Greetings! Does anyone know if Blizzard has clarified this matter?
Let's say I'm playing a deck with several of his "servants" in it, but I'm not actually running C'Thun himself. Will I still get the bonus effects of something like Ancient Shieldbearer or Klaxxi Amber-Weaver for having my C'Thun counter at 10 or more if he was never included in my deck?
Erm, why would you get those bonuses? The main point of playing C'Thun minions was to gain their effects, but as a price, you have to actually PLAY C'Thun and his followers in the first place. No, you wouldnt get the bonus effects as C'Thun is absent from your deck
Cards like Klaxxi Amber-Weaver get their buffs only if your C'Thun has an attack of 10 or higher. So if you don't have C'Thun in your deck that means it doesn't get it's attack buffed, therefore cards that benefit from C'Thun having 10+ Attack won't work.
'wherever he is' doesn't state it is anywhere other than your collection, and the buffs apply to your hero, not c'thun himself, so maybe.
and it's not as silly as it sounds. some c'thun cards are worth considering without c'thun himself, and if the buffs do do something he should appear in the corner. so there's some mind games that could be played, with your opponent thinking they need to play around him, even though he doesn't exist!
Might actually be yes, since it says wherever he is; this can also mean even if not in your deck. Simply because the game mechanic is as following:
The buffs actually NOT buff C'thun, it buffs the player with an aura-like effect. So you gain an aura that buffs c'thun with it. If the buff reach +4 attack the cards above works. Only if c'thun is summoned, it affects him, simply because the aura only affects minions with the exact name: C'thun or maybe tied to the card effect.
So even if you for example entomb an enemy C'thun, it also gets the buffs by the spell (except the effect resets when C'thun is played, but i doubt it).
Only question is: Is C'thun even silenceable, since the Aura isn't? If yes, then the effect is tied to the card text, if no, then the aura affects the cardname itself. This is very important, because silence would maybe not affect him at all.
In the end: It might work, try it out against the innkeeper, or wait until disguised toast made a video about it. This is really an interresting question, since some c'thun cards are quite good while c'thun might not always be the best sometimes; especially when you only want to play a few c'thun buffs (since a 2 mana vanilla 2/3 isn't really exciting)
In the end a c'thun deck plays a lot of vanilla minions: not bad, but if C'thun is the last card in your deck, or in your opening hand, it's a very dead card.
The question is not stupid as it does seem the C'Thun buffs are not tied to the card itself, so you might actually get a "C'Thun counter" even without actually having a C'Thun.
I mean, it all comes down to how Blizzard implemented it, and we've surely been surprised with that kind of thing.
Yes you will, since the C'thun buffs are on the player. If you're not running C'Thun in your deck, then you buff C'Thun, your C'Thun does get the buffs, even if he's not in your deck. If his power is 10 or greater, you will get the relevant triggers. If your opponent plays C'Thun and you Convert it or use Gang Up on it, then you will have a C'Thun with your own buffs, not your opponents. If you Unstable Portal to find C'Thun, your C'Thun will have your buffs on it.

I recall hearing somewhere that the C'Thun buffs are an aura effect on the player, so it shouldn't really matter if he actually exists, right?
The reason I ask is because there are going to be some great C'Thun abilities after he's at 10, but what if I don't want to rely on that one card for late-game burst and would rather just play some crazy strong midgame stuff with a different lategame?

Exactly. C'thun is nice, but fricking slow, and if you draw it in your mulligan, then you play with a dead card until turn 10. And if a C'thun is actually as powerful as people think is not really sure. Simply because many c'thun activators are actually solid, vanilla cards. But there's the problem: they are vanilla-proof in most cases yes, but is that today really enough? If this would work, we would have decks with vanilla-minions and an insane endgame.
C'thun can end the game, but maybe another kind of endgame have a more steadier winrate. Still the effects from them are pretty good, Ancient Shieldbearer for example.

This might be the one question that makes "There are no stupid questions" an idiotic statement.

What if your C'Thun dies and you play one of those?
