
There as to be at least one hound alive so the others can be revived, if there is no hound the wording does not trigger.
Always enjoy when Brawls bring back the "Sorry" emote. No better way to express my condolences.
Strange, I'm experiencing a glitch, whenever sulfuras is destroyed my game freezes for me and I have to shut down and reconnect, and by that time I'm back is my opponent turn again and he has huge advange
Fun brawl. I had way more success with Rag than Nefarian though. Too much RNG in his hero power and if you don't get good cards from it, you lose from the tempo lost paying 2 mana for it. You are better off placing his strong minions early than trying to roll good spells out of his casino hero power. Rag has some good early game cards (like the 2 mana 6/6 taunt) and his second hero power usually seals the game. Though i must say that the Magma Ragers from his first hero power can be quite intimidating as well.
DIE INSECT!!
LIVE INSECT!!
When Nefarian gives you paladin discover spells 😬
First try i had Nefarian and i got darkest hour. Well guess what 8 mana open the gates + darkest hour and gg :D
First game played as Rag = a loss due to hero power free spell dinosize (feelsbadman) among other things going horribly wrong. Second game played as Rag = a win due to opponent leaving game, even though he was much closer to killing me than I was to killing him. Seems to me like Nef is the better of the two.
