I could have sworn the guy presenting GvG at blizzcon said it would be out exactly 1 month from today on November the 11th. I am going to rewatch the presentation and see if he said it, that would make GvG's release date Dec 11th.
Rather than buying enough servers to manage release crunch, they may be aiming for a "soft-launch." It suddenly shows up midnight PST dec 3rd, then is officially announced around 8 AM PST that day when most people are at work. That should stagger when people get to first log in.
personally i think this is wishful thinking. they profit the most from hype - in a situation of hype and excitement people are most likely to spend money. at least i think so.

I thought they profited the most from profits, which is why they would want to get this release out fairly quickly after thanksgiving in order to maximize Holiday spending.

dont get me wrong. i still think if its not tomorrow or wednesday, it will be next week at the latest. i believe GvG deserves a (nearly) complete season at launch.
Yes. Get some sleep, because they'll dump it tomorrow, same time they upload the data to the servers with the 8 hour maintenance day. So people won't datamine the cards and find them out secondhand.
And they still have a full day to release it, on the 3rd of Dec. Yay.
Classic Blizzard. Announces something and then doesn't announce the real release date, so people will go batshit crazy and after that finally releases it on the last possible date.
Everybody's angry, everybody will buy it.
They actually do lose both money and goodwill with the delays and teases and vague release dates, though. It's very strange to say in early November, "Hey guys the next expansion is coming out sometime in December!" Y'know, just, sometime. And then when December hits, refuse to elaborate on any concrete release date. It's extraordinarily poor marketing and coordination, and quite frankly unprofessional.
Of course the fans will buy it, but I don't see anyone going batshit insane or getting angry. I see a lot of legitimate and entirely warranted confusion, and not much else.
I'd legitimately be curious as to what the reasons are (intentional or incidental) for Blizzard/the Hearthstone team marketing their product so ineffectually.

We'll give you a heads-up tomorrow, and you'll know ahead of time. By one day.
Last night I would have whole-heartedly agreed with you. The evidence indicating an imminent launch was compelling. Today's tweets by Zeriyah now cause me to seriously doubt my conclusion.
I've been hoarding gold and haven't opened a pack since sometime in early September. I NEED my pack opening fix. I REALLY hope you're right, I just don't think you are. Wishing and hoping with all your heart doesn't change reality. However, I assure you, if you do turn out to be right I'll be here to give you props for the good call.
However, given the possibility of them patching it in tonight's maintenance, I would not be at all surprised to see a card dump tomorrow to preempt dataminers along with an official announcement of the release date.
On the other hand they know that the more they will wait to release the new set, the more people will have time to get Gold to buy packs instead of paying with cash...
In the end that's loosing more money with every passing day.

I agree. I'm one of those people that has bugger all gold and dust and will be spending stupid amounts of money to get the cards...
The more time they leave it, the more gold i am slowly getting my grubby little hands on before the release.
I'm a very casual player in terms of playing period. I play generally 10 games a day that's all and right now i have about 9K gold saved up and almost 7K Dust. If they release it further down the month i'm pretty sure i can get all i need from the set for free.

This guy. This guy right here.
They might think (for some inexplicable reason) that hyping the release up with all the mystery and confusion is going to...I don't know, make people more excited? Honestly, it's just frustrating. I haven't really been wanting to play HS outside of completing my quests for gold these days, as the meta is so goddamned stale.
But here's how it'll go:
Blizzard will keep hinting at a release date, they'll patch in the cards tomorrow, dump the rest of the set, and then announce a release date sometime within the next two weeks, and promptly upon release day, players will be greeted with extremely long Battle.net queue times, server crashes, bugs, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if some people even lost money and/or cards that they bought, a la some Naxx bullshit.
I don't understand gaming companies anymore. Well, I do, and that's the problem. It's extremely disheartening that developers are content to put out half- (or even 1/4) finished products that are bug-ridden and unsupported. Even more disheartening is the fact that we as consumers continue to purchase these pieces of garbage outright. Hell, we even pay in advance to have the frustration early!
Sorry for the tangent, but it's seriously depressing looking at the state of gaming today. God forbid you want a complete game when it's new, you're easily looking at $120 on a console, less for PC. It's better to legitimately wait for at least a year until the "Game of the Year Edition" comes out.
I think the odds are good that both a card dump and a release date will be announced this week. This is definitely when they should announce it if they plan on it coming out later in the month.
They will not release it this week. The blog post confirms that and I doubt they can handle two major releases (wow raid + this) at once. I think it will come next week or if they have major problems with the raid release they could postpone it for another week.

@CM_Zeriyah Zeriyah, please tell me the truth. Is goblins vs gnomes coming out after mainteinance? hype kills me and I have exams, please..
@ReyMuklo We'll give more of a heads up than that - you'll know ahead of time. Good luck with exams!
Looking more and more like the reveal will be this Thursday for the release date. Giving 5 days notice for Dec 9th release.
Yeah looks like it's not going to happen anytime soon for the release...
Well one more week on the ladder with the current decks i guess!

Still no contradiction to Dec. 3.

I do want to believe you are right, but it's quite unlikely by now.
Tuesday could be prep maintenance, next Tuesday is most likely the real deal.
On a quest to capture every zone in Azeroth into Hearthstone cards! Elwynn Forest, Redridge Mountains, Stranglethorn Vale and Northern Barrens!
Well no s*** they aren't going to announce it after! What kind of tweet is that???
So they are going to announce a release date BEFORE the game's released?? Not after?! Wow.
Don't forget that this was tweeted earlier:
Quote from Zeriyah
We'll make an announcement of the release date ahead of time.
Considering i think they only gave us 5 days notice for Naxx, chances are we're looking for maybe a mid month release?

That's not what i want from their player base!
