If you do all your quests you can bet on 50g on average per day. An extension is every 4 months so roughly 120 days so you can reliably count on 6000 gold for every expansion. If you play a lot you can have more (I have an average of 80g/day).
The best strategy is to spend all your gold on day1, open your packs then craft what you need and save for the next expansion. This way you have less risks opening an epic you have crafted, which is a net loss of 300 dust. Before it was even more frustrating with legendaries but they fixed that.
I know it requires self control (it is always nice to open packs regularly) but if you can do it your collection will grow more efficiently.
If I may make a suggestion: Do NOT craft cards on the first 2 weeks.
It's HARD especially when everyone is hyped up and you are hyped up and oh so want those cards you didn't get yet, but crafting early almost always brings buyer's remorse.
It takes about 2 weeks for the dust to settle and for evaluations of cards to be pretty accurate. Cards we swore worked will shine for the first week then slowly lose their luster. Cards that we underrated will explode by then. By 2 weeks, you'll have a good handle on what's good, what's fun, and what's just bad.
If you want to be REALLY REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYY efficient, I found that instead of crafting cards (and chances are, not getting enough for a full deck of what you want to play since again you can't craft yet) go spam arena. I literally took all o fmy 6k gold and spammed arena for a solid month until I was broke. If you can average 3 wins or more then you'll be getting packs for cheaper than 100 gold meaning you'll be getting a good few more packs than before. Meanwhile you get to see the new cards AND avoid the lure of crafting before the dust settles.
Another note: You can start saving gold 1 month after an expansion hits and still get the 6k mark even if you are minimally casual. Thus you can count april 15-may 15 gold gains as part of this expansion as well if you like (or save early if you want).
ANOTHER note: This and all other calculations are based on the current quest system. The system will change turning many of the 40 gold quests into 50 gold ones, thus overall increasing the average gold per quest and making it a bit easier to earn 6k before the next expansion.
I got 2000g saved up and 8000 dust. If i disenchant all my golden cards I can probably get up to 9000 dust. I'll probably also pre-order, so I should be good :)
I have 5000+ gold, 1000+ dust and pre-order. Should have about ~130 packs at the start, plus dust I will have from HoF cards and wild ones. Hope it will be enough to make 2 decent decks. Aiming for mage (aggressive) and warrior (control) atm.
Currently have the preorder, 5000 gold, and 3000 dust ready. Will also be getting another 8000 dust with the HoF rotation, setting me to 11k dust for the expac. Depending on what I pull, and how much of the set I want to craft golden, I may also put $100 down on packs in addition. Will have to wait and see though.
No pre-order because 60 CDN on my limited budget isn't worth it for what they revealed, even with the extra 20 packs. Have 9k dust and that can help me get 1 ladder deck while the meta cools down, a strategy you basically have to adopt as a F2P.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Top 3 Favorite Cards: 1. Emperor Thaurissan | 2.Dr. Boom | 3.Ragnaros the Firelord
I have 2 k because I have been collecting gold for less than a month. And I dondt play much arena because I suck at it
7.5K in Gold, Preordered so I'll have ~150 packs. I just spend my dust on golden HOF cards so I should have around 6000 dust as well
My goal for this year is to spend everything at the start of each expansion and then just start saving up for the next one right away

No brain - no pain.

I'm at roughly 10k dust and ~3.5k gold; will be getting 3k dust from the hall of fame bonus.

0 dust. 3.5k gold. Burnt my dust for wild cubelock last night.
1600 Dust and should have about 4k gold by launch day + 4 packs from the promotion. No preorder as I'm dusting the rotated sets.
Should have attached a survey to this thread, would have been interested to see the results...
Saved my credit card for this. Lol!
I have 5k gold and 10k dust, will win 1800 more because of the rotation.
Ok, so 4 days before the expansion i pretty much know already what i'll have:
I’m f2p so only 4K gold and 7k dust
4k dust and 1k gold
