This idea has probably been tossed around before, but i'm saying it now because I think it's prevalent. In the current meta we have ways of negating damage, negating spells, and diverting attacks; there are pretty much cards that counter every scenario no matter how niche (looking at you Light's Champion) so imagine cards like Spell Channelers that would force your opponent to target that card with any targeted spell that they cast, either restricting them to AOE spells or forcing them to deal with said card before playing there strategy.
I think this concept wouldn't be too broken because much like minions with powerful effects or taunt they become an immediate target and your opponent will try to get rid of them as fast as possible, but it might give you a little breathing room between you and them. Also, for many classes this would mess up thier strategies because whether they're buffing minions or Pyroblasting faces, spells are a valuable asset and if a deck is too spell heavy it could prove to be a serious hindrance.
If you have any thoughts about this please share, and if you feel like making any cards with the channel idea I would be pretty interested to see them.
Yeah, I feel the same way. It's a mechanic that should have been implemented a long, long time ago and one I'm sure Blizzard has thought about (at least, I hope they've thought about it). It isn't really that complicated considering that Taunt has always been there since the beginning. And you're right in saying that spell-heavy decks would get countered by Channel, in the same way that decks with burst are countered by Taunt.
I'd love to see other people making cards with this mechanic, and hopefully Blizzard will implement this mechanic in the future as well :)
I agree, there's no real good counter to spell-heavy decks, especially mage. I think a "spell-taunt" should only restrict targeting enemy minions, not your own, e.g. if an enemy has spell taunt, I can't target any other enemy characters, but I can still buff my own minions.
AndLoatheb did his job well. I'm sure he's getting a decent amount of play in Wild, but one turn of not using spells doesn't always shift the game in your favor. I'm just looking for a way to put m,ore diversity into the meta.

TL;DR: It's Taunt but for spells.

Well, we do have one card that has a variation of this effect: Spellbender.
Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.
Which is... oh! A mage card!
:)
Very interesting effect indeed . I hope blizzard implements this so my 7 7 does no longer get death, execute, fireball etc the next turn .
I do not like it. Loatheb was a much better design.
Spells are like chargers that die at the end of your turn. Cast once and they are gone. They NEED the target flexibility to be worth running at all.
Curvestone is bad enough as it is...
