Are you seriously trying to say that when Undertaker was nerfed, it was just to free up design space for the future, and not to address an OP deck that had completely taken over the meta with a WR over 60%?

Tempo Mage hasn't been a thing for several expansions. If you're talking about the Aluneth deck, that's Aggro Mage.

I don't play that deck, yet I don't think this nerf is right. For starters, Mage wasn't in a great position anyway in the current meta. I agree that it could be annoying to play against when everything lined up perfectly and a Mana Wyrm snowballed  to win a game single-handedly. But it wasn't nearly consistent enough to make the deck competitive.

Furthermore, in typical Blizzard fashion, it was more of a complete annihilation of the card than a nerf. The only positive thing that can be said about the future Wyrm is that it might still be playable in Arena. By upping the mana cost of the card, instead of, for instance, making it a 1/2, they delay the deck's game plan by one full turn, making it completely unplayable.

Also in typical Blizzard fashion, the Classic cards, especially Mage Classic cards, are getting the axe instead of more problematic cards from expansions in the Standard rotation — yes, Explosive Runes, I'm looking at you. As a result of this greedy approach, the new player experience keeps getting worse, but they prefer adding 25 ridiculous new levels in Ranked to addressing the real issue.

So we've got a card that is not the strongest card in a deck that is at best tier 2, in a class that has no other serious Standard archetype (don't try to tell me that Exodia Mage is anything more than a joke) and this is your definition of a nerf that “needed to happen”? Okay...

That reminds me that I'm still waiting for the new strong decks that were supposed to be built around Warsong Commander. Oh well. Better not hold my breath.

By default, Arena runs don't expire. Blizzard only retires active Arena runs at the beginning and end of special events.

There's another option besides game-breaking OP and trash-tier unplayable cards. Or at least, there should be. If every card released is either pre-nerf Undertaker or Magma Rager in terms of power levels, this game is fucked.

I guess Blizzard's intentions are for Tournament mode to beat the record of Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy for longest development time.

What's wrong with it? I see no difference between the deck listed here and the recipe proposed in the Hearthstone client.

OK, so I've found the date of all the recipe Brawls in the wiki and summarized it here. (Yes, I know, the TGT Brawl wasn't really a recipe Brawl like this week: recipes didn't exist back then, there were only 2 decks available, you got one and your opponent the other one at random.)

Expansion Date of release Date of Brawl Delay
    The Grand Tournament August 24, 2015 August 19, 2015 5 days before
Whispers of the Old Gods April 26, 2016 August 10, 2016 106 days after
Mean Streets of Gadgetzan December 1, 2016 December 14, 2016 13 days after
    Journey to Un'Goro April 6, 2017 April 19, 2017 13 days after
Knights of the Frozen Throne August 10, 2017 September 13, 2017 34 days after
Kobolds and Catacombs December 12, 2017 none n/a
    The Witchwood April 12, 2018 April 25, 2018 13 days after
    The Boomsday Project August 7, 2018 August 22, 2018 15 days after

(Fun fact: the first wing of One Night in Karazhan was released on August 11, 2017. Yes, that's right, the very next day after the Old Gods recipe Brawl...)

Blizzard seems to have more or less settled on a schedule of releasing the Brawl two weeks after the expansion, even though I have never seen anybody give positive feedback about it and everyone loved the peek-into-TGT Brawl one week before the release. I really don't understand why they stick to it... *sigh*

IIRC it was the WotOG one that came out a couple of weeks before the release of Karazhan.

    Quote from Slain >>

its actually negative value to dust classic legendarys unless you have a full classic set. Since you cant draw double legendary hes increasing the chance for you to get a legendary you need. So unless you have full classic set i would recommend to keep him.

This is correct for regular legendaries, but here we're talking about a golden King Krush. The chance for you to get a legendary you need is therefore 100%, since disenchanting it will give you the 1600 dust you need to craft another one immediately.

I also think people are forgetting the minions MUST all have 7 health, no more and no less (Compare with the Fight Promoter text) which means you will need to damage minions with higher health to pull this off.

It certainly looks that way, but is there any official confirmation? It wouldn't be the first time that Blizzard printed inconsistent wording on cards. And while Mike Donais confirmed on reddit that Star Aligner counts himself in the 3 required 7-health minions, he said nothing in this thread about the exact health requirement.

All these "YES!" posts circle jerking by upvoting each other make me sick. This is yet another entry in an already too long list of tech cards that create more of a problem than the card they're supposed to deal with, and yet another entry in an already too long list of effects that Blizzard once claimed they would never use. We've now seen deck attacks, Mind Twist, the only one still missing is Jester's Cap, but I guess they're probably going to do it for the next expansion.

Horrible design. Should never have seen print at all.

How do they create more problems?  Honest question.  As far as Blizzard saying they would never use these effects, I do recall something to that effect but I would like to see the actual quote again.  My impression of it was they didn't want to use to many of those effects.  Indeed they haven't.  It's not so wide spread that I need to worry about it now at any rate.  Plus things change.  I don't see this card as problematic and I am interested in knowing why you do.  Lastly, outside of your assertion that these sort of cards are not by nature good, how is the design horrible?  If your point is that because these cards are problematic and that is why the design is horrible then please ignore my last question.

Since there are lots of past examples of cards that everybody thought would break the game and ended up barely seeing any play, and vice-versa, we can't really know at the moment whether this card is going to be good or not. If it's not, then it's a waste of a card slot, which is bad design in and of itself, plus it also fails to address the problem of Shudderwock, which it was designed to fix.

But the main problem is if the card ends up being good. It will not only screw Shudderwock decks, it will also screw every deck which win condition prominently features one or several specific minions, especially legendary minions; and these are generally the most complex and skill-requiring decks to play. On the other hand, which decks are going to be relatively unaffected by this card? All the decks that include lots of more or less interchangeable minions. I think that anyone who played through the Pirate Warrior era (or several other similar eras of dominance of a mindless aggro deck) would agree that encouraging players to vomit their hand onto the board and only ever point at face does not make for an interesting meta.

In my opinion, this is a consequence of Blizzard's nerf policy. Whenever they nerf a card, more often than not, they make it completely unplayable. As a result, players who used it (and who generally wouldn't have minded a milder change if the card really was broken) are pissed off. Therefore, Blizzard avoid nerfing cards as much as they can and try to print knee-jerk hate cards instead, which either do nothing, like Golakka Crawler for Pirates, or have wider consequences, like Skulking Geist when Blizzard either forgot or no longer gave a fuck that there were other 1-mana spells than Jade Idol. Instead, if Blizzard took advantage of the fact that Hearthstone is a digital card game and released smaller balance changes more often, the situation wouldn't reach the point where half the player base uses the problem card every game and the other half is sick of it, and they would have a better chance to get the cards to a power level somewhere in between OP and trash.
