Despite being a game with no in-game chat, Hearthstone still manages to be remarkably toxic, because we as a species are doomed to fail.
For reasons outside of logical thinking, Blizzard could have at least somewhat salvaged the issue by simply giving an option in the settings to disable enemy emotes. It's quite tiring if you're playing Hearthstone a lot and have to do those two extra mouse clicks at the start of every single match.
I know that at this point it would be like trying to mend a shotgun wound with a band-aid, but they could at least throw us normal people a bone here.
It takes a click to do this at the start of a game. Yes, a global option would be great, but...
I mean, come on man.
I would much rather see an enhancement that tells your opponent that you've muted them, like putting little earmuffs on your hero portrait or something.

It's two clicks, and sometimes I forget to do it and my day is ruined. I guess that's my bad, though. Let me put it into perspective; I have +11k ranked wins on my account, and presumably around the same amount of losses. That amounts to around ~22k matches. 2 extra clicks per match means something around 44 thousand extra clicks I've had to do in order to avoid additional medical bills.

Imagine having your day ruined by a pic sending you a voiceline and a speech bubble. Please, seek help.
You're mistaken if you think you're one of the "normal people" while asking for default squelch and comparing your hurt feelings to a "shotgun wound".
Hurt feelings? Who's projecting that? That's like saying if I'm annoyed by someone spamming messages to me or constant junk email for example, it means my "feelings are hurt" by it. The emote system in the game is used only for trolling, BMing and spamming 99%, of the time.

Except that you've literally said, and I quote, ''It's two clicks, and sometimes I forget to do it and my day is ruined. ''
Some people say hello at the start of every game. You auto-squelchers are the trolls. Greet people back. Not just sit there in silence. I find that more annoying than any emote in the game.
Your day is ruined by Garrosh Hellscream saying greetings a few times before you are able to squelch him?
You feel how you feel, but that is not a proportional reaction, friendtendo.
More so the lethal top decks, saves and minimum percentage highrolls in general. The reason is that it further perpetuates the illusion in the minds of these people that they're doing something right, and they can continue pretending and convincing themselves that they can pilot their netdeck better than a monkey strapped to a gaming chair matching their mana crystals with the card costs and guiding minions to face.

And you literally interpret that as "hurt feelings". If I step in dogs*it while walking outside, it doesn't mean it hurts my feelings even if it ruins my day.

Nah, that's what the Sh*tlist is for. You write the names of the players down to your notepad who rope and troll you on purpose when they win, and the next time you meet them, you wait every single turn until the last second of the rope on your own turn and spam emote as fast as the physics of the game allow.

So, your problem isn't actually toxicity, because you just spewed a load of it. You just don't like losing to aggro decks. Coolio, boring conversation anyway.

You really connected the dots there, sir. I'm not sure what caliber of mental gymnastics you had go through to arrive to said conclusion, but sure.

Blizzard wil never autosquelch as it is a marketing mechanic devised to please the target audience: the mindless aggressive face is the place/otk types who see it as part of the 'fun' exp. to emote and BM. Repulsive. reprehensble, abhorrant. Morally corrupt, ethical invalids for whom the right thing is to create toxicity as a marketing strategy.

Yes, because that is a completely normal reaction.
Uninstall and get help. You clearly have deeper problems.
So am I the only one who greets my opponent out of pure friendliness?
idk when you started playing but it used to be much worse. People used to go out of their way to send you a friend request just to shit talk. Also, there used to be a sorry emote, and heroes saying sorry actually sounded sarcastic so for example - A mage would flame strike my board and then say "I'm sorry"

Is there a lazier statement than "have to do those two extra mouse clicks at the start of every single match." When I read something like that I always imagine some veteran of war, carpenter, or a marathon runner reading something like that and just shaking their head.
Should they implement a permanent mute option? I guess? It wouldn't hurt anything. But cmon man, don't act like it takes even a microscopal amount of effort to click your mouse twice.

I can take a hello and a well played.
I agree, it used to be worse with the 'sorry' emote. They removed it for this very reason, but that was years ago. I have been playing since before Naxxramas. It's inexcusable not to include the option to squelch emotes by default, given that it should be such a simple fix. People can emote all they want, but at least give the option for those who don't want any part of it.

AutoSquelch is your friend, super handy if you use decktracker.
