posted a message on them legendaries..

Just played against someone with Ysera, Sylvanas and Toshley in his deck. He also played 3 Healbots, plenty of Chuggas and other top tier cards.

In arena, it already takes alot of effort to neutralize cards such as ysera and sylvanas - so i was  very proud when I was able to challenge him as much as I could. I even threatened lethal the next turn before he wacked out his chorus of healbots.

    what scum ;-)

It's kind of a normal thing i guess. I play a Tempo mage and the same thing happened to me these days somehow, but i wasn't at rank 1 i was at 5. It was the first time i tried to reach legendary this season, went on a good streak over the weekend ( roughly 70% win rate ) against mostly hunters and mages which was wow, and then one day ( i believe it was Tuesday) i dropped 4 ranks with the same deck.

I guess it's something like this: Meta changes pretty fast these days, so when a few decks are on the rise ( like your midrange hunter or my tempo mage are right now) people are trying to find ways to counter it.  For that reason only i tried to pay attention to what exactly changed to their playstyle and i found some things that weren't happening just a few days ago. Things like: i saw a few hunters without secrets ( because kezan mystic is pretty popular) they weren't that effective but it was a try, i saw a few other hunters and mechmages hitting more of my minions than into my face like it usually happened before to try and gain a bit of board control.

My advice to you would be something like this: If you loose 2 consecutive games try to take a break, it usually helps in more ways than 1. Firstly your brain takes a break and you're less prone to make mistakes, also i found that the decks you're facing change every hour. I sometimes see only mages and hunters, log off watch a TV show, come back and i start playing against priests and paladins and not a single mage or hunter for like 7 8 games. Also this is still a RNG based game, and all its components have a RNG effect especially in matchmaking. ( I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one thinking: omg i have the perfect arena deck i will go at least 8 wins, and then you just get matched up with exactly what counters your deck ). You can also try to make small changes to your deck depending on what you faced mostly lately. For example if you see a few more priest decks than usual try to squeeze in a Snipe instead of a Snake trap see how it goes or dunno a hunters mark if you see handlocks ( sry if my examples are bad i'm not a good hunter player, but you get the point ).

I hope this helps. Good luck in your quest to reach legendary :)

Thanks you very much! This is some great advice!

You pretty much explained my situation very well by giving me your example; doing extremely well for a couple of days (thinking i hve found THE niche-deck which is good aganst most other classes and will easily go to legendary), followed by 2-3 days of under - to - poor performance.

I guess its time to take a mini break and sort of analyse the meta on my particular rank. i will also try to forget about the stubborn goal of having to reach legendary this season. i am pretty happy with rank 4 atm, although rank 1 or legendary would have been nice aswell. i guess i can be happy with my performance this season, i have definately improved alot and maybe it will work out with legendary next season :)

thanks again for you adivce, all the best to you too!

thank you very much for your reply 678u3!

dont get me wrong - my post is not meant to be me wining about everything (although i guess it came across as such).

i find myself in this situation for the first time (at this level) so i am literally clueless as what to do now.

switching deck is an option, but i feel it is only for hunter my skills suffice to actually make it to legendary

    Hey Guys,

I've just dropped from Rank 1 (first time chance to legendary) to Rank 4, and I'm very pissed!

Is the matchmaking some kind of bad joke?

Up to Rank 1,  I successfully played a Midrange Hunter, however instead of playing Freezing Traps and Abusive (Like SenX Hunter), I played Snakes and TDK. I was extemely successful up to Rank 1, literally flying on a winstreak the last 3 Ranks.

two days ago, everything changed. Suddenly, the moment I log on with my Midrange Hunter, I get my worst matchups: face hunter and druid. No chance of winning..

If I change my Hunter to Face Hunter, I get their worst match ups. Played Paladin for a while, see there, i suddenly see Priests, Paladins and Shamans..

So I ask again, what is up with this matchmaking? I find it hugely annoying and deliberatly trying to make you loose.

posted a message on Am I the only one who play Casual and it's fine with that?

i used to be very conservative when testing new decks at around rank 5 upwards. therefore i always switched to casual when having made the smallest changes to my deck in order to get familiar with the new deck. (of course, depending on the severity of the change, i'd continue on ladder)

sadly, the meta on constructed is usually different on cosntructed compared to casual, so you never know quite how well your deck is going to do until you have played in constructed for a while.

recently, i have made many changes to my decks and simply continued playing on constructed. i find that atm i am more concerned with getting my second golden hero. so i play constructed no matter how well i do.

for quests, i play mostly constructed, unless its a class i feel really unhappy playing with.

I am climbing the ladder and currently at rank 11 with a Secrets Mage deck that runs Ethereal Arcanist, Illuminator and Spellbender. Check my deck out if you have a moment. =) I wrote a detailed guide for the deck list and I tried to justify each and every card choice as well as I could. I want my deck to make it to Legend and I will do my best to get it there this season. Nobody uses Ethereal Arcanist, Illuminator or Spellbender and yet I still put up a good fight against most meta decks. Oh what's that Malfurion? Your Shade of Naxxramas is at 5/5? My Ethereal Arcanist is at 9/9! Pity you don't have BGH in your hand yet.... =D

As for advice on how to get to Legend... If your deck does not have literally every card it needs to function, including all of the legendaries (Dr. Boom says hi) then you will have a rough time getting to Legend.

looks interesting. how are yu doing against faster decks, i.e mechmage, hunters or zoo?

(tbh neither of those listed, with the excpetion of zoo which i rarely encounter in the higher ranks atm, are very fast aggro decks)

i love how blingtron 3000 actually made an appearance in the current meta (in mech mage).

i dont think it was simply gimmick, he really did fit into the mechanics of a mech mage.

Do not be surprised by this. It's only natural that you keep hitting a brick wall at that point. Achieving legend is hard because Rank 20-5 is virtually a warm-up. No offense to anyone, but it's considered a play pin by good players and is pretty much meaningless. It's a misconception that getting from 5 to legend is just the last little thing you have to do, in reality climbing the ladder only just gets started at Rank 5. Besides the fact that win streaks stop, the players are just better and every deck is going to be complete with all the legendary and epic cards needed for whatever it is they are playing. It's not supposed to be easy from that point onward and it isn't easy for the average player.

To get legendary, you have to step up your game to the next level. Make zero mistakes, find the deck that counters the decks you play against the most at that rank and plan several turns ahead. You can't just play a typical game and expect to win more than 50% of your matches, you have to play a superb game.

btw, any of the popular Mech Mage decks is viable for getting legendary. There is not a really hard counter to Mech Mage anyway. You mentioned control decks, as if they are the counter to Mech Mage? That's a fallacy, Mech Mage is actually strongest against control decks and weakest against aggro and mid-range decks but really it isn't weak to anything.

Considering players above level 5 good as though those below are not is a fallacy in itself.   If I remember correctly blizzard stated that only 15% of players make it to level 5 and above; so what do you consider the other 85%, Crap???

definately not! i find that rank 8 - rank 3 has players who have roughly the same skills

edit: to be honest i never got higher than rank 3, but i never noticed a big difference in player skills among those ranks
