Call me thin skinned, SALTY AS **** or a crybaby I could care less, all I know is I am not buying another pack of cards until Blizzard gets rid of emotes or at least puts a squelch option for permanent.
It does not bother me when I am at rank 2-3 and my opponent makes an intelligent decision that wins him/her the match. But when you're facing some knob gobbler at scrubby & noobish rank 10 and they are emoting you left & right with "well played" and all the other non-sense because they noobed out on RNG, nothing is more irritating...
Surely they must realize that ( I certainly do ) at rank 10 they are **** at this game. With the exception of stragglers who just starting ranking of course, do these people have no shame? The most irritating are the Jade Druids, as they obviously should be at legend with such a retard deck, but when Druids luck out and emote "well played "" I wanna puke.
I know it's annoying to do this every game, but it's all we got for now.
Perhaps I do not know, but I do squelch them and they are able to emote less than one minute afterwards. I am not very good ( rank 10 ) therefore match up against some very delusional people who think they are skilled and feel they must emote me to get their point across that feel they are elite. It's insane dude!
And then some of us just say ''well played'' at the end of a match, regardless of outcome, as a form of courtesy towards the other player.
Based on the OP's pejorative description of those around rank 10 however, I would say manners and courtesy are not necessarily concepts he'd be well acquainted with.
You see this comment by Ubbens? It is clear that I am not referring to a game that goes for 25 minutes and at the end the end of the match we congratulate each other. Ubbes is the exact type of person I wish I could perma squelch, so when meeting up on ladder he would never be able to emote me sarcastically.
There is a squelch button. Alternatively, you could try not being so sensitive. There are real issues in the world, emotes on an online card game are the least of your worries.
Hey now... Rank 10 is very respectable for those of us with responsibilities in life. Ya know, like: Kids, Wife, job etc.... Also, if you have these things, you could not care less about "emotes". Maybe grow up! Problem solved.

Actually, "Ubbens" hit the nail right on the head. He is correct 100%. If your opponent is annoying, feel free to squelch. If he says "greetings," and "well played," with no annoying spamming in between, he is a gentleman who is sincerely trying to make the game more enjoyable for fools like yourself.
As someone else said, there is plenty of real issues in the world. Don't be a crybaby because someone emotes got under your skin and you got tilted. Are you 12 dude? Cmon.

I would be totally fine with an auto-squelch function that people could use if they wanted to, but emotes improve my experience of the game so I wouldn't want it forced on me. I usually say greetings at the start of the match (its my way of saying glhf), and well played at the end of the match (way of saying gg), and try not to spam emotes too frequently otherwise. I do sometimes say "wow" if I see my opponent do something unexpected or crazy, I'm intending to convey congratulations to them.
Sometimes if we both get our death knights at around the same time in the game I might use a threaten emote. Maybe that's bad, but I find it kinda amusing to act as a villain after I play my death knight. I still try not to overspam though, I do get how its annoying and don't want to be that person who emotes the entire match.
I go from enjoying them to hating them like everyone else. Saying to right click and squelch everyone is dumb for a few reasons. Sometimes you forget. Usually when I start playing the emotes don't piss me off unless i'm on a losing streak and against the 12th jade druid/pirate warrior in a row.
Having to right click and emote everyone every game reminds you that you aren't having fun. Getting rid of them altogether is obviously dumb though.
HERE IS A POLL, KEEP EMOTES OR GET RID OF EMOTES.

The mythical Auto Squelech, which y'all are demanding, already exists.
It is available as a plugin of Hearthstone deck tracker.
When the weak court death, they find it.
Forget getting rid, we need more, even funny ones. I believe removing sorry was a mistake. I believe interaction makes the game more fun.

Emotes are awesome, you are crazy OP. :P
Just chillax.
