I started playing hearthstone again about a month ago, and from what I can see priest and warlock seem extremely strong now. I've had multiple 12 wins with both of them this past week, when they were classes I wouldn't even play a year ago (and classes I don't have leveled up yet). My hunter results have been pretty bad, with the furthest I've gone being a 10 win and some runs even down at like 3 wins. My few warrior runs seems to only get like 0-1 weapons. I do terribly with rogue now (previously my best class), and paladin has been a real hit or miss.

As for opponents, priest is by far the class I'd like to avoid most. Nothing feels like a safe play against them, and some of the usual major cards became unplayable against them.

Not sure most of this stuff falls under this last expansion since it's been a long time since I played. I don't use HDT anymore and it's pretty annoying not having it, but since I'm multitasking something else most of the time I play hearthstone now, I can't have overlays floating around on my screen :(

Welcome back. The meta does take some getting use to right now. I'm still struggling playing Priest and against Priest.
Based on win rate data, Priest is the best followed by Warlock and Hunter.  Hunter seems to have been adjusted about a week ago so that they are not running away from the rest of the classes.
I played you as my final boss on a run a couple nights ago. You were mage.  :)

My best win rate now is probably priest, followed by warlock, then mage/paladin. I had like 5 or 6 runs get to 12 wins on priest in this expansion already out of 51 arena runs. But since I'm actually down almost 1k gold from when i came back, clearly some classes (rogue, warrior, shaman) aren't producing results for me. Kind of funny since it's the weapon classes I have at level 60 and previously did well on that are now not working for me.
I think the biggest issue of the vs priest is that playing vs priest late game sucks really bad. So you want to end the match early. You can't use any of the poison stuff effectively vs them in case they shadow madness or potion it. Can't full aggro in-case of that dragon. Then there the dragon potion turn 6, psychic scream turn 7. Then before you know it you're sitting late game and have to worry about MC. I think the thing is their removal isn't positional based like other classes, where you can at least position around stuff.
I hope I played a decently respectful match vs you though, I know some of those games these past weeks were while Christmas shopping, Christmas gift packing, new years house cleaning, end of year clearance shopping, typing lots of stuff, and other things. I hit the rope a ton of times playing, and even accidentally skipped a turn one game, lol.

posted a message on Arena is so crushing i used to be decent but not anymore .

I feel like the pace of arena has slowed down quite a bit from before (before as in like a year ago when I played). I've had like 4-5 games that were determined by out of cards just this week, when running out of cards only happened a few time total in my prior 4k+ arena wins.

I have to say it's kinda fun though. The 3 classes I rarely played a year ago (hunter, lock, priest) are the strong classes now. Time to level them up to 60 :)

Any way you look at it, the game really should have been decided by turn 8 when you have 9 cards in hand. Should be glad it happened on a game that was pretty much lost, instead of one where you had a decent board position and lost a game from esportal.

Played WoW for quite a few years, not too surprisingly I was mostly an Arena/PvP player there just like in hearthstone.

posted a message on Are there only competitive players?

I pretty much only play games to compete, that's pretty much the entire reason I almost strictly play player vs player games as opposed to single player games. That said, I find it very rare to actually log in and play a game and not have fun doing so. I would never go out of my way to make an extra bad deck for the sake of losing games. While have occasionally taken "fun" picks in arena, they are generally within limits to being acceptable choices.

To me fun and competition go hand in hand. If it's not competitive, it's not fun. And if it is competitive, it is naturally fun.

posted a message on I play so bad with Mage, any general tips to increase my Arena score with Mage?

I don't find mage to be a late game class, and don't feel like they benefit more from card draw than other classes. Mage just has more options in that the class can play pretty much any archetype and pull it off vs pretty much any class because mage has lots of high value cards and lots of potential for reach. Even when you run into an archetype that is good against what you have you still have a decent chance to strait out out-value them.

posted a message on You can purchase a new hero for your favorite class in the shop...

TBH they should add more free heroes. I don't know if i'm the only one, but I play some classes more because of the hero. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but the top arena heroes have been female heroes for an extremely long time.

posted a message on Aggro Players

Aggro players don't need to complain. We just move on to the next match.

The reason control players whine on forums is probably the same reason they play control. They have lots of time to burn, and control decks and whining on forums are both good ways to waste more time.

Well, I haven't even been able to pick mage in 9 drafts... So I guess getting a flamstrike is a long way away for me :(

posted a message on Hearthstone is a stress relieving game

I'm kinda surprised how many people find this game stressful. One of the reasons I play stuff like hearthstone these days is because I find it to be a much more relaxing game.

I quit using heartharena because it usually forces me to draft a deck I don't want. It advices you to pick cards for synergies that will almost never happen or pick the highest value card even when it doesn't fit in the deck at all.

I know it can be helpful for new players, but for me I rather trust my gut then a 3rd party website. Deck score isn't everything in arena.

I was infinite before I even head about hearth arena, but once I found out about it I've always used it in my drafts whenever possible. Even when playing on my phone I still prefer doing the draft on my PC. Using hearth arena shouldn't feel like it's forcing your draft. It should be seen as a second opinion and help cover anything you may have missed (generally synergies + curve). Everyone misses things for time to time, especially if drafting fast. Purposely avoiding hearth arena or other draft helpers is kind of like just thinking you're too good to even listen to anyone else's opinion. Following it blindly on the other hand is a different issue, and one that players need to learn to avoid.

posted a message on The Coin; When to use

Really just have to find a time when you can gain tempo or card advantage by using it. Not really a turn specific thing.

That said, I do have a ~10% higher winrate starting first in arena, and a ~25% higher winrate starting first in constructed. So I'm not exactly great at using the coin since my winrate are pretty shitty starting second.

posted a message on Which one?

I would have taken VC without really even considering the other 2. Kinda surprised I'm the only one with that opinion.

Turn 9 is just super slow for a rogue match for me, I don't have many rogue matches even last until turn 9. And there's already a backstab and coldblood that can be combo'ed with VC.

I don't remember having a crappy enough draft yet where I was stuck with 2 burgles.
