posted a message on Post A Screenshot of your Battlegrounds Rating!

    33 first, 120 top 4, 6750

Pretty proud of this, I think I do reasonably well at the game. I tried it on mobile a few times and I gotta say, PC players have a massive advantage in this game. Playing on phone really doesn't give you time to do everything you want to do between turns, even with the new update. Playing on PC generally does now.

It's quite amazing really that people still think strategy decides BG games, when it's actually 80% pure and simple RNG. I mean sure, go ahead and convince yourself that you made a brilliant strategy when you highroll a win :D

If that's the case then all the pros seem to be extremely lucky with ratings beyound 9000 most of them ...  ;)

They also play a LOT, and I think playing a lot generally gives you a higher rating.

Over the long term, its probably pretty similar to hearthstone. Good strategy and not making mistakes lets you win a bit more often, while luck is a huge factor in individual games.

posted a message on Millhouse the worst hero ever?

He's not amazing, but he's not that bad, I've had decent success with him.

I think he relies a ton on getting a token turn 1 though, which lets you sell the tokens on turn 2 and turn 4 to have an even amount of mana both those turns. If you do that, he can tier up to 2 on 2, then have six tier 2 units and tier up to 3 by turn 5. When he highrolls, he's actually really strong.

Personally, I think he should be changed to start with a coin in his hand, which would let him tier up on 2 every time, and make him much more consistent at getting out of the gate. He really suffers when you don't get a token on turn 1, because his late game is bad, and he needs a pretty big early game edge in order to be viable.

posted a message on Battlegrounds Stats

I've had a ton of fun playing battlegrounds, its been a really refreshing game mode in hearthstone, and as someone who really likes deep diving in to stats, I was really curious to see my official statistics on battlegrounds. When I bought my 10th descent of dragons pack, I took a look at my stats so I could see how many games I've played and see my overall winrate, overall top 4 rate, my winrate with various heroes, and...

Found these stats nowhere to be seen.

I'm really disappointed in blizzard's stat tracking page, and am wondering if there's a fan stat tracker that shows something more useful. Top 4 and first are both good stats to have, but I'd love a graph that shows how many times I've gotten each position, compared to one another. The stats I have are... well... completely impossible to contexualize and totally useless right now, especially without knowing how many games I've played, which is the single stat that I want the most.

I think some stats in the blizzard stat tracker are even misleading, as top 5 heroes by wins records me with 18 wins, when I only have 11 first place finishes. I... Think a blizzard 'win' is top 4? That's not a bad category, but they need to call it something other than wins.

All I really know now is that I have 39 top 4s, 11 first place wins, and 22 hours played in this game mode, while hovering at around the 6k rank, which is... well... about exactly what I knew before I unlocked this page. So yeah, super sad and anybody who has a better battlegrounds stat tracker would be awesome now, especially if it could read all the games on my account.

posted a message on New Neutral Card - Vilefiend

Not amazing obviously, but not as bad as people here think imo. Warlock just got a lot of cards that are really strong if they can survive using them, and this has a demon tag. When I was experimenting with even warlock before it got popular I often really wanted a cheap minion that gained me a bit of health in the early game, and felt like viscious scalehide and plated beatle were both viable ways to do that.

This card is comparable in some ways to those cards, and if the demon tag matters, I think it could be an inclusion in some sort of self damaging deck.

posted a message on New Warlock Card - Plague of Flames

This card is interesting, because its ability to be good removal is insane, yet the decks that want to flood the board usually want to win off of aggression, not off of removal and survival. Could this create some sort of board flooding in to big minions deck, maybe? Aka, control warlock except with things like summon 4 imps and raffams scheme just to use as a mass removal combo with this card?

posted a message on New Warrior Card - Frightened Flunky
    Quote from Coriolisx >>

Doesn't seem better than Stonehill Defender to me. With earlygame taunts you generally want health heavier stats. 1 Attack is enough to kill most aggro earlygame minions (and lackeys nowadays). Also earlygame taunts with big health protect your other important stuff, that's why Tar Creeper was so good.

Also Stonehill's total stats were 5, this is only 4, and it was played with generally better taunts in the pool to discover. Bloodhoof Brave, Direhorn Hatchling, Dirty Rat, Tar Creeper and Saronite Chain Gang are all not in Standard anymore.

Upside: This has a higher chance of going infinite, because of class card discovery bonus.

This is one mana cheaper than Stonehill though, which is huge. The fact that this is only playable in warrior means it won't be as omnipresent as stonehill was (if it were a neutral card it would be broken in paladin, imo), and the taunt pool is admittedly a bit weaker, but it is an early game play that slows down aggro a bit while not costing you card advantage in a control matchup. The thing that makes it strong is that its a pretty good card in any situation, against aggro its a 2/2 taunt that can find you another cheap taunt, against control its a value card that can discover you a huge minion.

I think warrior is looking incredibly strong at the moment, so maybe there are better cards out there, but I think this is good enough to theoretically see play in any deck. Its a common card with pretty much no downside, those tend to see play.  At the very least it will be a budget card that could be placed in to any warrior deck and work out pretty well, I think it has the potential to be more than that though.

posted a message on New Paladin Minion - Annoy-o-Module

Don't underestimate this card, divine shield is very good as a buff, because it often allows you to trade against a bigger minion and take no damage in the process. As a standalone card its not great, but as a +2/+4, destroy your opponents 3 drop (or a bigger minion later game), it could be pretty decent.

posted a message on Current cards that will shine in Boomsday (maybe)

If the first legendary spell is any indication, these won't necessarily be spells you'll want to play more than once. For example, there's not really much benefit to drawing your deck multiple times. What random spell generation does give you is the ability to get the spell in your hand earlier, which could be pretty good, depending on circumstance.

posted a message on Hearthstone Battle Royale

I actually kinda like the concept behind this as an event, with the knowledge that it would be a complete rng fiesta.

As is, it would take way too long to complete a game though. Maybe if all 100 people were taking their turns simultaneously, and/or if it were just 16 people or something, it could work.

Eh, could be a fun tavern brawl, a terrible game in general. Would need a different requirement on getting the pack, because winning one of these would be improbable.

posted a message on Something that always bugged me about NOURISH

Nourish costs 5 mana, the other ramp cards cost four or less, and/or have some tempo value when they're played. The greedy sprite comes with a 3/1 body, which the opponent has to react to. Wild growth is cheap enough you can still come back.

Basically, 5 mana do nothing is a whole lot weaker than 2 mana do nothing, so they gave you back 2 full mana crystals to keep the option playable.

posted a message on Who purposely does not play Tier 1 decks? Why?

I don't learn much by playing tier one decks. Sure, I might not win much, but I learn why I don't win much. For instance, what makes abominable bowman bad? Mainly, its hunter's lack of board clears (because unleash the hounds doesn't work with it, card draw is solved by deathstalker rexxar). I know this because I've played around and lost more games than I can count trying to make that card work.

Also, I just find taking a deck everyone knows is good and winning with it to be boring. Trying to counter the meta decks while designing my own deck is a fun challenge I can enjoy.

posted a message on Favorite Witchwood Card?

I really like Genn Greymane, I feel like I'm going to have a lot of new decks to experiment with every expansion. Recently I've been enjoying genn warlock, having a one mana life tap feels so good... when your opponent doesnt thank you for dealing an extra 10 damage to yourself.

posted a message on Baku or Genn?

I crafted genn today because I'm impulsive and realized it had a lot of synnergy with traditional handlocke decks. You miss out on the voidlord/cube/dark pact/lackey combo, but twilight drake and mountain giant fit really well, and most of warlocks removal is even cost. Because you have 1 mana draw, losing mortal coil and kobold librarian isn't that big of a deal.

It's probably not the best craft right now, but it's a flexible card that's fun to deckbuild with, and can theoretically be powerful in any class in the future. Id be surprised if it doesn't pop up in t1 decks pretty frequently as new cards are released.

posted a message on Mage used same spell multiple times

Mage has a ton of random spell generation, there were possibly some spellstones, maybe a cabalists tome, maybe a shifting scroll, maybe a cabalists tome from a shifting scroll off a spellstone...

I dunno, most likely situation is misremembering.
