I don't believe Lava Shock will have a significant impact on the overload mechanics, simply because it is only 2 cards in 30. For Lava Shock to work, you need to: a) draw the Overload spell; b) draw Lava Shock; and c) cast them in the correct order. So you have some choices here: either you Overload you deck with Overload spells, and play with a really clunky deck; or you play very few Overload cards, and Lava Shock doesn't work as much as you want; or you play a mix of Overload and non-overload cards, and hope that RNG favors you and you have a god-like turn. This seems a really narrow situation to me, and is not something I will rely on. If they decided to rework the Overload mechanics not by changing how it functions but by adding more and more "Underload" cards then sure, we can explore the possibility. For now, I don't see Lava Shock as a game changing card.
In my opinion you described the card and decks it works perfectly. Only thing that I disagree is that I see the mix deck working with lava shock quite well. Ie.
In my opinion you don't need "godlike" turn to make lava shock viable in a deck like that. lava shock can just be used as tempo boost with the overload cards of the deck(T6 fireguard +lava into T7 boom, T5 Feral + lava into T6 elemental etc.). (Of course the dream of neptulon + storm and next turn feral + lava shock + 5 mana left would be quite nice ^^).
As you said the card is not a game changer, atleast right now. But it can still be viable options in specific decks that use overload cards and it will only get better as the game progresses(?) and we get more overload cards to get synergy with the card.
Unfortunately this is quite wrong. The shaman meta has shifted away from a heavily overload based deck. This is as a result of faster game tempos - shaman must keep up!. To consult this problem, lava shock will now be available. Now, if you are expecting your going to build an ALL based overload deck - jokes on you buddy. Lava shock will open up more interesting plays with nep, earth elemental, and i expect to see a lot of dunemaul.
Now, your "draw" order statement is totally incorrect because it removes ALL overloaded mana crystals, meaning, during that turn AND the next turn. Not to mention, MANY decks run zombie chow, with the intention of obtaining it off a mulligan.
Ultimately, in intelligent based Hearthstone play, you will see Lava Shock become a staple in virtually ALL decks. With the the new minion shaman gets, as well as, dunemaul, earth elemental, and neptulon, shaman as more than enough reasons to use this card.
Goodluck mate!!!
Are you sure you're quoting right guy? Can't really see how your points are arguments to my post as I'm pro lavashock.
A lategame combo card for a class with underwhelming card draw.
A low damage spell that can't even kill mechwarper or Northshire Clearic - and costs more than Arcane Shot or Holy Smite unless you combo it.
it's the kind of card you build decks around (overload decks with unbound elemental and such) i think it's a great card in the right deck and used properly it exceeds tempo gain of innervate.
Put it into an unbound elemental deck, 3-0 so far.. but haven't even drawn lava shock once lel.
I hope it's at least "good" because the Fireguard Destroyer is a top tier in the entire game level card and together they could push Shaman back into the meta, but if Lava Shock turns out to be a dud.. Hmm. Much less likely.
I am really liking Lava Shock so far. I replaced lightning bolts and haven't missed the extra damage much. In the meantime I free up an average of about 2 mana I'd say when I play it, and usually have a good target for its damage. Very enjoyable card, that makes planning out future turns even more of a challenge, but more rewarding too.
The idea is sound but the amount of overlord usually doesn't hurt enough that I'd waste 2 mana to get a weaker lightning bolt, it's one of those cards which I feel will get better if more overload is added in future sets.
Seriously nuba, if you don't see that card is good it doesn't mean it can't be good =p hate the card all you want but assuming "real" shaman players can't like this card is just stupid and arrogant. It might be shit but it's definetly worth exploring.
Oh I am not saying it is not worth exploring, every single card is. You can't give yourself the luxury of NOT testing something just because it has 95% of chances of being bad. I believe this card is horrible but only after massive playtest ill be able to proove (or disaproove) my theory. Initial tests prooved I am right so far, 2 damage is still too irrelevant for a class that has no consistent draws to make this playable

I assume you are using it in your crusher shaman deck. Am I right in my assumption? If so, how are you doing with the deck? And how does the deck fair against Face decks? I am having a really hard time against them with other classes.

1 earth shock can be replaced with lava shock, I dont see any other replacments for lava shock, even this one is not good.Lava shock itself will shine only in malygos burst deck. And this 1 earth for 1 lava is just when destroyers come, now lava is garbage.

The card SEEMS amazing... IF Shaman were Rogue (i.e. had a big draw engine).
Every card counts though in Shaman... the cost of a card is still a card, even if you unlock mana.
Though, I guess Druid kind of has the same problem, and they do pretty well. (If it weren't for Ancient of Lore...)
Yep, Crusher Shaman, and it's been doing very well so far. Only at rank 7 though. It does really well against Face Hunter (too much taunt for them), but something like Mech Mage can still be a problem. They get you low early and have the burn to finish you off.
Yeah I've been experimenting quite a bit and whilst I think that the traditional unbound deck is stronger than most people give it credit for even now, it is still a tier 3 deck and lava shock alone doesn't change that, so it's probably best to wait until Fireguard.
The problem I've found so far is that you hardly ever actually draw the card when you need it, Shaman's card draw is just so bad.
the only thing that really interests me about lava shock is if it makes earth elly playable. I do think fire guard destroyer is important. Turn 5 earth elly they Bgh and you clear up BGH with lava shock and follow up with fire guard on your turn six. I guess it's get you out of Jams when you have to unload all your overload stuff in one turn but usually when you do that you lose because you had to dump your hand or you already won.
Been playing my shaman deck today and I haven't lost with it since I added Lava Shock. It opens up the early game a lot more for shaman and allows you to handle aggro better. You can Turn 3 Feral Spirit into turn 4 Lava Shock a guy Flametongue Totem your taunts for 8. I know there will be times that one or both wolves are killed, but my point is the card really opens thing up for Shamans
This was posted a month ago where everyone tryied new stuff, the last idk 20 Shaman Players i saw on ladder this month, noone of them used it,but maybe ist cause i havent reached Legend yet......but i dont think so.
The problem with this card is simply the mana cost. With this mechanic, mana cost is everything. In fact, if it was a 0 mana spell that did no damage, it would be significantly better. It would basically be a less consistent, but potentially more powerful (since you can get much more than 2 mana) version of Innervate. An innervate mechanic in Shaman? Yes, please.
I'm hoping Blizzard redesigns this card to be a 1 mana, 1 damage spell, I think then it would be really effective. At 2 mana, though, it's just very awkward and very inconsistent. We saw with Soulfire what a huge difference 1 mana is on a tempo spell, and with this spell in particular the damage is more or less irrelevant, so I'd gladly trade 1 damage for 1 mana. But, realistically I know Blizzard is stubborn and will probably never change this card. It's a shame, too, because this is exactly the sort of mechanic Shaman needed.
I think it heard this from Chakki when he was doing the set review with admirable and ekkop. What he said was that the problem isn't so much with the card, it is with the overload mechanic as a whole. The point of it was to allow you to play powerful spells early by making up for it next turn. However when you look at the cards for their total mana cost, shaman cards just aren't good enough. Lightning storm costs more than consecrate and has roughly the same effect, feral wolfs is not so much better than muster that you would sacrifice playing a 4 drop, earth elemental gets punished HARD by BGH, Forked lightning is a worse cleave, Lava Burst is a worse Fireball, Neptulon is a worse ragnerous/ysera/Dr. Boom/big legendary. Doomhammer is comparable to gorehowl because it has that burst potential...but that's about it.
TL;DR...all the other classes have better things for the same total mana cost and things that are good at the same mana cost ex: feral spirits trades with spider tank evenly but cost you 5 mana to your opponent's 3.

16 - 6 with my new combo deck with 2x Lava Shock.
Tempo card :) Loving the fact that on T3 i can clean the board and then on T4 additional 2dmg + Annoy-o-tron. Facehunter can s**k my penis :P
