Would love to hear other people's opinions on this. For newer players, does the game feel really enjoyable to play whether you win or lose? I remember I used to have a genuinely fun experience in every game, but don't know if that was just from the game still being new to me or if the game quality has significantly gone down.
For the longest time, the legendary grind in particular wasn't bad at all. Just play a fun deck, and hit legend playing casually with 85%+ win rate. But now even running a top deck, the grind to rank 5 feels painful (70% or lower even... at terrible ranks still). Arena has had it even worse. Previously, a skilled player could easily go infinite in arena, playing a mix of every class. But now there are significant balance issues between the classes (To the point where 93% of my opponents at 9+ wins have been Paladins this expansion...)
I'm not even mad about it, I'm just extremely disappointed. The game had SO MUCH potential to be great, but the skill factor just keeps being lowered while RNG gets bumped way up. Is there any hope of the game going back to what it used to be, or is it time to just move on and leave the dying game?
Can't say much about Ranked, but Arena is definitely not in a good condition at the moment. It's as if TGT paid no sort of attention to card rarity and how it affected Arena, making Arena just a draft-a-thon with the person with the most Murloc Knights coming on top.
Blizzard is very slow on reacting and nerfing overpowered shit and this causes me to have not days or weeks, but months long pauses in playing, which is really sad. It's like the last few days before every patch in dota 2, but balance changes in dota come out every 3 or 4 months so the game always feels fresh and new. Blizzard is really slow when it comes to fixing their game.
I have to agree with the OP the current state of the game may be the worst , arena is dominated by paladines. Constructed is infested by all secret Paladines, aggro decks and the only substitute is CW. The game needs a rapid interference from blizzard either by nerfing MC or new anti aggro tools from new expansion. I dream about the day the meta becomes midrangie and has some variance.
Seems fine to me in both ranked and arena. I like it as much as I remember I liked it the last time i was actively playing.
Then again, last season is the first season i really played ranked since beta. And I was more or less on an arena break for a majority of the year as well, so maybe it's just because I'm not burnt out from the game. I also expect to go on a short break on the 10th for StarCraft expansion, so probably just going to do rank 5 this week and sit there instead of bothering for legend (which gave useless stuff in that chest anyways).
I can see how it could get boring if it's the only game you play though.

Are you complaining that your opponents are becoming stronger?
As a returning player, I found the game much better than 1 year ago. Meta was much worse with Miracle Rogues and Hunters of Buzzard+Hound+Wolf or Leeroy+Hound. And now the previously problematic Patron Warrior is fixed as well.
Playing fun decks, making decks and not playing boring meta decks makes the game fun for me. You won't find me playing secret pala etc..
The game isnt fun anymore because playing control decks means you get beat by brainless aggro. Whats the point anymore. Imagine tracer in overwatch had as much health as reinheartd. Aggro decks don't get punished for being so fast, the devs rarely update the game other than expacs etc..
no fresh balance changes and when they do they destroy a card. Mc is broken and were gonna get a post about “ were watching closely” etc. The game is stale and unfun . Many people im share this opinion. They need ro fix the game rather than using new players as an excuse. League has a high learning curve and look at it, its the most popular game in the world. Stop catering to casuals, thats what killed wow. Im just ranting atm for no reason, but its true.

No, you are just burned out. It's OK for you to take a break or simply stop playing. The game isn't automatically dying because you are no longer as interested in it.
85% or 70% are not necessary for hitting Legend - I'm amazed you would even mention these numbers. Most people don't have winrates like that when they are grinding it out. It sounds like the game is only "fun" to you if you can breeze through to Legend every month ... It simply doesn't work like that.
i have to agree too... i thought i would never say this (playing since closed beta) but hs becomes less and less fun. it's just boring at the moment and i don't know what blizzard can do against that... maybe a ingame tournament mode would help. besides some changes/ew cards...
i don't want to think that way but i really don't have fun at the moment and i am playing less and less :(
It's like I read what I was about to post, totally agree with you and I'm in the same situation. The frustration lies in the very limited amount of decks that are run currently. Christmas Tree Pally is just boring to play against, Druid is still really hard to play against if you drop below 15 health, Face Hunter is...what it's always been.
I don't think this points to a lack of creativity on most peoples part, but it really is the "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" meta.
I've been playing since closed beta as well and i haven't played a game in a couple months now. The spam decks that win aren't fun to play and the limit to 30 cards as well as the maddening randomness of the game HS keeps defending has driven me away unfortunately.
You were asking whether new players found hearthstone fun. As a new player, my answer is: It will be when I finish busting my ass laddering to get that Mill Rogue deck I want so badly.
And freeze mage. And totem shaman. And fatigue druid. And Randuin Wrynn.

I would honestly fire the balance team, but yeah. The game is seriously crap especially ranked mode at the moment.

Heartstone is still the same, there's just less in it
IF YOU WANT TO PLAY 20+ turns go play fatigue warrior and stop complaining. Learn to deal with the meta
NA is JRaze and EU is HOFF if you wish to add me.
I realized tonight that this game is actually so unfun that I'm quitting. So, yeah.

Why Rogue is my favourite class:
My submission for this week's card design competition.
I still have plenty of fun!
Like winning a game being down to 1 hp 3 turns in a row vs hunter.
Or making new cool golden cards.
Or opening chillmaw in a pack
Or completing and learning new viable decks like dragon priest and secret paladin
Or teching and changing decks to the meta.
I am a happy customer!
