zoo mage ?
Interesting card. Haven't seen many spell-less or not spell oriented mages.
Only one that comes in mind is Mech Mage (Wild now)
Spell-less mage? How that even makes sense?
Guess it also burns candles...
even elementals + even rush minions + greyhame is new play for this .
This card runs counter to the spell-heavy decks that mage has always used, and can potentially have 0 value if you hit 3 spells, instead of your minions.
I love it. This card represents a deckbuilding challenge. If it works, it's probably the best draw in the game for its price, and that's a delicious lure to make the deck, but at the same time, you have to radically change how you think about mage deck building if you don't want it to be a 2-mana destroy the top 3 cards of your deck. Every spell you run makes this card a bit worse, but many spells in mage are integral to the class (Things like Fireball, Polymorph, Frostbolt, or even Pyroblast and Frost Nova.) You have to decide, if you want to run this card, when a spell hurts your draw options enough that it's not worth its own value. Is that possible? It's been done before, with cards like Reno Jackson, and Prince Keleseth, and two two-mana draw 3s are gamechanging. Don't count it out. Early game, you can draw material, and fish for minion-based combo-pieces.
I'd also bring up, running this card doesn't even mean you have to run so low on spells. With Witch's Cauldron, you can run, for instance, cards like Fire Fly (which in concert become a Ruby Spellstone with a 2/4 body) and Igneous Elemental. Elemental mage, for that matter, can make value out of another spell-generating card, Lesser Ruby Spellstone, (Which is also best in minion heavy decks) and since Frost Lich Jaina isn't a spell, she's 100% safe to run with Book of Specters.
Basically, there is, as far as I can tell, a notable chance that this card is literally meta defining, massively increasing the refuel of elemental mage (Or another, as yet unmade minion-based mage), and allowing it to fight harder and last longer. Sure, every so often, you'll hit your other Book of Specters, and it'll suck, but sometimes you topdeck Patches the Pirate turn one, and pirate-warrior was still very strong.
I believe in this card potential
It's gonna feel good when my opponent pulls one of these in their freeze mage.
Insane value to be had with a minion focused mage deck.
Could this card be part of a Discard Mage spell deck? Maybe some minion cards yet to be revealed like "discard a spell and gain +2/+2"?
What happens if Book of Specters draws Scroll of Wonder? It is technically drawn, and that's the Scroll's trigger.
Seems like a decent arena card.
Thing is epic means a lot less now in arena, at least until they return to the old system...if they do. I am a fan of the current one myself.
i dunno, i always end up with a ton of spells with mage. maybe if it's your first pick or something, but then you're prob not picking better cards over minions.
I kinda love it. I can't exactly see the deck in my head, but in the right deck (if it exists), draw 3 for 2 is going to be amazing. If such a deck doesn't realistically exist, well, so be it. It's still a cool development.
Might work. I'm kinda skeptical of it in that use, but wouldn't be that surprised if it works. There's going to be a lot of time in Quest Mage where what you're digging for are tools to stay alive, and you don't want a draw tool that throws away your Frost Nova. Particularly with Ice Block gone, your stalls will be more important.
Might also work in the Leyline Manipulator combo mage, where you Simulacrum your Sorcerer's Apprentice. But again, I'd be worried that either of these methods would delete a lot of cards you need. It'll need to be felt out through practice.
you can use this in exodia mage and other otk versions if you draw all of your spells needed for the combo the other spells in your deck dont matter, if you draw your minions they are usually your card draw
so in all I think this helps you get thru your deck faster for specific cards or is a 2 mana draw 3 in a all minion deck so I think its great
They already got shit cards last expansion like deck of wonders and that one that transforms into a random spell every turn.
Ha HA! I scored another Ruby Spellstone! Come on, Pyroblast!
*rolls Book of Specters*
Aw come on!
I know that i a must include in a minion base mage deck, but I am the only one htat one copy of that in quest mage can work (I if its still a think after the iceblock leave us).
let me explain:
There is quite a lot of times in quest mage when you are almost set up but you need a part of the combo -> apprentice, archmage... by then you might be about to to die, and a fireball, frostball, etc won't save you, why dont just cycle your deck while you look for your combo enabler?
Yes, thats a dead card at the beggining, thats why i suggest one copy, but even in the beggining, if you have found your molten reflection/simulacrum you dont care about discarding spells, you just want to finish your deck fast..
