Hi guys. Before I start, I just wanna say I'm not salty, mad or anything
The whole ladder is filled with tier 1 (and tier S) decks. Even rank 20 is full of those decks. The reason why I'm talking about this is 'cause never before was the ladder this strong.
Now, do you guys think that this situation is a good or a bad thing? It's fun free, that's for sure, and if you want to, let's say play tier 3 deck, you'll have to be expert on that deck type to go thru the ranks. The good thing is that almost everyone can afford to build strong meta decks.
(I'm playing on EU, I don't know about other servers)
That's what I'm talking about man. I have an acc on NA, but I wasn't playing there for a whole month, so idk. Strong ladder like this never happened before.
I did a F2P account to grind for Morgle a few days go, which took me about 5 hours, with tutorials, class unlocks and one arena run.
I reached rank 15 (EU standard) and had an overall winrate close to 70% on ladder. Of meta-decks I met big priest, pirate warrior, jade druid and evolve shamans (though I can't say for certain if these decks didn't miss key cards). But people generally did such basic mistakes that it wasn't very hard.
I played "tempo" mage (portals from Karazan intro, crafted mirror entity, counterspell and 2 arcanealogists... roc from pack and boulderfist for threats), which worked just fine.
I can see that a new player might struggle a bit, but a) I'm very far from an expert and b) It's doable with some effort
I don't think rank 10 should be very hard at all if your put your mind to it as F2P pretty quick, which I'd say is pretty decent. Above that and it is fair that you have to focus more on collecting and building competitive decks.
I started a new account two days ago to see how the ladder is for a new player. I got played against DK Mage at rank 22, Evolve Shaman at rank 21, full Jade Druid at rank 20 (lost this game), Big Priest at rank 19. Got one loss from rank 25 to 15 (Jade Druid at rank 15) playing a Hunter deck using amazing cards like River Crocodilisk.
So far, the new legendary rule helps a lot the new players. You get a free DK doing the first Lich King fight. You get 3 free KFt packs for logging, at least one more by the free arena, 3 more completing KFT adventure (there are a lot of tutorials on doing it for cheap), so will need to buy only 3 more packs to guarantee a legendary. For classic packs, there are 9 packs alone doing start missions, so another legendary. I got two (The Beast and Nat Pagle, wow 800 dust!).
So I think that, while there are so many good decks at rank 20, it is perfectly possible for a new player to rank easily these days, because of the amount of free dust available at the start and people are playing very badly at High ranks.
I feel like you're missing the point. I'm not talking about it's hard for f2p players, I wouldn't know. I'm talking about how ladder is strong and shit :D
And yeah, those players do missplay. I mean, I've been playing face hunter (I wanted to try something new yet old) and I destroyed a good portion of those tier 1 decks (I mean, one druid threw Ultimate Infestation at my Alley Cat ). But that's not my point and that doesn't change the fact that ladder is stronger then ever.
Tho, I'm happy that today a f2p players can make a strong deck pretty fast.
Oddly enough, I am struggling with the US ladder, but one of the big things that is throwing me off lately, is the lack of the normal meta decks. Admittedly, I am not a "great" player, but I play a lot, and I watch a lot of videos, and I spend a lot of time here reading and asking questions ... and for a short while, I was getting pretty decent at countering and predicting classes and decks. And during that time, I was able to climb to rank 12. But it seems the last several days, I am getting probably 3/4 of my matches against powerful, yet unorthodox decks, and that is really wrecking me due to lack of experience and skill. I know I am making bad trades, or getting blindsided by minions that I don't have (or don't know) the answer for.
Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining at all ... this is what I feel the game should look like. People are starting to experiment with decks. Just hoping I can get it together before the end of the season and hit my goal (which is only rank 10, so not out of it yet by any means).

I play on both EU and NA. I must say that rank 15 on EU is almost as hard as rank 5 on NA.
Lots of tryhards with perfect meta decks on EU. It's almost unplayable for FTP players. That's why I've dedicated most of my time to the NA server.
Last month I struggled to get rank 10 on EU and the best I could was rank 12 while on NA I easily finished at rank 4.

Tnx for replying.
