IMO definitely works well in slower control decks where playing on curve and being aware of tempo is less important than keeping your opponents board in check and the extra removal later on for bigger targets is very nice.
Can't see it working too well in tempo or aggro where mana efficiency and so on is too important and you're highly unlikely to go through enough of your deck in most games to take advantage of the second torch.
I haven't been impressed with it at all in testing, I thought it would be good in Mech Mage with Fel Reavers in order to increase the total amount of reach but it has proven to be nothing more than an expensive and mediocre spell so far.
You don't play Forgotten Torch in Mech because you expect to get Roaring Torch, if you draw it off the top it's all well and good but you're just looking for a fist full of burn to push thru' after a Fel Reaver connects. And if Fel Reaver doesn't connect, then the opponent thinned the total number of cards in your deck in order to increase the likelyhood of top decking Roaring Torch. I think Roarching Torch is just a red herring unless you have a deck that goes to Fatigue, and doubt it could replace a Fireball or Pyroblast in Freeze Mage because mana for damage is all you care about after an Alexstraza and you need Fireball for a mid-range clear vs Doctor, Mysterious, Emperor etc. I think it's really bad in Tempo Mage, since Arcane Missiles is better burn than this and Arcane Blast and Flamecannon curve out better by themselves and with Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Who cares about Freeze Mage mirror matches, and if you did why wouldn't you just tech Antique Healbot? Needing more reach isn't the issue for Freeze Mage, that can already be accomplished thru' Malygos or Duplicate, I'd say better than Fireball in 80% of cases is total bullshit, and I wouldn't believe Pro's verdicts on initial impressions considering the raw efficiency and power of Fireball. At 3 Mana it probably has more combo potential than Fireball with Emperor, Archmage and Malygos, but the deck is already a slave to synergy as is.
I'd be happy to be wrong and maybe there is a place for the card over Pyroblast, Thalnos or the 2nd Iceblock, but I wouldn't cut Fireball for it fwiw.

Freeze Mage can always use more reach imo. What this card allows you to do is use the first half of it to remove something, and the token later on as a better Fireball . Freeze doesn't have a whole lot to do on turn 3 anyways, besides Arcane Intellect , Forgotten Torch just gives you more options. Cutting 1x Fireball and Pyroblast is definitely ok and has been working for me. You don't miss the second Fireball as I almost always draw through the majority of my deck and find either one or both copies of Roaring Torch . Pyroblast on the other hand, I have sometimes missed, I love the card and do find myself wanting it in my hand often, but that could just be me used to relying on it too much. My first impressions of this card in regards to Freeze Mage were skeptical, but it's slowly winning me over.

I made the Pyroblast/Thalnos cut and they were serviceable enough, but I'm not certain they improve any difficult match up over Sheeps or Bots etc. They were extremely useful for cutting Shredder in half tho', I've probably set up Blizzard more than I have cast the other half of the card so far.
Good for fatigue mage / grinder mage. Also, is a "draw - face burn" deck almost getting to the point of being actually viable ?

This card will replace fireball.
