Here I am for only my 4th expansion season...I'm sure most of you reading this have been playing for much longer.
We've had a week of drip, drip card reveals followed by a full on final card reveal tonight before the new expansion launches in 6 days.
Brim full of excitement, I ate dinner after the card reveal live stream, and logged back in to play the newly launched tavern brawl. What would it be? Which Loa would we get to play? Which spirits would we play against? Would they make us choose a class and lock us into it for the Tavern Brawl with one predesigned deck, or would we choose 3 cards from the new expansion and build a deck around it? I was genuinely excited to try just a small part of next week's new game design! It seemed so obvious. Tonight would be our small taster of what's to come.
What did we get? A co-operative brawl, with none of the new cards to tease us into pre-purchasing, and absolutely nothing to do with Rastakhan's brawl whatsoever. Just something picked out of thin air with zero re-playability either.
Anyone with a GCSE grade C in Marketing would have recognised a problem and come up with a solution, "Hey, you know all those players who didn't pre-order yet? Or the ones who ordered only one of the bundles? Let's give them a teaser of how the game will be played from next week onwards in the Tavern Brawl, so they get really excited about these new cards going into their decks and actually buy some stuff before Tuesday!"
What on earth, or where on earth, are Hearthstone's marketing department? Were they shuffled into a deck somewhere with The Darkness's candles?
I'm so shocked they are so lapse...especially in the current climate with 'other' games launching soon (one I won't mention because I'm sick of seeing it's name thrown about here by paid trolls who should frankly bugger off to a forum dedicated to that particular game if they'll love it so much). For a multi-million turnover company though, I think Blizzard should hire some better team leaders to guide the game designers how best to market what they've designed.
Tonight was a HUGE missed opportunity in my opinion. Has it always been this way around new expansion releases?
Nice stunning question for Blizzard. I hope they got a proper Feedback. You just poked them in the eye about their acute mistakes. However, Man, Blizzard is running starting from 1998 and almost completed 2018. It's not only a Gaming Company bt a Multi-National Business Company. And where do do you think they get their Fundings from? From these Over-rated or Under-rated Expansions (whatever you say) they Market it at different places and it's obviously their people who released these Custom Card Generating Web Tools to broaden their Hiring Options, and i really Admire their Idea!
I kinda laughed at the Darkness Candle part, quite funny. :D
And i agree to your last question: Has it always been this way around new expansion releases? I also have the same Question. Well, this Expansion is a bit sophisticated. And i can tell that Blizzard will soon run out of ideas and shut down Hearthstone within 2 years,, if they can't accept Custom Card Designers like many of us! Sorry Blizzard! I think i added pepper instead of salt LOL. xD

Help me with my HS Custom Card Pack Expansion Knights of the Tainted Seas. Because you are Awesome.
GCSE - General Certificate of School / Secondary Education? I guess yes. My cousin passed that. I passed O' Levels long time ago then HSC. And guess what HSC is? You don't know,, So what? Google Search! Brilliant Idea! xD
Nope. It's a question about whether the marketing has always been this lapse, or just recently?
I'm excited for next week, but I'm wondering if every dept. in Blizzard is as much as we are?
What did they do in the past before expansion releases? Surely not the same?
Sry then. Well i am not sure myself but Blizzard has been horible at marketing these days. I do feel like we need a brawl with new cards but knowing them its gonna be a while till we get one. They pulled same thing in whichwood and i think we had a brawl for one expansion with new cards week before but not sure which was it. And later on they decided to go for fireside thing.
Hearthstone is probably half marketing.... Of course they miss some opportunities but that's kind of a stupid question to begin with.. Do you think game designers are behind all that reveal schedule and those e-mails you receive? And all the social media activity?
Blizzard has their flaws but Hearthstone's marketing team is doing a pretty good job if you ask me, you're being really harsh for no reason
Yeah. Sure, it would be great to celebrate with a new brawl, but you can't have everything. Besides, they have 100 million players, they don't care all that much i suppose, most of them are probably playing this brawl the first time, not everyone plays the game daily like we do.
You are mixing two very separate professions who should not interfere too much with eachother.
-The people who run the GAMEPLAY.
-The people who market the game.
Sure, marketing guys could come along and suggest thinks in special situations, but I don't think you want a "buy the new overwatch skin" flavor text of a card. Likewise, the hearthstone marketing dept does a pretty good job at spamming me that a new expansion is coming, make trailers etc, but the gameplay guys are not salesmen nor graphic designers for commercials.
I believe the only time a promotional Tavern Brawl happened was during the launch cycle of The Grand Tournament. You were given a premade deck that was Inspire vs Joust themed.
Times were different back then, the patch that included all the new cards was implemented about a week before the actual launch so such a Brawl could take place. Now-a-days the launch cycle is much shorter in order to retain hype for the new content. The Brawls will happen, they always do.
Based on my experience from last few expansions we will get a Rastakhan premade decks tawern brawl three weeks after release (it is sad but i’m not joking)
During the pre-release event people will be able to play the exact brawl with deck recipes that you're talking about. If they would have also allowed people to play that same brawl during the regular weekly tavern brawl event, there would be much less incentive for people to go to the pre-release events.
Só, basically what you're asking is people from the marketing department (corporate assholes, IMO), to intervene (even more) in the design and technical team work.
That line of thinking is the cause of things like Diablo Immortal to exist.
I have only seen it once back in "The Grand Tournament" expansion where we got to play as two classes, hunter and I believe mage with a premade deck containing new cards. It was awesome - I played it several times and it got me hyped for the expansion - I can only agree that not doing it is poor marketing.
I been hoping for a prerelease brawl with new cards since then, but I think the only thing we have gotten prereleased since, was an arena where you could play with the new card (can't remember expansion). Honestly the recipe brawl, that will come a month too late, would be perfect for prerelease or atleast first week brawl.

It is great for people like me, who do not have a prerelease event xD

You can always run an android emulator on your PC and set your location to where there is a Fireside Gathering. That was how I got my Nemsy.

OP they can't do that because the cards aren't in the client yet (i.e. the Hearthstone program on your PC/phone/tablet).
If they put the cards in the client then they would be datamined and put up on websites before officially revealed.
They will be soon though and lets hope for a good brawl next week :)
Also most people reading your post won't know what a GCSE is :) Mine were so long ago I can hardly remember myself.

OP get a clue. You can't use cards in a Brawl that DO NOT EXIST in the game yet. God.

They actually have a good reason for not doing this:
