Totally get what you’re saying if it’s in respect to Kingsbane Rogue. The problem with that argument is that anyone who played Kingsbane Rogue was morally bankrupt and is getting what they deserve!

You play this in a deck full of "kill-me-now-or-else" minions (that preferably have some decent Attack). Imagine this protecting a Gadgetzan Auctioneer or an Oondasta or a Linecracker.

A sense of progression is a huge part of any game.
Every Rumble Run you play is a game on ladder you did not, which is one less match towards gold rewards which is one more step towards progression. For a player who wants to build their collection, they are effectively punished for playing RR, same with all of the solo experiences.

When exactly did "selling something" become "locking something behind a paywall"?

This is absolutely a nerf.
People crafted this card AFTER seeing how it works. It's not a matter of them making a risky decision based on poor understanding of game mechanics.
Hearthstone has a LONG history of unintuitive and unclear card interactions. The smart thing for any player to do when reading a card like Tess is to wait and see how in this particular case, Tess would work.
They did. They diligently watched. They saw how Tess was working, and based on that made their decision as to whether or not to craft it.
Now Blizzard has changed the way the card works making it unquestionably less powerful. It's as clear cut a nerf as any has been.

"Play" means you have to play the card from your hand
"Summon" means the minion has to enter play somehow
Ixlid says "play" a minion. Murloc Tidecaller says "summon a Murloc"

Oh No. It is very much an Aggro Meta incoming.
All the nerfs except Rogue Quest were targeted towards making the cards slower. That means those decks become more vulnerable to Aggro. Void Lord on 7 is just as strong as Void Lord on 6 against control.
Polish off your Hunter decks. This is an aggro meta.

It's pretty Good in Wild.
I'm not aware of any competitive tier Standard decks that use it though. It's a strong ability and I'd wager that as time goes and more battlecry minions are added to the game it will get better and better.
For the moment, if you're looking to build competitive Standard decks, there's probably better choices for your dust.

Why not patch it earlier and let the pros show that they're pros and deal with it?

Shaman also has Crackling Doom
I'd take a handful of Totemic Might's for a Crackling Doom

It is super fun. Actually, you can run it without the Coldlight's. InfiniteLesser Mithril Spellstone give a fine alternate win condition to Mill. Blackhowl Gunspire might be an interesting add too.
Losing Dirty Rat Hurts for sure, but perhaps one of the new Witchwood cards will fill the gap. Nothing looks as impactful at first glance, but maybe Witchwood Grizzly, will work in the new Meta. Or maybe Warpath will help
Either way, I actually think Warrior is looking to be in very good shape post WW
