While not an F2P player by any means (I've spent at LEAST $800 on the game, even though I now regret it) I honestly wish the game was more F2P friendly, and it isn't very much so from what I hear. Here's what I would do to improve it, not that any of this will happen. This is meant to be a constructive thread, not a salt one. I am by no means complaining, just stating the improvements I myself would make to the game.
1. Freebies I remember WotOG, when I started playing the game. I'd already amassed at least 20 packs within the first day. It was awesome - I even got to make my first half-decent deck, a budget Zoolock! Now, I'd be surprised if you could UPGRADE a deck. With around 6 packs or so every time an expansion launches, if not less, things are not looking great. Correct me if I'm wrong, but WotOG gave 8-10 for just logging in, and maybe an extra 4 or so from quests? Yeah.
All in all, even with the free legendaries, it just feels like it's too little, even for me. If I went an expansion without buying anything with $$$, I'd probably be nigh incapable of playing more than one or two decks. Now, while you can be a hardcore player and get through things EASILY as F2P, remember not everyone wants to or can spend that much time on the game. For me, it's just a fun way to play 5-10 matches whenever I'm bored. You shouldn't have to play a game 24/7 to be able to play it properly.
In conclusion to this point, I feel like players should get more bonuses. For the start of an expansion, I'd like to see players, for the sake of F2P players (since us P2W players get by fine), get at least 8 packs an expansion as a base, and a legendary from a set pool of good ones. No, not you, Emeriss.
2. Economy Oh boy, is the economy rough. It's basically "drop some dough or get lost," for a few simple reasons. One thing I -hate- about games is how much of an advantage P2W players can have, hence the term Pay to Win. It's nice when we at least have more ways to play or more things to do, but having a strict advantage like, say, certain cards necessary to get past rank 23, are almost inaccessible unless you pay up. I have some simple solutions.
Make Legendaries cost 1200 dust instead. 1600 is four legendaries - get four bad ones and you only get one good one, IN ADDITION TO HAVING TO LOSE THOSE ONES, my ass. Three is still a lot, but more bearable. I'd say 800, but I'd get flamed for that. Now, in addition to this, getting more gold would be nice - or getting more packs in general. Getting 1-2 a day doesn't really cut it, since, at the least, that's 1 legendary a month. If you're lucky, maybe you'll get 2 or 3, but with the amount of bad ones.... Yeesh.
Oh, also, make it so you can preorder with gold. That'd do a favor for everyone, since, you know, not everyone wants to drop $50 to even $80 every 4 months just for a game - the SAME game, mind you.
3. Sales Please, just do sales from time to time. That's literally all this is. Do sales.
4. Adventures Bring back adventures. They're actually pretty useful for F2P, since overall you have to pay less, money or gold. Also, make the cards craftable even while they're in standard, maybe just add extra rewards to the adventure, like Dust or Hero Skins or even packs. Or, increase the cost for crafting Standard adventure cards to incentivize buying it, or something. They're also
F-U-N
So yeah, just make adventures again. Not that any of this will be done, of course. This is a fan site, after all.
5. Card Power All I even have to say is, don't make the best decks the most expensive. Make them all about equal, regardless of cost. Hell, maybe even make them all cost relatively similar amounts.
6. Consensus Basically I'm just worried for the state of the game being F2P-unfriendly. I want the game to be the best it can be, but sadly I'm not sure it WILL be. Part of the problem is it not being super F2P-friendly, if at all. Just let everyone have fun in some way, regardless of how much they spend.
This is a tricky thing because starting any TCG/CCG a few years late is going to take time to catch up and fill the gap. I think that there should be a comprehensive new players guide.
I think there should be a "New Player Mode," that you can no longer access once all your heroes are level 10; at least this will allow them to get their feet wet.
Upon creating a new account, you are thrown to the sharks with the obligatory "win X amount of games" for the skins.
I was fortunate and able to buy all the adventures with gold which gave me something to play with in Wild.
My new player experience was made doubly awful because I joined the official forum and it is a toxic cesspool.
"Git gud noob."
"R20 Scrub."
"F2P? You must be job-less,home-less, and leeching off public wifi."
Some went even as far as to say that I was a drain on society.
I think that we, as a comminity, should educate our new players and assist them in completing quests, spectating their games, and maybe even writing a "What I Wish I knew When I Was New."
Im F2P ( minus the newbie bundle when I first started for 9.99 ) and it was rough at the start, But after a few months I have 3 or 4 decent meta decks and a pretty nice collection of meme decks to keep me interested. My advice is practice and get good at arena. Even at a 3 or 4 win avg. its still cheaper than buying packs for gold.

If you thought you knew what you think I know, then you'd know I knew you knew I know.
They already make shitloads of money. This wouldn’t lower the amount by much at all, just make the player base happier. You’re not going to not preorder because you get 10 more free packs, for instance.
Adventures are not coming back give up, but you can play content for free each expansion since Kobolds.
The thing is 10 packs for 1 person makes no diference 10 packs for everyone is a lot of money (at least 10 dolars/player and how many are there 10 m, 20m ?? ).
Pre order with gold is not going to happen, what blizz gets by doin that ?? just farm and buy them at launch.
About the card power you know that legendary cards are cards that you shoulndt get to place 2 of them in a deck right ? imagine if they made a epic oakheart ?? a rare Sunkeeper?? Common Shudderwock and Grumble ?? doenst look good for me.
No colection card game is really free to play friendly if you want the max experience you need the full colection so you either play or farm all you can every day.
Also everyone that makes those post forgets about nice stuff that gives us more gold/dust The Tavern of Time, Ragnaros Festival, Winter Festival all that costs money to make and also give us free stuff.
I'd really like this, being F2P, but Blizzard would NEVER do this. They are too dang greedy haha. I'm not flaming you, this is a good idea, but I see no realistic world where blizzard would do this. However, bringing back adventures doesn't see too bad or far fetched... BLIZZ PLZ
I like the punishment of being F2P. If I have access to all of everything every xpac, there would be no point in playing. I'm not opposed to anyone preordering, nor am I opposed to anyone purchasing content. It's a fun game.
However, regardless if you're F2P or purchasing content, it still takes practice and the new player experience is still difficult. It isn't about wanting access to every xpac for free. As for the Toki event, I was able to craft Lich King.
I definitely look forward to the Fire Festival, as well as the new xpac about to drop. It isn't about entitlement or getting stuff for free. It's really just a brainstorm on how to better initiate and welcome new players.

Lemme clear this up for you.
1. I said I WISH they would, not that they WILL.
2. ??? I don’t understand what you’re saying. If what you mean is it costs Blizzard $10 for every 10 packs each player gets, you need to rethink that.
3. Again. I wish it would be the case, but don’t expect it.
4. You obviously didn’t get the point of the card power section, please reread it so I don’t have to restate it.
5. Kinda? The point I’m trying to get across is the game could be a lot more F2P friendly. Overall, it isn’t, while it could and should be.
6. Uh, what? It doesn’t cost them much, if anything. Sure, it’s free stuff, but its only around once every three months at most, which doesn’t make the new player experience better.
Overall I think you missed all the points completely. I don’t mean that in a rude way, I just think you should reread it and reevaluate what I said.
Also, about not having all the cards I want - I could probably disenchant lots of them, I just play lots of off-meta decks. That’s all - it isn’t lacking, per se, as I have all the ones I need. It’s a matter of me trying to make tons of decks which are usually expensive.
All in all, this is just my opinion. I wish these changes would happen even though they won’t.
I feel differently than you. I think the game is pretty "f2p" friendly. I spent 16 dollar and playing since ungoro.
I have almost all the priest cards since than (priest main) and a wild reno deck (raza, kazakus, reno).
I have an odd pally deck (which I almost never play) and some others.
I'm having fun and can play what I want. I do think that as an f2p player you should have different expectations. Imo I don't mind not having all t1 decks, as long as I have fun.
I'm at almost 5k gold and 5k dust now as well for next xpac (and a golden leg to dust in my collection when necessary).
Adventures are not coming back give up, but you can play content for free each expansion since Kobolds.

4. I just said legendary cards have the most powerfull/ rare texts, so the best decks will need those powerfull or unique cards to work( some need it lesse like Zoo) but most tier 1-2 decks will look to abuse some of those cards. Even if they wanted to print it on non legendary cards it would make the balance of the game really bad ( just think about those examples and how some decks would be more broken)
6. Coding, making, testing events and special cards costs time and money to do and they coud just not do them and repeat brawls and leave arena alone forever.
Also its really easy to miss your point when half your topics are I wish decks were cheaper, i wish legendary cards were cheaper, I wish they gave us more packs,, I wish they would make sales for packs ( And they did do that). I know you didnt mean just that but they sound like it. I also really want, but theres no way those things will happen and maybe they really shouldnt, so i just look the bright side and enjoy the free PVE content we had when i feel like i played my ladder decks way too much or go and do some arena runs.
I also dont mean it in rude way but theres no way to make all off meta decks and not spend way too much time or/and money on the game. I really want to make a galvadon pally, but i cant afford it if i also want 1 more viable ladder deck or a cool/key card from next expansion.
Well, speaking from the past experience of running two accounts - one "paid" and one "free", f2p experience isn't that awful IF you know what you doing and if you are at least somewhat good in the arena. That way you can make at least a couple meta decks with a little effort; when I was playing actively, I was able to even made a couple expensive ones, like say razakus priest.
The new player experience, on the other hand, is quite horrible in hearthstone compared to other digital card games I have tried/played. Having some starter decks available as one-time purchase for a couple $ or say 600 gold per 30-card deck would have been a really nice move towards new players, giving them some base to work on; the $5 newb bundle is great and all except being totally random, and getting some king krush from it hardly helps at all if you ask me.
This is a tricky thing because starting any TCG/CCG a few years late is going to take time to catch up and fill the gap. I think that there should be a comprehensive new players guide.
I agree that the information for new/F2P players is either lacking, not updated, or recommends extreme paths like disenchanting your whole collection for a top tier deck.
Popular streamers have not released any significant content for new F2P players in the Witchwood era: Trump basically harps on 5-star meta card reviews, DisguisedToast when asked for help for a new player replies with "How much are you willing to spend?", and starts a F2P Odd Rogue run for 1 stream before going back to playing expensive decks on his main.
Smaller streamers like RegisKillbin have made a series of budget deck videos which is good once you get to that 1000 dust stage and can build a budget deck, but in the first few months, you are still acquiring most of the commons and rares,so learning to play with casual decks and adding to them as you open more packs is something seriously missing. Trump used to do this in the old days with Classic cards, but no more.
Trump Teachings is still relevant for teaching new players the basic concepts of board control, tempo, mana efficiency, but there is no Witchwood version of it, so new players have fill in the gaps themselves with all these expansion cards they are unfamiliar with, and that is clearly overwhelming.
In the longer term, F2P is still difficult, as you want more cards and have to consider disenchanting more and more of your collection, or instead grind a lot of Arena/pay $$$. The collection curve becomes apparent.
So,
Blizzard need to change the dust economy, it needs to be cheaper
There needs to be catch up mechanics for the older expansions, at least while they are still in standard. Something like playing a certain amount of matches, and you can earn up to 10 packs of each of the older expansions.
Once you've caught up on the older expansions you can save enough gold for the next one, but if you're not at that stage, you have to diversify your gold across different expansions.
4. Adventures Bring back adventures. They're actually pretty useful for F2P, since overall you have to pay less, money or gold. Also, make the cards craftable even while they're in standard, maybe just add extra rewards to the adventure, like Dust or Hero Skins or even packs. So yeah, just make adventures again. Not that any of this will be done, of course. This is a fan site, after all.
I can agree to this, I remember when they first introduced Naxxramas. I hated the fact that I had to do either do a massive grind (I didn't have any sort of good deck so the grind would have been unbearable) or pay money (didn't have a job at the time), but now I see just how great the adventures actually are. $20 and you get all the cards gaurenteed versus $50 prepurchase and you might get all the common and rares -.-

Problem is when you say some catch up.. what you actually mean is > 6months of solid play and quest completion to get in a position where you can at aaveey basic level be viable within the ebs and flows of the seasons
The pro guys can set up annew account, full dust initial packs to create a budget deck and smash one season sure... But the committement from a new f2p player to get close to viable is pretty insane...
I spend a bit of money on the game... Too much really even though it is not nearly as much as other people, i do enjoy and like the frequency of expansions to keep things fresh
But the frequency of expansions is going to hammer people who cant afford pre-orders out of the game i think... Which isnt a good thing for the community overall.. Wil just cost too much to properly keep up...
I can barely keep up with all the sets dropping and handing over not insignificant amounts of money
While not an F2P player by any means (I've spent at LEAST $800 on the game, even though I now regret it) I honestly wish the game was more F2P friendly, and it isn't very much so from what I hear.
I agree that the information for new/F2P players is either lacking, not updated, or recommends extreme paths like disenchanting your whole collection for a top tier deck.
I've started a New player F2P series on YouTube hoping to shed light on all these struggles, there's a lot to cover and learn: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6fLhNPk_1Twj8mN6-pax4XrznUClzSA3
So,
Once you've caught up on the older expansions you can save enough gold for the next one, but if you're not at that stage, you have to diversify your gold across different expansions.
Can anyone give me a good reason why Blizzard would offer even more free stuff in their free to play game?
I can agree to this, I remember when they first introduced Naxxramas. I hated the fact that I had to do either do a massive grind (I didn't have any sort of good deck so the grind would have been unbearable) or pay money (didn't have a job at the time), but now I see just how great the adventures actually are. $20 and you get all the cards gaurenteed versus $50 prepurchase and you might get all the common and rares -.-
Making the game itself better, no?
Dont listen to these noobs, play only one calss (Paladin).
