just came back after almost 2 year break, the rewards system is completely different than when i last played. outside of quests that require ranked wins, should i try and play arena as much as possible still?
and what is the best way to gain levels for the new rewards? aggro decks only seem to get like 20 exp in a win, but can play more games, while slower decks seem to get 70-100 exp. is midrange they key? i assume it has something to do with cards played and minions killed, but if thats not correct than some enlightenment would be fantastic. ive only been able to get to level 20 and the rewards are pretty bad. i see that higher levels get more gold/packs, but that doesnt really seem to favor newer players at all.
If you spend enough time on the game, the reward track isn't really a problem. Despite playing on two accounts, I'm way above level 100 on both, without the battle pass. Some players even seem to reach the 350 mark.
The quests alone grant you 13k xp a week, if you reroll all 900 xp quests to 1000 xp ones. The achievements are more like a little bonus, some of them you can do fast, but most are either grinding or you need specific cards. I haven't really monitored the xp from playing, but I don't think it will make much of a difference what deck you play. If you play aggro, you might get less xp, but your games are faster. In the long run probably the amount of xp per time will be pretty much the same as control or midrange. But I'm no expert on this.
Battlegrounds seem a good way of farming xp though. You can even afk there and still get some.
Do as Entropy7 says and use your time in more productive tasks.
i dont have too many of those right now haha, waiting on total war warhammer 3 and witcher 4. and i just found out my laptop flips into a tablet which is perfect for playing hearthstone since i have to be in bed by 10 for my wife but dont usually go to sleep until 12-2am.
tbh i used to kind of hate the game because i wanted to play my homemade decks to as high a rank as possible and would rage at the netdeckers. now i just joined them and played secret mage to easy wild legend and i can play anything there for fun that I want. i just have basically no new cards and limited dust because i crafted a bunch of golden legendaries before i quit lol. gotta try and build up some new cards so i can play more than a few decks.
also does the rewards track thing reset every month or every expansion?

ok cool, so most of exp will be through quest rewards, as post game exp adds up slowly, but still adds up with a level every couple of days.
battlegrounds might be a little too intense for me. I played a lot of the original Dota Auto Chess, but this one looks way more crazy, though i have only watched a few minutes of it in the late game so maybe its a just that i didnt see the beginning to know what was going on.

Yup, that's basically it.

Every expansion. So you've got plenty of time for the next one.
Also, another tip: Try to keep around 2000 gold around the middle of each expansion. They're releasing a mini set every expansion that you can buy for 2000 gold (at least that was the prize the last time) in complete. For players who don't want to invest tons of money in the game, I think that's the best prize you'll get.
Or, you can play Legends of Runeterra, where in 2 months plus 1 week(started 1/15/21) of F2P, plus Twitch rewards, I have > 70% of all the cards and can craft 10+ meta decks right now.
With appropriate wild cards I can craft >250 commons >145 Rares >50 Epics
And with shards and Wild Cards, I can craft > 40 Champs.
I would advise anyone to quit, or stop, or never try, or never come back.
Now if you really, really wanna build that collection, $8k should get you there.
why are there so many people wasting their time on this site if they all recommend just quitting.
and i dont need a full collection, every expansion has about 60-80 cards and 5-7 legendaries that are pretty must haves, thats pretty achievable as f2p. I have about 90% of the cards pre-Shadows expansion so most of my collection is complete.

i look into it, but im mostly happy with hearthstone since i already have the majority of the cards.

yeah, i saw that. it looks like i have a few of those cards already from Darkmoon, so I assume the miniset just gives you a good boost of core cards without having to hopefully get them in packs? gonna save up as much as i can for next expansion i guess and hopefully open around 40 packs in the first couple weeks then save for the miniset

The most efficient mods to win gold and cheap packs are still arena (and Duels, same reward system), if you average 4-6+ wins by run. A little time consumming, but hey.. can't get everything. Otherwise you use this time to get real money and buy packs lol.
Arena should be more fair if u miss many cards. Otherwise with a good collection, Duel mod can be fun and rewarding.

My standard collection is a little lacking so arena is probably best. I kinda despise arena because it's impossible to play around what your opponent may have, but I got 2 free passes so might as well get back into it. Is overwolf still the best tool for arena card value?
Main points: Hang tight for a few days. Don't buy any packs or arena runs, and finish one if you have one active. Do quests (and gameplay achievements if you can). Afterwards, Arena and Duels modes have the same cost and rewards, and are profitable if you're good, same as before.
The best way to build your collection would be to hang tight for a few days. You'll be given the entire Core set for free
The rewards system is great for newer players (because of all the free stuff), or everyone who starts playing sooner than 1 week before the track is reset, so don't worry. You'll be fine starting in a few days.
To my knowledge, XP gain is based on the time spent in a game. (I measured it for several games and it was 10xp per minute).
Apart from daily/weekly quests (the way to get xp, giving gold), one section of achievements, Gameplay, also grants xp for doing certain combos using cards from the latest expansion (which will reset in a few days)
I recommend not starting any Arena run for a few days, and finishing one if you have it, because this will reset as well and you'll be given the rewards for your current wins even if you have no losses. But once it resets, if you're good enough at arena to consistently get 4+ wins (not just 7+), you'll be good because it grants you a FIB pack as well as enough gold to make it more efficient than directly buying the pack.
The xp gain is based on time and you get xp from pretty much every mode.
Single player modes grant around 120 xp/hour (which sucks). You can farm Battlegrounds by just afking and get roughly 225 xp/hour if you lose every game. You just need to make sure that your games (in any mode) don't take longer than 30 minutes because that is the maximum time you get xp per game. Start a new Battlegrounds game every 25-30 minutes (if you don't die beforehand) and stay afk and do something else.
Aside from that, I would play ranked right now because the new set comes in a week, so you don't want to spend too much time in Arena/Duels right now because these modes reward Darkmoon packs and Forged in the Barrens packs are much better because newer. So safe your gold. Also, ranked gives the most xp on average and you really want to get as many levels from this rewards track as possible before the new one comes. Free value!
You should try to get at least a couple of the easier Gameplay/Darkmoon achievements done (if you haven't already) because they grant extra xp, but only until the next set launches. The xp granting achievements have a little treasure in the rewards track screen. Duels also has some of these achievements, so maybe you can try to get these too before the next update. But don't waste too much gold for something like that because the reward is too low.
I don't know if Blizzard still gives free tavern tickets if you happen to have an arena and duels run when these modes update, but if they do, you could play both modes until you have 2 losses to get a tavern ticket + your rewards from your active run.

Ceterum censeo classum magi esse delendam.
Just disenchant all cards and uninstall the game, trust me.
Do as Entropy7 says and use your time in more productive tasks.
nevermind, you got it right. :D
I agree with entropy7.

Take a walk on the wild side...
So as I can I see I am not the only one who regrets spending time and money in this game. "Run away fool, now that you can!"
