I think the biggest "problem" when it comes to HS is that it can take a frustratingly long time to get good enough to get that legend status. Not everyone is a pro gamer or has the time and/or inclination to spend 12 hours/day playing HS, reading on strategies, going on online forums, etc, and it can make for a frustrating experience when you lose, and you don't know what you could have done better/different.
But that's the whole point of a learning curve, it's like most blizz games, the basics are real easy, to be a top player, you have to really dedicate yourself to it.
ravenholdt assassin is removed by what immediately? malygos boosted fan of knives? not flamestrike, that's only 4 dmg. molten giant shadow flame if they're already that low. you'll get beefy cards from packs. simply knowing how to get gold from achievements, you'll have like 5 packs in the first day.
Ravenholdt assassin is just an example I give, although it can't be removed, it does nothing on the board when you are behind and easily stopped by cheap taunt.
The problem is even opening packs also comes down to RNG. I have played for 2 months, opened 60+ packs and I only got 2 Legendary, Jarrax and Tinkmaster which I don't even use. I got tons of epics but mostly useless ones like Pirates Leader, Farsight and Twisting nether, no giants whatsoever. The best card I have ever gotten was Faceless Manipulator and that's it. All the time I have to juggle with lots of Legendaries with only commons/rares and I swear the amount of time I could have won if I ever had Rag/Leeroy is unaccountable. When you have decks like mine, you will feel the frustration.
I have played for 2 months, opened 60+ packs and I only got 2 Legendary, Jarrax and Tinkmaster which I don't even use.
That is some bad luck. On average, you should get a legendary every 20 packs. Maybe your next 20 packs you'll get two or three.
Do you have any golden cards? I've disenchanted every golden card I could, because I'd rather have the non-gold version of two or three other cards, than a gold version of one. Hell, the other day I got a golden Leeroy Jenkins. I already have the regular version. Took no thought at all to disenchant him and pick up a legendary I was missing.
I'm also not afraid to spend a bit of money, and in early days I did buy 120 packs. I'm filling out the remainder of my collection without spending money though, and am saving gold to purchase Naxxramas in-game.
I have all the legendaries in game and got legendary rank last season. 0€ spent, any other arguments?
I guess you have played since beta and spent 6+ hours per day. Well then that's almost like you spent time playing instead of working and use money to purchase packs.

Yes i have played since the beta. And rarely people works like 15h/day, so u will have nice amount of time to play also. And i enjoy earning my cards and building own decks, instead of just using real money and copying all decks.

sounds like if you DE'd all of your unused cards (like i do) you'd be able to afford some neeto legendaries. i recommend researching cards that just plain serve no purpose and DE all of them. unless you like collecting cards. then why complain? the means are right there in front of you, why complain about the end when it's all the same.
Playing to cap and doing quests gets you over 4000 gold a month. That's a load of free packs every month. You can't not have cards if you actually try, and if you aren't trying then what exactly do you want? What's wrong with spending money on this game anyways? The people buying cards are keeping the game going, not the f2p crowd. Why treat supporting a game as some kind of dirty act? Buying cards isn't paying to win, it's just how games work.
Zoo and Hunter were already given as examples of viable free-to-play decks, and the response was a cry for help about being pigeon holed. I don't understand how you can refuse to spend money or time on a game and demand to be on even footing with everyone else.
This game being free to play gives people the most peculiar sense of entitlement.
Why is this thread necessary? Congrats OP you won 1000 games, so have lots of other people. No one cares what you think of the game, you are not a unique snowflake. If its so hard and so unfair why did you stick around to win 1000 games? Simply to prove a point to yourself and to Blizzard that you are just plain better than their flawed system? You've given examples of why the game is flawed in a vacuum. You bring up hypothetical situations to support your flimsy argument. You bring up Leeroy, two E's in that by the way, and how insane Leeroy can be. Have you ever seen what a Knife Juggler can do to Leeroy? Go on youtube and look it up, there are loads of videos of the Knife Juggler knifing him before it can do anything. There are hard counters to everything in this game. If you're not smart enough to figure it out that's your own problem, if you're blowing Hex's and Polymorph's early that's your fault. If you don't realize that this is Warcraft: The Gathering, and if you expected anything less then you don't understand collectible card games.
The fact that this discussion is taking place on a forum located within the website HEATHPWN and is STILL getting about 30% agreement that its not even a question that it is pay 2 win is telling.
To find yourself here, create an account, find this post and take the time to respond to defend your position makes you the 1% of an ULTRA minority.
Half the people defending this game have probably spent well over $100+ and will do just about anything to justify their investment and attack anyone who dares disagree. The other half have been putting in 5-10 hours EACH DAY grinding away and feel the need to substantiate such a huge investment of time in their life spent on a cartoon card game with monsters.
Do you realize how niche and fringe you are when it comes to this topic? This is now an IPAD GAME. This game is played by 100,000's of people including moms and kids. I can guarantee the average account has less time played total then many of you in this thread have played in a single day.
For the average person, getting a full uninterrupted hour to play video games every other day is rare. People have lives, and children, and work/school/home responsibilities. I think it would be a simple but very interesting metric to see how many people in this thread actually go to a grocery store instead of having a mom or wife do it for them. My point being that you can not possibly be spilling the time that you are into this game and be considered the typical player.
The average person is going to play this game, make a quick basic deck with the cards available, and then run into a pay2win ragnaros or ysera and immediately lose. No, they arent going to play arena because there is no possible way they will have earned the gold to do so and if they ever do they will lose it all in their first run and never get the chance again.
Just know one thing, those of you pointing to the likes of Trump as your case for f2p deck fairness, you are in the far far fringe minority of this game and are nowhere even close to representative of the average player who is going to run smack into the problems that I listed.
You bring up Leeroy, two E's in that by the way, and how insane Leeroy can be. Have you ever seen what a Knife Juggler can do to Leeroy? Go on youtube and look it up, there are loads of videos of the Knife Juggler knifing him before it can do anything.
Wow. Are you being serious?
Just so I can understand, your viable response to Leeroy using a basic deck is to preemptively have and play a knife juggler before Leeroy(sorry for offending you with the misspelling)?
Do you even realize how stupid you sound posting that?
1.Let's hope you have a knife juggler in your deck.
2.Let's hope you have him drawn in your deck.
3.Let's hope you play him and he doesn't get killed and can just sit on your board waiting.
4.Let's hope he has nothing else on his board to take knife shots.
5.Lets hope 100% of a random attribute hits Leeroy both times and that each knife isn't a 50-50 chance to hit the enemy hero.
CHECK IT OUT ON YOUTUBE THOUGH, IT WORKS.
p.s.- I actually am a unique snowflake, thank you very much.

I was just taking a play out of your playbook there. Trying to come up with a very obscure situation to deal with a card. But you know what do I know, Knife Juggler is only one of the most common cards out there, it's in a ton of decks, and it gets abused a lot. But hey you know everything there is to know about hearthstone right? I mean you won 1000 games, of course I have too but you obviously know so much more about this game than anybody else. Also considering you only created your Hearthpwn account TODAY, your argument holds almost no merit whatsoever. This isn't even an official Hearthstone forum anyway, so why are you ranting here? Afraid you might get banned if you post on the official Blizzard forums? Even so, you're quitting Hearthstone, you're done all together. So what do you care? But, hey you took a few sentences out of the paragraph that I wrote to respond to while ignoring the rest of it, but that's ok. Context doesn't matter that much anyway, and you think I sound stupid.
Hey guys, 1200 wins here, more than half in arena. I made it to rank 2 last season with shaman and haven't paid anything. Why not zoo or UtH? Because I have more fun playing shaman, that is all. I got 8 legendaries out of packs, thanks to arena and a couple of 12 wins. I'm now down to 5 legendaries because of disenchanting/crafting. My tip is to play arena until you're tired of it. Then, disenchant all goldens and crap legendaries, and see what deck you can built. Maybe it'll be a cheap zoo, maybe a less cheap shaman or rogue, or maybe even a big ramp druid or control warrior. ALL those decks can take you to legendary. So if you're not happy with people beating you on ranked because they paid then it's simple. Play arena. If you're bad at arena, you're bad at the game. If you're bad at the game, watch streams. It is that simple..
What's wrong with spending money on this game anyways? The people buying cards are keeping the game going, not the f2p crowd.
What is wrong is that you are buying an advantage. Plain and simple, why else would you spend the money?
Take a game like Dota or League of Legends, if you could buy extra health or extra power people would stop playing because it would become pay2win. Instead they sell fun cosmetic stuff(skins/voicepacks/wards) that people buy to support the game and customize to their taste. Those games are two of the largest and most lucrative games in the world right now proving the model is viable and successful. They also have a LOT more going on then hearthstone in terms of needing to be patched, customer service, balance, and servers. Hearthstone is a card game that could be played on a browser from 2005.
So why not charge $35 for the full game, all the cards, or at least present the option. Then ON TOP OF THAT sell customized features like unique game boards, card backs, hero icons, voice packs, etc.
The reason is the same they instituted a real money auction house into diablo which broke that franchise. They are greedy and prey upon consumers to micro transact themselves to death.
None of these threads or sentiment would exist anymore... every game you would win would be because of YOUR PLAY and YOUR DECK, not from a few special cards you spend $100+ dollars on that your opponent doesnt have.

So what would be the interest of winning games and doing great arena runs if it's no to get more rare cards?

Rank(both constructed and arena) and gold received to spend on the cosmetic items I mentioned(alternate cards/new game boards/voice packs/card backs/hero portraits etc.). Not to mention, oh i don't know, this is a game and is supposed to be fun to just play.

I typically find that people who claim the game is pay to win are typically people trying to play control decks with little understanding of the game.
Physika #1165
its 100 times cheaper than MTG online which is also an amazing card game and yet people pay for that so...whats the problem
100% agree ^^
