I've been playing for about a month now and have tried out the arena 3-4 times. I'm a pretty casual player. Usually play at least one game per day, sometimes more.At first I always spent my gold on new packs so I could try to build up my collection. Then I started reading that you should spent the extra 50 and play in the Arena since you are still going to get a pack and at least one other prize, even if you don't win a single game. Now I'm starting to question that theory. I'm finding that even if I draft potentially good decks in the Arena, I often just don't have enough familiarity with a lot of the better cards to know how to properly use them and therefore I struggle. So now I think my gold-spending strategy should just go back to buying packs, building my collection, crafting new stuff, and learning more about how all of the cards in my favorite classes (and eventually all classes) work best. Build up my comfort level with the better cards. Learn how to best use them and build combos, etc. Then swing back to the Arena. Right now I just feel like I'm spending all of this time to draft a deck and play a handful of games with cards I don't usually use only to just end up with a deck and maybe a little extra gold or dust. Since I don't play a ton, this is not the most fun use of my time. If I just bought packs, I could get 3 packs for the same as what I'd spend for 2 Arena runs.
I started playing on an iPad so that's where I've played all but maybe 2 games (and only then because my daughter had hijacked my iPad for a bit). I have the 3rd Gen iPad (the first one with Retina) and it's plays great. The only "lag" I ever see is in the menus. Example, I tap "My Collection" and it takes several seconds for the screen to change and open up my decks. Actual gameplay though is pretty much flawless. I have sometimes had my "End Turn" button get messed up, but I think that was something on Blizzard's end, not mine.
Unless you just love your PC/Mac and enjoy sitting in front of a computer to play, iPad is the way to go.
Thanks for the replies. Good tip on the Alchemist. I guess the ones that I'm less familiar with are the class-specific ones as I haven't played Priest in a while. I'd have loved to pick up Shadow Word: Death but they never came up. Bummer.
Just made this one. Hadn't played Priest in a while but have always liked it so I figured I'd give it a try. Before I dive in, what do some of you more experienced Arena folks think? Any chance? Only ask because I made a Mage deck that others said was good, but I tanked with it. Any and all (constructive) feedback is welcome. I should also point out that there are a LOT of cards in this deck that I don't have any experience with so tips would be great.
Wait I'm confused; having 3x Water Ele and 4x Fireball makes for a bad mage deck?
I reckon I could pilot that thing to 7-10 wins. Looks pretty solid to me
I figure it's because he had too much going on in the same spot. 13 4-drops makes for a rather awkward curve, no matter how good they are.
With 2 Mana Wyrms, 2 Knife Jugglers and 3 Harvest Golems on top of a few other 2/3 drops nobody should have problems smoothing over the heavy 4's.
That deck is very solid, too bad no Frostbolts, but I'd not be unhappy at all with that deck at all. The fact that he called it a bad deck kind of proves his statement of 'still bad at arena'.
Thanks for the feedback folks. Yeah, I think this was maybe my third run at the Arena ever. I guess there are some good cars there, the problem was that I almost never saw them. Two of the losses were when 1) I never drew anything but spells and 2) I never drew anything but minions. The one win was a good balance in the draws.
Maybe I'll have better luck next time. Practice practice practice.
Not quite zero wins. I somehow managed to sneak in one sad win with this turd. Still new at Arena and it shows! And then of course the pack I get was 4 commons and one rare that I already have. Salt on the wound.
I got a Big Game Hunter from a pack and I feel like I want to try to run it in a couple of decks, but it also feels like the Battlecry is just too situationally specific.
This may be a no-brainer, but it has helped me on several occasions...if you are attacking an opponent that has a Secret enabled, always attack with your lowest attack and/or value minion first. Many of the more common Secrets out there either deflect the damage back to you, to another minion, or just stop it entirely. No point wasting a high damage/value minion on that.
Thanks for the reply. Honestly not sure what my exact style of play really is. I'm still learning what all of the different deck types mean. With this one I find myself using a lot of the spells to keep my opponent's side of the board under control while going for the face with the minions until I wear him/her down enough that I can finish things with one or two buffed Fireball.
I feel like I want to drop one of the Spell +1 minions and the Water Elemental. I just haven't gotten full benefit of that one and another card draw would be nice.
I'm relatively new at HearthStone (and pretty much entirely new to CCGs) so this is really my first deck that I tried to put some thought into and try it out in Ranked play.
I haven't done much card crafting yet (but I was sure to go ahead and craft Azure Drake as soon as I could. There are some cards where you might think I should have 2 where I just have 1. That is most likely just because I don't have 2 yet. Ice Lance is missing. I don't have any yet.
I jumped into Ranked play with this deck just to see if I could at least get to rank 20 and get the card back. Without much trouble, I got to 20 with 8 wins in one evening and am currently at 18 after only playing Ranked for a few days. I've started to find that the luck of my card draws can make or break me with this one. On more than one occasion I've had the enemy on the ropes and I just couldn't draw the right cards to get lethal. Other times, I don't ever get touched and easily win.
Happy to take any constructive feedback! I'll probably leave it as-is to finish out this season but am looking to see what changes to make (that I can afford) for next season.

Got it. Thanks.

This might be a silly one, but does "Got the Basics!" mean all of the Golden Basics or just the standard ones?

I like this better. Rebirth sounded too, I don't know...messy.
