All right, here's my first attempt at a card. Mostly, I started from really liking this particular artwork.
Originally, I was going to make it a druid card, but I think the effect has too much potential to allow only one race to use it.
Am I using the right term? I was about to use "tribe" but then remembered that's MTG terminology.
Any thoughts on the stats balance, OP potential I'm not seeing or other changes I should consider?
Thanks!
ACinJC
It is such a weird card that it is kinda hard to understand. Your's is by far the most "out there" card in this thread. But I'm not actually sure what it does or how it would work.
Ah, I should probably explain more, then, so it can actually be evaluated.
The idea is that the battlecry would allow you to permanently apply one of the "race" keywords to your hero that are normally only on minions. So, for those cards that key off of a particular race word being out on the board, this could trigger it. (For example, if you selected to apply the "Mage" race to your hero, it would permanently trigger Cogmaster to be a 3/2, and Blastmage could trigger with nothing else on the board).
Aaand, as I'm describing that potential use, I'm realizing just how powerful that effect could actually be. Hm... what about making it a 3/3 for 5?
Yeah, but all the interactions seem sorta wonky. Like does Murloc Warleader give your Hero +2 Attack all the time and +1 Maximum Health?
If you picked murloc as your race, then, yes... but keep in mind the inherent risk that could potentially entail - dying instantly to a Hungry Crab.
Oh, I read the card as "Give your hero power a race keyword". Which was very weird. But ok, now it makes more sense. Really more sense. Hehe. Yeah I think it's fun, but I would still narrow it down to one race probably.
Hey, I know I already have won a competition, but is it okay to like... enter the contest anyway? I think they are fun, which is probably the biggest reason I entered them anyway. Anyway, I'll try to give some feedback because I never really did that before :P
@ACinJC (Izana the Transformed): I think I get it! It's like tribal effects in MtG right? Like, if you choose Murloc, have a Murloc Tidecaller and use your hero power it gets +1 Attack? It's a creative effect in that case, but... it also seems very odd to use. I guess Mech would be a pretty good choice, mostly because of Mechwarper, but that doesn't really fit the druid theme that well. I would suggest narrowing it down to a single type, then the theme would be a lot clearer and also its wording wouldn't be as confusing. For example "Your hero power is considered a mech." But then again... it wouldn't have that many synergies. It's probably too weird. While I'm writing this I have read your newer post, and if it works with stuff like Cogmaster and Goblin Blastmage, then it's a bit better but still kind of in a weird spot. I don't know.
I will give other cards feedback as well but I'm kind of tired right now so I'll do that at a later date (maybe I shouldn't be making such statements when I'm tired but oh well). Here's an idea I had anyway:
I just looked at this art and realized what I had to do right away. Battleboar was a character I had in wow, a lowly level ~10 Orc Rogue scrub (I deleted him at one point though, rip). Anyway, I got some memories of a troll thread I made with him on the wow forums when I was... well, younger. The thread was about how to get a Devilsaur mount and it was a pretty bad attempt at trolling, but it was a bit fun anyway. So he's basically an Orc who really likes dinosaurs. The art didn't really represent a Rogue though, so I couldn't make him a Rogue, and also it isn't a Hunter which would make sense thematically... so I just said heck, lets make it a neutral. Also, a note: I wanted him to summon King Krush when you have a Devilsaur, but really that seems like way too much text and you wouldn't even get to that point in most cases. Would be fun though, but then I think I'll have to shorten the text in some way.
Yeah, u can definetly enter again, why not :)
I think u might make this card 5/5 easy, it is so conditional (one specific card in entire game) and even more u have to use your hero power. So its extremly conditional and if u want a "Turn 9: 2-card + hero power" combo for 3/5+3/2+5/5 i think that it is quite slow and im not sure who would even play this, maybe beast druid or some control hunter?:) Cute idea tho ;-)
btw if u have 2 raptors do u get 2 devilsaurs? i think u should get just one (at least from how u worded it) ;-)
There isn't really an official term for the tribal cards in Hearthstone tmk, but I've heard most of the synergy called tribal synergy so I think you can use the word "tribal" in the card. Other than that, the effect seems interesting. How does it work with cards like Murloc Warleader and Mal'Ganis?
Anyway, I decided to scrap my old idea in favor of this one. It's more grandiose and game-changing than my other idea.
This does count armor, so if you have 20 health and 20 armor your opponent with 30 health will be destroyed, winning you the game. Thoughts?
Honestly i dont like this card at all, sure u give your opponent a turn to kill u before this effect take place and it might be too slow, but i dont think it is, it can be played in demonlock with Voidcallers to get CRAZY body early ... and when u play this for its ability, u basicly buy yourself 11 health, cause if your opponent doesnt remove this, u will hit him for 9 and he will most likely be on lower health then u are = loose the game. I would go back to drawing board ;-)
I agree with Sinti, this could very easily be a 5/5. Inspire effects IMO shouldn't detract much from the value of a card, because they're not guaranteed to happen. As a 5/5, the card is able to be played on curve and will continue to generate value as it survives. I really like the effect on this card too; it actually makes Bloodfen Raptors a threat in the mid-late game which is fun.

You only get 1 Devilsaur if you have 2 Raptors. And I was thinking that maybe his stats should be lower in case you played a Bloodfen Raptor from your hand, then used Hero Power. But yeah, it's still a very specific combo, so I guess I could make the stats better. But should it be a 5/5 or something more defensive? Maybe 3/6 is good enough? Thanks for the input anyway :)

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't thought of Voidcaller when designing the original card. Mal'Ganis is bad enough, I can see why a turn 5 9/11 could be problematic.
This is the revised version, it only has a War Golem-sized body so it's manageable from Voidcaller, and it gives your opponent an extra turn to beat you down.
I agree. I think that Battleboar would definitely be a fun card. I honestly think Inspire is being abused, but then again, so was Deathrattle when Naxx came out. I do think it's an awesome card still.
Also to Izana I think that could turn very disasterous. Many of the 'types' have a way to kill them in one hit. Murloc and Demon are two I would never use. Pirate however . . .
Description: After the Lich King fell, the Kirin'tor wished to safeguard the new Jailor. They took Leya, skilled but alone and sent her to keep him safe. She sat alone and nearly broke into tears and left, when in the snow, a bear appeared. It comforted her and now they stand: Guards to the Jailor of the Damned.
Honestly, I think the story of what i've created is my favorite. What makes me disappointed is people aren't taking the opportunity to create a story behind their characters.

I like 5/5 stats, it deals with most of current meta favourite minions and 5 hp is enought to stay alive for at least two attacks or eat big removal. So ur not sad if it gets removed, but can become rly great. ANd u can ofc always choose to keep it for later and combo it, but ur not sad to just play it on curve which is problem of most of the legendaries.

hh your wording REALY sucks :D im gona try to help u:
Leya: "Battlecry: Transform the next card you play into Meliae." (assuming u dont want to make it continuous effect and i think u shouldnt) Meliae: "Deathrattle: If Leya is still alive, resummon this minion."
Would "Discard the top card from your opponent's deck." be considered unique? I ask because: Fel Reaver.
Thats probably for the mods to answer, but i can tell u right now, that deck/hand attack cards r big nono for quite a few ppl if i remmember previous entries with such mechanic correctly. And i agree, that i would not want such card in the game, milling is enought.
Oooh, this was a challenging competition. I just really want to show my appreciation for the mods for keeping this competition going. Now they've driven it to new heights, even saying we need background lore. It's been great doing these. Now, if you'll excuse me, I will go and vote on the entries.
I already had a submission prepared, but it has been submitted to TWO of the previous competitions already. So, while searching for inspiration for this competition, I ended up making almost 2 cards that did, in fact, have relation to wow lore and had unique mechanics. (one can be found below, while the other picture is what I had in mind to also submit to this).
First draft. So, I'd been trying to improve the Overload situation and came to this solution. I really like the character Ursa, I think I've got a lot to work with lore-wise with the disciples, Ursites, and all. The mechanic seems good to me. It's functional with chances of OP T4 play possible, (T3 Ancestral Knowledge + Forked lightning = 4OL > T4 coin), but mainly T6/7 play. Also, nice and flavourful with an electrical overload summoning thing going on. Only thing, it's not amazingly original, but is it enough?
What do you think? Is the concept good enough. Ok, gonna give my thoughts on what's here so far.

Moam: u would every get max 2 mana and then 1 mana and then nothing from that ability, since u cant have more then 10 mana. Onlyway to realy get this goin is in ramp druid, that might actually work wonders.

Seems super wierd and overlly complex. Other then that i guess its fine :)

Previous entries I've seen that do something like that either do it too little to be good enough, do it too much to be balanced, or they discard cards from the opponent's hand, which is different from discarding it from their deck since you potentially destroy something they're holding on to (as opposed to something they "wouldn't have drawn", so to speak).
I'm really hoping it counts, I feel really good about the card I've come up with. I have a secondary effect in mind if it doesn't fly, but it doesn't 'groove with me' as much.

Its still something, that your opponent cannot play around and thats what i dont like about it the most, everything else in the game u can play round, sure u might not get the counter card to it in time, but u can play around it. With deck/hand attacks u usually cant play around it. Some exceptions were when u would discard a card after u played a minion or something like that, so the card with discard effect could be killed before or silenced etc, u can play around that, but not around like "battlecry: destroy 2 random cards from your opponent deck/hand" or even worse "steal X cards from your opponent deck/hand = u destroy them for your opponent and gain for yourself", thats like ultimate crazy for me :)
Hey guys, here is my idea. It's based off the Yu-Gi-Oh mechanic of tribute. I think this card will be really strong in mid-range decks, but a strong, fun addition to all decks. If you have any ideas on how to spruce him up let me know.
Oh, I read the card as "Give your hero power a race keyword". Which was very weird. But ok, now it makes more sense. Really more sense. Hehe. Yeah I think it's fun, but I would still narrow it down to one race probably.

Actually, you're right. Having it count armor seems a bit weird anyway, given how the text is written.
