So I purchased the 85 card pre-launch thingy and just opened them all. Out of 85 packs I go 3 legendaries...which seems extraordinarily low. In previous pack openings, I've generally received about 6-9 legendaries. Did they change things up?
No. Of course not. You got one in your first ten packs, then - assuming it was in your tenth pack - you got one per 37.5 packs, which is really bad and close to the pity timer (40). Sorry for you loss.
From what I understand, it's always been 1 legendary per 20 packs on average (5% chance for a single pack) with a cap at 40 packs. So 3 out of 85 is abd luck but not absurdly bad. Sounds like you've been lucky in the past.
Yes, it seems more like you got quite / really lucky in the past, as was said before it's generally accepted to have a legendary every like 20 packs, so 4 legendaries for the 80 packs would be an average / normal result. Anything above would be, well... Above average! I can't wait to open my own 3 legendaries I don't want later tonight poggers
I mean you just have bad luck. The average is supposedly a legendary every 20 packs but the only thing that's guaranteed is the 40 packs pity timer so yeah, you got terrible luck but it's still within the normal.

He gets 3 legendaries in 85 packs and calls it "extraordinarily low". You are expected on AVERAGE 1:20, it does not mean you're guaranteed one every 20 packs.
That's why they've added "free" legendaries to the pre-orders because they know the yield is pretty shit for a digital card game.
*this ofc rules out the first within 10 packs, as the math would be slightly harder.
You were absurdly lucky previous expansions. I usually got 2-4 legendaries out of my 40-60 packs I open day 1.
His ratio with 3 legendaries from 85 packs is 1:28. His previous avg yield is 7.5 (6 to 9), assuming also 85 packs is 1:11. Considering the average is 1:20, he was about +/- as lucky then, as he was unlucky now.
Most alchoholics would accept the fault lies with their lack of restraint, I'm sure you'd find some that would advocate the banning of alchohol..but very few. If you're spending too much much on hearthstone and you know it just stop...set yourself a limit this expansion and stick to it. You know what you are doing going into the store after you've just opened like a hundred packs or whatever...don't do it. It's little flashing lights on a screen, we aren't talking about crack here.
in the last expansion I opened 115 packs and got 3 legendary ones, I stayed 63 packs without taking a legendary one (yes I know there is a 40 pack for the legendary one), I made numerous complaints for blizzard and she told me it was normal, I did several posts here and on reddit about what to do, i contacted blizzard again and nothing happened, i know what you are feeling and there is nothing to do but regret, this is what we got for paying an absurd price on something and receive the minimum in return.

Ah ok. Thanks for the input!

I had the 60 pack and pulled 4 so I guess I was lucky. Unfortunately, not a single one I actually wanted.

I like it personally, enjoyed opening packs since I was a kid with things like football stickers, Pokemon cards etc.
People need hand holding through absolutely everything these days though, soon well be voting against fun all together, can't wait.
I think there's a post like this every expansion cycle. No, you just have crap luck

Seems to be like me I sometimes get legendary from class u don’t even play and you get the sadges.
No, there are people who can handle alcohol, and there are alcoholics. Good for you if it’s fun to you, but I’m an addict, $8k deep in this shit.

Nobody tells you to buy packs. Own choice...
