so i use casual to test out new decks or weird decks that i wouldnt want to run in ranked because of meta decks being extremely annoying to fight against and hard to beat when testing something new.
but ive ran into zoo 7 times in a row in casual.... i think this is rediculous because theres no reason to run zoo in casual. it has a strong win rate in ranked and casual would be a waste of time. not only that but its really hindering people who want to have fun instead of spam meta decks
could someone tell me why anyone would run a meta deck in casual that would otherwise win in ranked?
I think this question has been brought up many times before. It's probably people that want to finish their daily quest and would rather not do so in ranked.
Letting someone else play (child/friend) or teaching someone how to play
Not wanting to play ranked mode
- The same point could be made about you. If you really want to test your new decks then testing them in a competitive setting is best and you should either be doing the tests in ranked, or not complaining about meeting decks you would eventually play in ranked whilst still benefiting from not tanking your ranking.
if it was in the case i was playing a fun deck that i would never take into ranked, such as randuin, a mill deck, windfury shaman etc. the last thing i want to run into is zoo.
when i get warlock quest i run zoo in ranked and get 4-5 wins in a row -.- i cant imagine casual would be anymore sucessfull
letting someone else play/teaching them would be a rather rare case and i have no way of knowing if thats what happend but i would be fine with that one, same goes for learning
if you dont want to play ranked why would you run a meta deck though, its like some people just like to watch the world burn.
but its not like its 1/10 matches i run into meta its like 1/3 games which means there might as well not even be a casual option
So I just created an account on EU to relive the feeling of constantly opening new cards and modifying your decks. I unlocked the class I wanted to play, opened packs from an arena run and started playing casual. At the beginning the game was matching me up with people who were new, and because of that i won my first ten matches with like 90% win rate. But after that moment I started to get matched up against people with top tier decks. I do not understand how new players are supposed to beat a golden backspace rogue, a control warrior which has superior cards and a miracle rogue, while they played 15 games. There are two problems with that, first "casual" is not casual at all and people who play there, are just scared of ranking play(don't know why). And secondly, players should be matched up based on their wins and amount of cards they got, but not by some random ineffective way.
Casual matchmaking is based on a strict mmr rating. The fact that you repeatedly won your first few games means that your mmr was extremely high, thusly placing you against opponents with similar quality of cards. It is not a "random" way, but it sure is ineffective.
But at the end of the day, it's a casual match. If you lose, no big deal, you don't get punished. No there is nothing to be scared about in ranked play, people usually bring their top decks to casuals just to finish off dailies quicker, or perhaps try out new decks in casual.
Winning and losing in casual means next to nothing. I'll play in casual from time to time and if I see a class/whatever I don't enjoy playing against I'll just concede, it's not worth the negativity.
Some players, when they decide to take on the ladder, they go and practice in casual mode, especially if they are going to stick to one deck. So they can see what they lose to and make adjustments to their deck before losing stars in ranked play, or they are just trying to learn their deck.
It's not that they can't, but the term 'casual' implies that people aren't going to be running 8000 dust decks.
Currently, with the way it works, casual should be replaced with ranked and show your current elo (like legend), and ranked should just be done away with. Because of the matchmaking system in casual, this makes a lot of sense and creates a global elo system. With season resets, it could work like Starcraft where it just places you immediately back up after a few games based on your current mmr. A new casual mode should just have random matchmaking so people can actually test new ideas without worrying about vsing miracle rogue 24/7.
This way, matchmaking discourages the current rank 20 farming, which admittedly ruins the day for new players, and creates a playable casual game mode.
I believe, for some reason in 'casual' people expect easy wins and when they don't get that, because I guess the other player goes in with a similar mindset, then the other player is 'tryhard' or should be playing in ranked so he can farm the noobs. Or at least that's sort of the message that all these kind of posts send out. Casual is no different from ranked, only in that it won't affect your ranking. But it still doesn't mean easy pickings, it will still throw tougher players with serious decks at you.

The good thing about seasons is that Kolento and I have the same chances of getting #1 Legend in a season. I'm not saying skillwise (He's much better). It just doesn't favor people who have been around for so long that their ELO is unreachable.
I think MMR is incorporated into casual to prevent the exact thing you are talking about. If casual was completely random, I think you would run into MORE people with "good" decks. No matter how you arrange it or call it, there will be some people who will never leave casual (for ladder fear or other reasons).
I don't understand, I'm not supposed to try and win just because it is casual mode? I'll admit, I will play an occasional gimmicky deck but when I am doing quests I go for the gold every time.

zoo has relatively the same win rate whether its in casual or ranked, you would be losing value going into casual
Fast quests
Class/minion specific quests
Learning the deck
Ladder anxiety
Letting someone else play (child/friend) or teaching someone how to play
Not wanting to play ranked mode

MMR relies on giving the game a good sample size of your talent*deck. That means you need to play lots of games. That's how statistics works.

you can just insta concede every few games to keep your mmr down without any consequences
60 % of the time I'm winning 100% of the time
Portraits are only for ranked play; more likely people knocking off their dailies as mentioned above. Or maybe trying to farm gold for naxx.

I don't understand all these topics about this sort of thing. Why is casual a place where YOU can do whatever you want but your opponent cannot?

You can't get the gold portraits via casual play.
Poetic.
