Many streamers have made F2P Legend runs. TrumpSC just started one this month and is already rank 15, last I checked. He's playing Mage because of the strong basic/common spells, and because he got the free Death Knight.
Your maximum value will be found in neutral cards that can be put into many decks. Cards like Bonemare and Cobalt Scalebane are commons, yet some of the most powerful from the KFT set.
If you plan to stick with F2P, you'll be best served picking a class (or a few) that you like and focusing on those.
I don't think it's necessary to be able to play a meta deck card for card. For example, if you put together some complimentary cards (think Fire Fly, Tar Creeper, Fire Plume Phoenix, Servant of Kalimos, Stormwatcher), you can put them in any class with support cards to round them out.
Your homebrew deck might not be as refined as the meta deck your opponent is playing, but you can still have the advantage of A) knowing your deck better than they know theirs (as they probably didn't build it, rather copy/pasted) which can B) allow you to make better decisions than your opponent. That is your chance to shine.
To the extent possible, I'd lean toward crafting any viable neutral cards from the Classic set, rather than whatever flavor-of-the-month deck currently exists. If the deck you make falls out of favor, or when some of the cards you crafted for it rotate into Wild, that can feel bad.
I'm not crazy about the new Hero cards being a legendary card in your deck. Assuming the new Hero cards have fairly distinct mechanics from the basic heroes, it may be frustrating to build a deck around the Hero card, and then never draw the Hero card that game.
Take Hunter, for example. The base hero power, Steady Shot, naturally lends itself to an aggressive playstyle. You might think that Deathstalker Rexxar enables a new Control Hunter deck. But if you never draw the card and manage to play it during your match, then it's the same old "trying to play control without a supporting hero power" game people have been tinkering unsuccessfully with for years.
I know we already have something similar with Lord Jaraxxus. But Warlock is a unique class that can dig deep into the deck searching for tools, making "maybe I won't draw it" less of a concern as the game drags on. Decks will really need to be able to transition smoothly from the starting hero power to the replacement, however long it takes that transition to happen.
Have a little over 5k gold now, hoping to get up to 8k before expansion. That plus 50 packs plus any free packs should give me a decent chunk of the new set.

I have 59. Missing a few seasonals from early seasons, plus most of the ones that required spending money outside of the game.
Currently using Molten Core. Always liked the way it looks.

2424/2488 = 97.4%
But it's counting me off for only having 1/24 KaC cards (which seems unfair as you can only get one right now...)
Removing 23 from the denominator gives me 2424/2465 = 98.3%

A few thoughts:
Good luck!

For example, if you want to play control decks, it makes sense to have cards like Doomsayer, Mind Control Tech, Defender of Argus, The Black Knight, Alexstrasza, Ysera, Deathwing, Mountain Giant, etc. I'd also recommend class legendaries like Tirion Fordring and Archmage Antonidas. Staples like those will enable you to continue to play control as the various sets rotate in and out.
Once you've got those bases covered, have fun fitting them with whatever the latest control tools happen to be. :-)

Sure is easy to play around Mage secrets when you know it can't be Ice Block.

I saw the pop-up when I opened the game and was very confused.

Also worth noting the Hero cards aren't minions, and as such are immune to effects like Dirty Rat, Mirror Entity, and possibly the bane of Lord Jaraxxus, Sacrificial Pact.
Thoughts?

They haven't patched the Knights of the Frozen Throne content into the game yet, including your card back and the new pack design.

Also have 18k dust.

Maybe they are looking for ways to sell ad space to fund their site, in spite of people using ad blockers.

I tried that for fun, and queued into something like 17 straight matches that weren't my target (Pirate Warrior) and then gave up from boredom.

I may be a bit biased, but Warrior. :-)
I have Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Warrior. About 100 away from Shaman, Rogue, and Warlock still. Only about halfway to Priest.

I use Private Internet Access, and have never had a problem with Blizzard games.

I get the closing bug on my desktop AND laptop. Also if I spectate, it'll sometimes freeze on the victory/loss screen after the match.
Both are running W10 CU, and both have more than enough power for the game. Annoying.
