the worst thing about this card is its dare i say... uninspired. dragon's breath at least has a mechanic to play around with can generate value/and or tempo.
how about a 1 mana card that does 8 damage to minion if that minion took damage from a fire spell or hero ability that turn ? cmon blizzard, you can do better !
think more about it as 4th/3rd removal for things that are bigger than 4hp, polymorph AND flamelance, and decide if its needed or not :D
No
Think about it as Polymorph + Fireblast for 1 mana less in those cases. and as you said if you want super control you might want more then 2 polys to deal with all the big stuff they throw at you. So this can be a compliment too polymorph instead of a rival.

Considering a control mage deck would probably be running 2x fireballs and 2x polymorphs(and probably 1 BGH), you're looking at adding this at a 6th(8th if we're tossing in 2x frostbolts as well) removal. At that point you're just looking at waaaaay too much removal in 1 deck. Add in the fact that it can't target face, and completely useless vs aggro and I just don't see this being used. Ask yourself how many warlocks play shadow bolt over dark bomb(or even soulfire).
I hope I'm wrong, but I just feel like while it will have situations 9/10 times you'd rather have a polymorph or a fireball in your hand. Also, like someone else mentioned, the card just looks boring. Seriously no panache or anything, just do 8 damage to a minion, period.

Most grinder/echo mages that I've seen only run one Fireball. If I were to run Flame Lance in a control mage, I'd probably run it over that Fireball, in all honestly. Sometimes, Flame Lance costing 1 less than Fireball+ping can be important, for example if it's turn 10 and you want to also drop a Sludge Belcher. I sometimes find Fireball lacking when playing control mage, so the 2 additional damage can actually be very helpful. As for it being boring, not every card needs panache. A simple, reliable option is more inviting for newer players than an overly complex one.
Not sure why this is being compared to assassinate; this is a card for mage, not rogue. Now polymorph, I get that comparison a bit more. Anyway, I could maybe see this being run as a 1 of in constructed in control. In arena, this card seems ok actually, since many players run a few big minions anyway.
I really don't know why I bother reading the forums when a new card comes out. EVERYONE misses the point. Stop being Sheeple. New cards are added so that dedk builders have more to tinker with. All those deck that you copy and paste after been thought out card for card. This is no different. Mark my words two or three weeks into Tgt when all the inivators are releasing their decklists you will see this card. My god people they've released about less than 1/4 of the cards and you are crying that this expansion in bad. What a community....
So which card are you going to cut to put this into your deck? Polymorph? Lol. Oh, you're going to run Polymorph, BGH AND Flame Lance? And you wonder why aggro keeps tearing you a new @@@hole.
This card is just strictly worse than Polymorph. You sure as hell wouldn't cut Polymorph for this card, nor would you really run this over Big Game Hunter.
8 damage sounds like a lot. However, Flame Lance is inflexible as it can only target minions, can't destroy through divine shield, can't cleanly deal with deathrattle minions and costs more mana than the better alternatives (Polymorph and Big Game Hunter). It's a decent card for control, but mages already have better options and it's a dead draw against aggro.
It'll see arena play and that's about it. It's not a terrible card by any means (we're looking at you, Demonfuse). It's just simply not good enough for constructed to warrant taking up a slot in your 30 card deck.
The card feels so dramatically outclassed and uninspired when we look at it in a bubble.... there MUST be something down the road that will make us go "ah, so that's what they had in mind".
What if they introduce a card similar to Axe Flinger, where something happens when the minion gets damaged? Like some sort of "Tiny Voodoo Doll", where the damage done to it is reflected to your opponent? Then you would have a 8 damage combo for 5 mana AND a flexible removal. Just an example.
Well obviously you can't use assassinate if you want to play mage. Also Bgh can kill minions with 7+ attack. So this card is used as an extra removal which also can kill lower than 8 life minions
Realisticaly speaking I don't see this card replacing any of the removal Mage already has but these are my 2 cents, flame lance would be a budget frendly version of BGH for Mages as it technicaly destroys all unbuffed minions that are currently played except for Ysera and Ancient of War, and mages mages can pop divine shields and there aren't 7+ minions that have it except the tank that sits in silence
I don't really play mage but I had occations with players that get around BGH by not having minions that exceed 6 attack or buff them just under BGH range, so I imagine that for mages the utility of flame lance will vary depending in the flexiblility it has in comparation to BGH on some matchups
This card comes very close to being strictly worse than Assassinate. And yes mages cannot play Assassinate but I see literally no one putting this in their deck. With Polymorph and Fireball being common/basic cards, everyone has access to a lot more effecient removal than this. It's okay for some cards to be bad but this adds to the game in no way at all, just like Demonfuse. Those two cards are the most disappointing ones so far(for me). But hey, a lot more to be revealed, hopefully Priest will get better cards! :D
:(
hunter buff...cant kill ghazilla :/
This card is pretty amazeballz

why the hate? ;(
its good for new players so they can do control stuff without spending too much dust and stuff
Ours is the Fury.

to be fair, most of the shit cards are commons; they havent revealed many other rarities(except legends I guess).
While GvG had good commons and rares, the epics and legends were much more lackluster
Assassinate
the amount of people taking this card seriously is way too damn high
If you can't beat them, join them

Ha, that can't even kill a Thaddius. How horrible.

just a boring card at the end of the day
whether it's good or bad remains to be seen, but on the surface, very boring
Is there any situation where this happens to be better than Assassinate?
