Alan I agree with the thoughts but I don't think some of these are enough of nerfs. I do not think movement of pride should even reduce cost by 5. Even that is still too strong in standard. That would make Sargeras cost 4 which is still too dominant. I think Sargeras should be DEFAULT cost 10 mana, and that it should reduce him by (1) which would put him at 9. Essentially, if the Warlock makes it to turn 9, or 8 with a coin, they automatically win the game. Unless they nerf the taunt minions this is the only way. The fact of the matter is, the minions having taunt is too much defense for them each round on infinite value. Movement of Envy, removing 5 cards from your opponents deck for even 4 mana is really strong, I'd be fine with settling for 4 cards, but i'm inclined to say 3. 3 or 4 for sure should be going range. Otherwise, it's great to discuss with someone with an actual rational and reasonable changes. While we disagree on little, we agree on much. I just hope those in charge of the changes, are as competent as two random Hearthstone players on a forum are. Perhaps me and Alan3000 should be recruited to work for the balance team on Hearthstone? Because of recent it's been an absolute joke and a pathetic performance by their balance team. No wonder multiple people got fired, its time for some change. There must have been too much complatency there.
Are we sure that Tony is banned and not just reworked or nerfed ?
Is that icon meaning for sure he get banned ?
Yes
It could mean reworked, but it's not present for tony in standard, as they are across the other ones in multiple formats.
Well then I'm sad. I was using it to draw a couple of cards from opponent deck and then getting rid of him with Recombobulator
Card was fun, and will be gone because of toxic OTKs. Fuck this.
Should be reworked into :
And then no Jailer scam, no Un'goro scam, and no fatigue OTK scam with naturalize.
Just make it fun come on
No changes to Odyn is mindblowing.
How could Trial of the Jormungars possibly warrant a nerf. Is it strong in Wild?
My guess is that because everyone and their mom is playing jade & discolock,
Team5 was "afraid" everyone would flock to Midrange Hunter
Why is Chamber nerf only listed in Twist?
I was wondering why this was the case as well. It would stand to reason that Wild would also change, so hopefully that's just a typo on their end.
The only buff I can think of to make Frost Queen Sindragosa remotely viable is getting rid of the Blood Rune, which I never really liked the fact that it had. I get wanting to be cautious with power level, but I think Frost Death Knights not being able to run The Frost Queen herself is goddamn ridiculous.
A lot of these were in the "Matter of time" category in terms of nerfs. It's no secret that Gadgetzan Auctioneer has dodged the most nerfs of any card in the history of the game, but it ran out of luck this time around. People said all over that Tony, King of Piracy was going to get nerfed eventually upon its release, and while this isn't a nerf just yet, getting banned from Wild demonstrates how unfun this mechanic is, and means that - while we're not getting its nerf yet - they were right in that assessment. Firemancer Flurgl always felt super disgusting due to Toxfin giving you a 3 mana, 2 card one-sided board clear option which could be tutored easily. And then there's Mechwarper, which is almost certainly getting the Sorcerer's Apprentice treatment at the end of the Twist season for how much it allowed Mech decks to vomit their hands ridiculously early.
It's just as unfun in Standard and the Tony Druid deck has taken over the entire top end of ladder.
These were supposed to go out yesterday, keep that in mind.
And the problem is that Hearthstone is not an english only game. Many other languages need to know these buffs and nerfs too, which means localization, which means it takes time.
So instead of NOT saying anything or only serving the english audience, they choose to do a preview with just the card art. No localization needed. Everyone wins a little bit, and no one gets left out.
And tomorrow on Patch day they'll have the Patch notes localized (which was started days ago, possibly a week ago) and then everyone can read the changes in their own language.
I never considered that. You bring up a good point.
I’m sorry, but I don’t buy that explanation. Blizzard has no problem producing patch notes, in a variety of languages, in time for each patch, which usually follows just shortly after these teasers. And you can’t convince me that these graphics require any less effort to produce . And if they didn’t provide official translations, there would be plenty of volunteers to produce informal ones.
I think Blizzard just chooses to turn out these teasers in the mistaken belief that they generate more hype for the game,
Well, absolutely. They wouldn;t do these teasers if they didn't think they built hype for the upcoming patch with the nerfs.
But if you are going to do a teaser about the balance changes, people will mostly want to know what is being touched, just like you indicate. But that means localization (cause no of course they don't let that kind of stuff be done by volunteers) and localization takes time and money.
So if you want the maximum amount of hype, with the minimum amount of time and money spent on it, you get what we have now. Some basic graphics with the card art and some stylized indications of what will happen with said card.
It's a middle ground that still leaves some people unhappy, but from Blizz point of view it covers more of what they want then having some random dev tweet out some of the changes only in English and then dropping patchnotes.
If this was really their line of thinking, it would be very counterproductive (on a company level). Like, if you make your game available in multiple languages don't use that as an excuse to delay fixes to the game when they are needed. You didn't had to provide that support for multiple languages you did it because you wanted to, don't bring it up as an excuse now. Also, Blizzard has other games where patch notes come first in a language and then, after a day or two, are translated into the others. So it wouldn't be a first time.
It's more than probably either a marketing scheme or they're not 100% sure on some changes and they want to have this extra day to test the impact.
Anyways, not a big annoyance.
Why these damn teasers? Just tell us what you’re going to nerf! In! Plain! English!
I don’t really understand why they chose to nerf Coppertail. It doesn’t seem like an overpowering card. I think mech rogue would prefer a different mech if one were offered at 3 mana. Nerfing it, say to 4 mana, would hurt mech rogue a lot simply because there isn’t a good alternative.
I wonder what they want to do with these DK cards. Nobody plays Frost Queen Sindragosa, because it's a two-color card and Blood/Frost has never been a thing. It's a good discover, but a single buff is unlikely to make it playable in any deck (unless they change its rune requirements).
Down with the Ship and Tomb Traitor aren't the problem, the whole plague archetype is, because with plagues you want to play a slow, control game, but Unholy/Frost is not suitable for this. Therefore, anything other than giving both cards Lifesteal is unlikely to be enough to make current Plague DK viable.
At the same time, these are the only two cards from the entire plague package that require the Frost rune, so maybe it will simply be removed or replaced with a second Unholy rune. This would open up completely new possibilities for the archetype (e.g. pure Unholy or mix with Blood).
