I used to play Hearthstone religiously like 3-4 years ago, was a massive ranked ladder grinder, but then just got bored and dropped the game completely. Updated the game and logged in and was bombarded with all the notifications and pop-ups, got a lot of free gold but now I'm wondering where to begin again..
Favorite classes and archetypes were be Priest(any deck, really) and decks like Handlock and ''Wallet'' warrior, lol.
Do you guys have any advice on maybe what packs to buy or good/fun Control decks that are solid now? I have like 18k dust saved up and my entire wild collection is still there, so I can disenchant old stuff, that wouldn't be a problem, gold-wise I have like 5k
PS. the keywords on cards are out of control, all the cards have 3-4 bold effects now lol

Hi, i'm a returning player too, last expansion i've played was Knights of the Frozen Throne and i was "overwhelmed" as well.
If you play only Standard like me, and you don't care at all about Wild, dust all the wild cards you have so you can stock up those.
After that, just farm exp for earn gold and stuff on reward track (you can farm some exp doing mercenaries mode afk, just google that, quite simple and effective)
Other than that, good luck coming back c:
PS: Just hold your dust for now, wait the meta to settle a bit before investing
It's too early in the expansion to say which control decks will be viable, but I can list a few that have potential. Keep in mind that balance patches will probably be frequent these next few weeks, don't craft a bunch of legendaries too soon.
Control Priest is what I've used to get legend. It is an attrition deck that adapts its gameplan by making multiple copies of key minions in the deck. The version on hsreplay is pretty bad, here is my current list: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1431751-control-priest
Control Warrior gains tons of armor and eventually converts that armor into attack to go on the offensive. Like Rainbow Mage it can potentially OTK. As a bonus it is very cheap to craft at about 4k dust for the basic version. https://hsreplay.net/decks/uQUJ4oXP6Ao5K9xUs4D64c/#gameType=RANKED_STANDARD
My advice is don't bother. The Devs clearly have no idea what makes a fun game (from my point of view of course) and have demonstrated zero ability to balance the game. They continue to print early game cards which snowball to a win on turn 4 or 5, cards which are binary "I play I win, if not i lose" and now they've even enabled an OTK deck which can kick off at turn 5/6. It's great fun!
It's sad - for a very short time after a new expac launches I think the game is realy quite good fun. You get to try new cards/combinations and sometimes even play against non-net decks! After a couple of days (possibly hours) all the decks become fairly refined and the only decks you see are the copy past decks which (to me) sucks all the fun out the game. I think this is true at all ranks (perhaps with the excpetion of low legend where people to see to try and have fun as well).
If you like playing solitaire, rock-paper-scissor and/or flipping coins, then the new Hearthstone might be for you!

Pick best performing class from hsreplay or metastats.
Than dischant cards you don't use anymore and net-deck the list.
Creativity is dead and the only fun you would get is to make something fun and loose billion times.
GGs.

Thaddius Warlock is a deck similar to handlock that does nothing for the first few turns, then starts rapidly cheating out massive minions onto the board. https://hsreplay.net/decks/l90AMLz0Dy3iDkrcZX2Ngd/#gameType=RANKED_STANDARD
Control Warlock relies on cards like Lord Jaraxxus and Sargeras, the Destroyer to out-tempo opponents in the late-game. https://hsreplay.net/decks/l90AMLz0Dy3iDkrcZX2Ngd/#gameType=RANKED_STANDARD
Hound Hunter is maybe not a control deck, but as a mainly control player myself I find it enjoyable. It's a midrange deck that plays progressively bigger and bigger threats, and can play both offensively and defensively. https://hsreplay.net/decks/cMkYih8EWk1USLYqNBiIqf/#gameType=RANKED_STANDARD
Rainbow Mage plays lots of randomly generated cards with the potential for an OTK through Sif, though it can win without it as well. https://hsreplay.net/decks/Rjd7dTt4X81ZtVhRbcDSIh/#gameType=RANKED_STANDARD
Control Warrior gains tons of armor and eventually converts that armor into attack to go on the offensive. Like Rainbow Mage it can potentially OTK. Blood DK is a flexible control deck that can win through tempo, value, or through The Jailer. It can also gain over 50 maximum life and like Warrior beat OTKs that way. https://hsreplay.net/decks/5JvNvhN3Qsj5ogpLnsasOg/#gameType=RANKED_STANDARD
Take this advice if you want to burn out and stop playing again.
Leave when you can. The whole game nowadays is designed around addiction and spending tactics. 0 creativity
Any advice?
Don't... you got away. You escaped Blizz-Saron's prison of madness... don't let it take you again.
quite possibly the worst meta to get back into the game, everything viable is super expensive dust-wise, especially the control decks.
Minion priest is real strong right now, so is mech rogue. If you enjoy priest then stick with what you like playing.
