Quote from BlizzardIn our ongoing quest to make Hearthstone more consistent and intuitive, we always pay close attention to what our players are saying about the game. In an upcoming update, we’re taking some steps toward improving consistency by making some small tweaks to certain minion types, based on your feedback.
Some minions in Hearthstone are categorized into Types, like Demons, Beasts, or Elementals. We’re going to be making changes to a few cards to make their Type match what you’d expect based on their art, fantasy, and where they fit in with Warcraft lore.
The following changes will be included in the next major Hearthstone update:
Molten Giant & Mountain Giant
Both Molten Giant and Mountain Giant will be reclassified as Elementals. This adds some additional options in Elemental-type decks, but also makes more sense from a visual standpoint—these lumbering towers of magma and stone are the epitome of Elementals.
Witchwood Piper
Witchwood Piper will be considered a Demon. This satyr minion is rather demonic in nature, which is in keeping with Warcraft canon, and so it makes sense to acknowledge that in Hearthstone. This is the first* time we have introduced a satyr to Hearthstone, so we want to associate them with their proper minion classification.
North Sea Kraken
In line with the fantasy of a giant, boat-smashing terror of the deep, North Sea Kraken will become a Beast. Just don’t call it calamari.
Jungle Moonkin
While visually very Beast-like, Moonkin are in fact intelligent humanoids. We currently have two collectible Moonkin in Hearthstone—Darkmire Moonkin and Jungle Moonkin—and one was a Beast and the other wasn’t. We agree with the overall community feedback that Moonkin should not be Beasts, so, for consistency’s sake, Moonkin will no longer be classified as Beasts.
We also discussed how to address spectral beast cards like Witchwood Grizzly and Arfus. Are they Beasts or not? For Witchwood Grizzly, we liked the gameplay interactions that it had with Witching Hour and Kathrena Winterwisp. We decided to update its art to make it look like a beast instead of a ghost. Arfus meanwhile, is seeing a lot of play because he is being Discovered by Deathstalker Rexxar, which is really fun, so we're leaving him as is for now.
As a follow up to our recent explanations regarding our refund policy, we would also like to clarify that minor consistency changes—such as name changes, templating updates, art updates, or Type changes that do not significantly affect the power level of a card—will not offer a full Arcane Dust refund.
In this case, since power levels remain essentially unchanged, we will not offer a full Arcane Dust refund.
If you’ve noticed any other minions that seem like they should be a different Type, let us know in the comments, or on Facebook and Twitter.

I don't know ... balance?
Which ones? Appart from undead beasts, which they already stated are controversial, I can't think of any.
Changing things based on Warcraft canon and lore, yet having removed '' Heroes of Warcraft'' from the game title ..! Lel
the change in the name allows the team to create characters and time lines, but stills in the warcraft world
Someone stated, after the title change, that Blizzard realized Gul'Dan is no hero. That's why they've changed it.
It's shorter so easier to remember and to be written down in less space. When one thinks about HS or so, one wouldn't think of the full name "Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft" but Heartstone instead right? Also, Gul'dan or Garrosh is no hero so....
new model giant mage coming.
Why Ship's Cannon isn't a mech?
it's not an automaton, its just a cannon(weapon).
True, but Demolisher and Meat Wagon are also Mechs, and they are just catapults (or at least they were in WC3)
If they start changing tags and that stuff, they should change all treants and that kind of shit to elementals, like in WoW.
Wrathion should be a Dragon, same as Chromie. It doesn't matter if they are in humanoid form, that doesn't change what they actually are.
On the contrary, I actually believe Wrathion and Chromie should stay untagged as Dragons. When they're in humanoid form, being tagged as a Dragon doesn't make sense. You have perfectly human(oid) looking characters and then seeing the Dragon tag at the bottom just feels very weird to me. Some people who aren't familiar with Warcraft lore might also see these characters for the very first time in Hearthstone and wonder "Why the heck is Wrathion a dragon? That is not a dragon." That and Wrathion's flavor text also makes fun of the fact that he's not a dragon, and making him a dragon would ruin the joke.
The new art for the Grizzly looks kinda ugly. I prefer the old one.
As for the minions, which are getting new tags - cool. I remember having a lot of fun back in Un'Goro, when I put Jade Spirit in my jade elemental shaman deck. We had more ways to activate Servant of Kalimos and also a better outcome in some cases. Making the giants elementals will certainly affect some decks and will make tempo elemental decks more powerful/synergistic. So gj.
Servant of Kalimos gets more interesting now.
Maybe Team 5 spent month for this changes. Instead of some balance changes LuL
handmage with spellstone now will be more good imho
Wake me up when they switch the art for Angry Chicken and Chicken.
(The GvG token, which apparently doesn't have a unique tag here.)
You'll need to use the card number (12355) instead of the name to link it: Chicken.
The swap would add some flavor but I think it's unlikely they'll ever do it. Definitely wouldn't mind it though.
Hate the art change on WW Grizzly.
Since when are Satyrs Demons?
We really need to buff Giants?
Other than that, I don’t care about the other changes
