I was looking through some of the card backs and really wish there were ways for me to attain card backs through alternative goals. Since I can't obviously "reach rank 20 for the the month of May 2015" I was thinking it would be cool to be able to craft card backs or maybe spend gold to buy a certain back.
There should forever be one exception: Legendary card back is uncraftable/not for purchase. What do you guys think?
I think it would be another fun goal that people could work towards.

Still not sure if I hate Hearthstone...or love it.
I'd probably be okay with them allowing the past free card backs to be crafted or obtained somehow, but I do think ones like the Golden Celebration one need to be kept special. Mostly every time I see the Halloween one or the Pirate one I feel sad I missed those two months of HS.
Overall though I don't think it's a big deal if they do or don't implement a way to get old card backs. I know I use the Pandaria one every once in awhile just because it's cool to know it's linked with being a player during the first season of HS. We also just don't have a lot of ways of showing them off, so it's pretty minor as far as cosmetics go.

My idea for card back crafting/unlocks would be after you've hit level 60 in every class you can get extra xp after that. It would be like a "paragon level" in Diablo 3. After you've gotten so much XP and gotten to paragon level 1 you get to unlock a cardback of your choice. The XP threshold would be pretty high to start and double each time making it take twice as long each time.
i miss not having them too - but I get why there is opposition
What if we could get them as per whatever method they decide - BUT they would have a distinguishing mark, feature or logo that indicates that this is not the original one but one of the copies?
I think they should, though I do think there should be a variation if there is a crafted card back. Perhaps a different lining or something of the sort, make sure people see they crafted it and didn't earn it on the month.

Something like that anyway.
Why is your profile picture so nostalgic to me? where have i seen that before its racking my brain lol. Something tells me its from a crude 90s/ naughties meme
Ben Brode actually answered this question in his recent Q&A. He said they are thinking about it but aren’t sure how to implement it right now. Also, they will need to check which ones they’re gonna make available for recollecting which takes some time.
Yeah I LOVE the idea. I like collecting the cardbacks but I'm not gonna get any for going to blizzcon (if there are any) or fireside gatherings (I don't go to any) but would still like to get those.

Definitely not, it would make cardbacks feel less special if anybody could get them.

For the free card backs buying them with gold or crafting them I'm all for.
The ones you have to get through a promotion shouldn't be obtainable outside those parameters however.
I showed up later to the game between Naxx and BRM so to get some of those sweet looking card backs some how would make me a very happy collector.

I really want the pirate wheel cardback. I would pay gold/dust to get it.

Yep, Mr. Bean
They're not worth it though, they're not worth creating a new currency system or them, or wasting dust on them, They're just visual content.
Don't mind me just passing by
Hell no I wanna keep showing off that Rainbow cardback
I missed Black Temple by a month. I get envy every time I see that. That and the Blizzcon cardbacks.
