My opponent plays Hysteria on my 6/5 Crossroad Gossiper who directly attacks the 4/3 one. It leaves it as a 6/1 which then kills itself upon my 1/1 clearing the board.
My concern is the following: Shouldn't Avenge be triggered as soon as the 4/3 dies? This would have put my remaining Crossroad Gossiper as a 7/3 or 10/5 and my recruit either as a 4/3 or 1/1. Giving me an opportunity to finish my opponent next turn.
Avenge text is: When one of your minion dies, give a random friendly +3/+2. It is not the AFTER keyword.
How is it possible that hysteria bypasses my secret?
I welcome any answer following this interaction and would like to know if it is working as intended or a little bug that should be patched.
Well, my bet would be that for whatever reason, Hysteria is coded to keep dead enemies on the board, which also stops Deathrattles from working mid-attack chain...
So, it's not really that the minion died before the other, but rather than they ALL die at the end of the effect, which, yes, I do believe is extremely counter-intuitive and leads to many consistency problems, but that's just how it goes...
It's a rather common rule of hs, that whenever a spell deals multiple instances of damage, all the deaths are resolved once the spell finishes casting. It works the same way with magic missiles for exemple

Have a nice day everyone!
Because this is Hearthstone, not Yugioh. Card effects do not stop in the middle to trigger other effects.
By your logic, if any sort of multi hit spell (Avenging Wrath, Mask of Cthun, Arcane Missiles etc) kills a minion then it should also trigger Avenge. Even Combustion should. But it doesn't, because deaths do not occur until an effect completes.
Certain interactions have these types of resolutions, and it doesn't always appear to make sense, but since it's a spell, that's how it will go.
And never mind the fact that if a 3 attack minion bumps into the 4/3 gossiper while Reckoning is active... your gossiper will survive and the opposing minion will be destroyed.

Defile does not work like that. but I guess its different it says cast this again?

Casting again is a different instance of the spell, effectively - when it's cast again it's a new spell, if that makes sense. It's easier to understand in MTG, where you have a fully transparent stack that (almost) everything uses. You cast defile, HS's equivalent of SBAs check to see if anything's dead, then stuff on the stack resolves. Very similar in the hysteria scenario too, in that SBAs in MTG don't get checked mid-resolution of a spell.

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well.
So let me explain the situation to you.
On my board there is:
1/1 Recruit ; 6/5 Crossroad Gossiper ; 4/3 Crossroad Gossiper
My opponent plays Hysteria on my 6/5 Crossroad Gossiper who directly attacks the 4/3 one. It leaves it as a 6/1 which then kills itself upon my 1/1 clearing the board.
My concern is the following: Shouldn't Avenge be triggered as soon as the 4/3 dies?

That settles it, I guess...

If it did, then Avenge would be OP as fuck.
Sometimes a secret resolves in between other spell's trigger but generally secrets triggers after the spell resolves.
That's a fun interaction.
When a minion dies an animation plays of them exploding into pieces.
Defile does not work like that. but I guess its different it says cast this again?
