Six Shaman Cards Were Considered for Nerfs
Thanks to a post by Dean "Iksar" Ayala on reddit, we now know of six cards that were on the table for the recently announced nerfs. The cards were:
- Rockbiter Weapon
- Tunnel Trogg - Very close to being hit, but didn't hit a few of the powerful decks.
- Totem Golem
- Thing from Below
- Tuskarr Totemic
- Doomhammer (Little conversation)
We also learned that Shamans are not likely to get more low-cost ways to increase hero attack.
Quote from /u/IksarHSThe truth is that 'we're considering it' is the honest answer. We announced on Wednesday and as of Sunday night things still weren't set in stone. As of the previous Thursday we were having long group conversations about the pros and cons to changing each of the 5-6 Shaman cards we had considered. Once the changes were actually decided upon, we sent the blog out to localization to be translated and announced in all regions within 24 hours once that was complete. I think part of the miscommunication was that there was an interview with IGN posted here a couple days before the card changes documenting a lot about how things were 'on the radar'. That interview actually took place a couple days before it was published, before we had decided on a plan of action. (Source)Rockbiter, Trogg, Totem Golem, Thing From Below, Tuskarr, and a little conversation about Doomhammer. Some of those never reached serious consideration but it's still good to have a conversation about hypothetical impact. Trogg was very close, but didn't hit a few of the most powerful decks that already don't include him. Rockbiter was wider reaching and we felt that it set us up better for the future of Shaman. Tuskarr was the most clear offender of both power level and fun. (Source)
It's unlikely we'll make many more low-mana ways to increase the attack of your hero in Shaman. It's a little restrictive but that's okay. Shaman doesn't need to be about weapons every set to fit the fantasy for that class archetype. (Source)

wtf
#1 it's not a great card in the first place.
#2 Your profile picture is Calegos.
Just because you don't find it fun doesn't mean everyone doesn't find it fun. You honestly think everyone thinks the same way you do?
As someone who started this game a couple of months ago and consistently gotten to rank 5 with shamen, which made it easier to grind dust to craft cards that make other classes viable for me and fun to play without having to spend money, this is sad news =(
Tuskarr was a good decision for sure. Rockbiter I feel was only a problem with doomhammer.
It's incredible how many people just cry '4 mana 7/7'. I wonder how long it would take to make other mediocre cards a meme and anybody would cry for nerfing it.
At least most players understand that Tuskarr Totemic Nerf was a good decision.
Imo it's good that they didn't nerf Tunnel Trogg, I would have considered Thing from Below way higher on the nerf list. I think it would even be a great card without Taunt.
I think making it an 8 cost card with taunt would make it a little easier to deal with and still keep it as a relevant card
I don't like aggro/midrange shaman, but I don't think rockbiter was the problem. Very good card, but not a big problem. Also, the nerf needlessly hit control shaman as much as aggro. It even indirectly hit the shaman classic legendary!
Thing from Below, Totem Golem and to a lesser extent Flamewreathed Faceless are far more threatening and too cheap to use (yes, overload, yet you can throw them early, thus their 'threat index' is far higher than their total mana/stats ratio suggests). Also 2/3 of those cards are WOG, so they will be standard for a long while still, and untouched so far.
Tuskarr nerf is completely fair. Less game-breaking variation, while keeping it very good for totem shaman archetype.
They won't nerf Doomhammer because it is an epic. Notice that half of the cards being nerfed are free class cards, two are just Commons. Only Yogg is going to be worth anything when nerfed.
Seems like you missed Call of the Wild nerf.
I'm disappointed that this is what Shaman has come to. I was so excited for a cool control Shaman that utilized Totems, Overload and the Elemental cards. Instead, we got some crazy ass anti-fun aggro deck. Now Shaman is getting nerfs and I doubt we'll see it for a while. RIP dreams
*6 mana
In reality it's not very good and usually when used, it's a one of used to get that extra pressure, tempo, and aggression. Doesn't help to only have 3 mana crystals turn 5. It's just a meme tbh.
? its such a big tempo swimg that it doesnt matter anyou had a good boar even before it because you play aggro which makes this card dumb
It such a big target for cheap removal.
Pretty much every class has a pretty good one drop. It's only fair shaman has one also.
Yeah, if they had nerfed Tunnel Trogg on top of everything else Shaman would wind up being a complete joke.
Fiery bat not as much :/
If the Trogg worked like Mana Wyrm it would be a perfectly acceptable card. In it's current form it can still gain considerable value mid to late game with some overload in hand that makes it so much better. I think they did the right thing though leaving it alone because it's still a combo card that you need proper support to make it worth playing.
