I agree. Blizzard is pumping out more content than ever, yet I find most of it unimaginative and bland. Most printed cards are all either powercrept or recycled versions of older cards. It has been a long time since we have seen some game-changing mechanics such as hero cards or quests some years ago. I feel like 'the end' of traditional Hearthstone might be near. There are only so many mechanics which can be added on a game which is relatively simple in nature. Of course, Hearthstone won't die. This game will still exist in 10 years(and probably more) even without new content.
Reminds me of the "ticking bomb" ability that the bosses in Blackrock Mountain used. I really liked this effect for some reason, maybe because of the neat animation
Eg, Why play a dragon priest deck when quest priest will win games quicker and more consistently.
Dragon Priest is a tempo/midrange deck. Quest Priest isn't that. There's lots of reasons to run a dragon priest (especially spell-based priest) build over quest priest.
I think Kazakusan decks have potential. At least to be really fun.
Midrange Priest might finally be a thing again.
Dont think Dragon Priest is quite there yet, but the "Chaos" (Light and Dark) theme they went for with Lightmaw Netherdrake is VERY exciting. Anyone who has played Yugioh is familiar with the archetype, and if thats the direction they want priest to go post rotation then I'm sold.
Call it reprints or "revisited cards" anyway, for me it is not fun at all playing cards that more or less already existed.
Lack of innovation is huge here.
Just go play MtG Arena or Yugioh. Oh wait, they ALL revisit old concepts now and then, cuz thats what old card games end up having to do in order to push out new content constantly. Your expectations are highly misplaced.
You can't say this guy is not in the right though. Hearthstone has not innovated a lot these last few years. Sure there were some additions that shook up the game a bit such as Demon Hunter and spell schools. Other than that, the last year has only been recycling of old concepts.
The lack of innovation is explained by the sheer amount unrelated game modes which are being put out as well. What do Mercenaries and Battlegrounds even have to do with base game Hearthstone other than being set in the same universe? They are completely unrelated and just a way to save the sinking ship that is hearthstone (from a business perspective).
I was thinking about this as well when I saw Vulpera Toxinblade the other day. However, FitB is the greatest offender in my opinion as it introudced the abomination that is Guff Runetotem. This charcarcter just resembles Hearhstone becoming a children shitshow.
Might not be the best place to ask this but do any of you have any experience with Starcraft 2? I have been playing a lot of Supreme Commander(FAF) lately and it seems that starcraft 2 is quite similar to this game so I wanted to try it out. Personally, my limited experience with Blizzard games is quite good. I find Hearthstone, Overwatch and WoW (to a lesser extent) to be very user friendly. You can really see that a lot of attention has been put in music, voice lines, UI design and general gameplay. Does the same apply to Starcraft? I noticed it was F2P so I would imagine it could be just as difficult to come into as Hearthstone. I am not looking to spend a lot of money on Starcraft. Looking forward to your replies!
I think we won't even notice anything, just the money going to a different party which is what this transfer is essentially all about. Doubt they will even touch the hearthstone development team in any matter.
Mr. Smite might get a nerf in next Thursday's patch so if you are solely doing it for the dust I would wait on that. All cards you buy from this set are disenchantable.
My presumption (I don't think there's been confirmation) is that you'll have them as long as they remain in the Core set. Perhaps some would get moved out of Core (and Standard as a whole), but if so they'd almost surely be replacedby new free cards. I bet anything moved out of Core/Standard would need to be crafted to use in Wild.
Most of them are probably safe for now. They're only a year old, and most things have been going on a 2-year cycle. I certainly can't see Reckoning being removed. I wouldn't be shocked with, say, Illidari Inquisitor. If Bliz felt that they didn't want such a big card going face in 2022, they might remove it from Core and Standard, where if you wanted it to use in Wild you'd need to craft it. But if they did this, I'd strongly suspect that some different free big demon would replace it.
If they felt Reckoning was too boring, they might replace it with a Paladin secret they felt was stronger. You'd need to craft Reckoning if you wanted it in Wild, but you'd get a replacement secretfor free.
I'd be surprised to see anything leave Core without being replaced by something else which was also free.
But it's also worth noting that churn should happen. There haven't been too many perpetual Core cards so far, and it's only been a year, but the goal is to eventually see stuff like Taelan getting swapped out (not yet, he's too new, but maybe in another two years) for some new neutral Legendary minion, maybe a 3rd round of the Dragon Aspects, and so forth. The point of a Core set like this is so that it can change. The old model of the never-changing Classic and Basic sets lead to a lot of really boring staple cards that Blizzard had to keep nerfing since they didn't feel they could remove them. Now, the structure of Core is different, and the devs could replace problematic (or just overplayed and repetitive) cards with entirely new ones, with strays from older sets which never had a place to shine (I'm looking at you, Coldara Drake), and keep the game more vibrant.
I get that the cards are free, and I will get the same amount of cards in return(or even keep them as many will probably stay in the core set). However, this way blizzard is essentially printing an extra 20-30 cards per year which players have to collect. I am not saying this is a bad thing but I feel like this increases the cost of the game yet again. Either that or the cards will be forgotten forever just like High Inquisitor Whitemane or Natalie Seline were.
Just like you said I would like them to just use a base of classic cards and sprinkle in some interesting wild cards. That would be way more interesting than having these filler cards added each year.
Does anybody know what happens exactly to the core cards once the year of the gryphon rotates? Blizzard has clearly stated that the core set is only a "loan" but does that mean that I also lose all these new cards which were given to me for free at the beginning of the year. I am talking about the new cards and not the ones from classic or wild which were recycled. Just to name a few:
I can't find a clear explanation anywhere. Honestly, it would be a bummer to have to craft cards like Taelan or Aegwynn but I don't expect much from Blizzard anyway(I think it's like 30 cards in total of which 10 are legendaries)
I played it a lot when it was first released and really enjoyed it. After some time, I noticed that I wasn't playing for fun anymore but just to grind quests and bounties for more hero coins and packs. Luckily I quickly saw the game mode was a dead end and quit playing. Haven't touched it since.

Honorable mention goes to pirate warrior(Stormwind Freebooter, Bloodsail Deckhand, Ratchet Privateer)

This isn't mentioned anywhere in that article or I might be looking over it

Most of the ideas have been mentioned already. Here are some which I thought of:
All I could think of for now, let me know how it goes!
