Mage remains the most counterable class in the game. Can be outhealed, outtempo'd, outteched, just sits there in the middle of the curve, smashing people who either don't care to deck against it or have no clue how to use their deck vs mage, whichever.
It's good that it has a strong t1-ish deck, those cancer priests need to have something that can rustle their jimmies.
Yeah... those damn Cancer Priests that waited through 3 years of near unplayability to have a place in the meta, while Mage and Druid are the 2 classes that have always had a place in the meta.
We finally can compete and now we are considered Cancer?... ok.(Big Priest on the other hand is a different story screw that archetype)
I have no problem against secret Mage. Usually they just fatigue themselves with Aluneth. Granted, I'm usually playing Quest Priest, but I haven't noticed any particular difficulties with my Secret Hunter or Elemental-Jade Druid either.
Love argument with "Tech cards".... Would you really put bullshit card like Eater of Secrets to counter 1 class - Mage? And what about other matchups, like zoo or rogue? Eater is dead card and your deck is much weaker.
Tempo mage is terribly designed deck - They can SMORc you, lose all cards and then refill hand with Aluneth. 56 direct spell damage ignoring taunts? Absolute bullshit. And the worst thing? We do not have enough heals to do something with it.
Boohoo, ill try to explain one more time. First of all, try to accept that hearthstone is some sort of a rock paper scissors game. Secret mage is pretty strong because it counters a lot of greedy decks with zero defense against spells (heals, armor eater of secrets).
Try to play a good old taunt druid with the armor spells. You wil lose lot of games against, but you will win almost every game against mage.
I ranked from 17 to rank 9 with defensive/healing fun decks like deathrattle dragon priest, big armor druid, evolve shaman. I lost almost zero games to mage unless they were really lucky with starts like mana wyrm, coin, kabal lacky, ruins.
Hearthstone started to be "Rock-paper-scissors" in Gadgetzan :) Reno > Pirates > Jades > Reno.... Back in days of Naxx, BRM, TGT, Hearthstone was not like this. There were face decks ( Face hunter ), Combo decks ( Freeze mages, Double combo druids ), Control decks ( Warrior, priest, paladin.. ) and Midrange decks ( Dragon priests, Midrange hunters ) - But every deck COULD beat other decks. For example, i played Face hunter and Freeze mage. There were few hard matches ( Face hunter vs. Control priest, Freeze mage vs. Control warrior ), but there was not match that was automatically lost ( Jades vs. Renolock, for example ). Meta was KINDA BALANCED, it just depeneded on your skill.
Yeah. Mage is becoming new rogue quest. Ignoring your actions and just playing secrets and face damage. Ocasionally freezing your board not worrying about dying cause of ice block. This class need some redefinition and putting some spells to hall of fame maybe fireball only for minions targeting. You also forgot about the new secret causing you huge face damage and killing your minion. This class is annoying to play against. There is no solid tech against it.
Not are point of comparation, quest rogue give you at least all the early game free. Mage secret destroy all you early game

I really didn't see much Secret Mage at those Ranks, and until Rank 5 a majority of Secret Mage players were not even playing optimal lists.
Heals or Armor can certainly help and Eater of Secrets can too at the expense of having to draw it and dropping your win rate dramatically against every other deck being a 4 mana 2/4 that does nothing.

I need a Reno!
I'm holding out for a Reno till the morning light.
He's gotta fast and he's gotta be strong and he's gotta be topdecked just right!
Made a test run with Secret Mage today, and the only threat seemed to be fatigue damage from Aluneth. ;)
But jokes aside, the win rates seem to be dropping on Metastats, probably due to the growing popularity of decks like Aggro Paladin. Unless you're lucky with your Primordial Glyphs, the deck is weak against those kind of decks.
i really dont understand what are team 5 thinking when give mage a both strong minions curve and ton of burn spells like now .At least taunt will help you against aggro/tempo deck but how you can play around mage spells ?
