Hey, I'd like to craft a new deck with whatever dust I have left for this expansion and really torn between Big Shaman and the Khadgar Mage.
I'd like it to be competitive but I'm more focused on having fun. Right now playing a lot of thief rogue for that reason alone. Also don't really care much about the other classes just yet.
So which one should I go for? Which one will be maybe viable for longer or better overall? Both feel like kind of a similiar playstyle tbh
They're both pretty fun and they do somewhat similar things but play differently. Big Shaman is a lot better against aggro but it doesn't have the overwhelming value of the mage. Mage has the better place in the meta I think, and it has the better winrate overall so if raw power is a big factor you probably want to go with the mage.
Personally Big Shaman is is probably my favorite deck to play in RoS so far, and when I look at the win rates I can't help but think people aren't playing it effectively and a lot of people aren't playing the refined version, and i still think there is room for refinement. How can people not have positive win rates against warrior with this deck? Hsreplay has 40-45% against warrior but my personal winrate is around 60%. You have to pair your morphers and eurekas with your voodoo/spirit spells so they can't clear, not just slam morpher on 5. Even the big shaman vs khadgar mage on hsreplay is pretty low for big shaman, and the mage is favored for sure but unless they highroll giant into conjure while you don't have hex/scheme yet then it's a decent matchup.

Kinda leaning towards the Big Shaman but still have some doubts, will be happy to hear more opinions.
Also whats the refined version that you mentioned?

Well there is one version that adds an overload package of lighting bolt, zap, and Likkim for more board control or just to push some extra damage. I haven't played that one a lot but it feels pretty good.
A lot of lists still use totemic smash over earth shock and I think thats generally wrong.
There are some flexible tech spots like big bad voodoo / witches brew / etc. In my opinion you don't need the brew, maybe a one of, but voodoo is core.
There is still some experimentation with what minion package you actually run. You can cut the value generators like Ysera/Archmage for better aggro matchup but you need the value to beat warriors and stuff, so I think that balance is still being worked out.
While the mage deck is definitely more competitive, you can reach pretty decent legend ranks with big shaman so it's a solid t2/3 deck. Maybe consider how much dust you'd have to spend on each and the value of the cards needed to be crafted on their own if you're having trouble deciding.
I pretty much miss all of the epics on both decks and got all the legendaries. Really is a tough a choice. I guess it comes down to mage being stronger but big shaman being more fun to play?
As I had previously said, big shaman is my favorite deck to play this expansion but mage is a lot of fun too.
Kind of depends what playstyle you like. Mage is just slapping down minions every turn, plays kind of like spiteful decks where you just slam unreasonable amounts of stats down and win based off that.
Big shaman is more like big priest where you're using spells to control the board until you can cheat some minions out and instead of resurrecting them you hit them with big bad voodoo or ancestral spirit.
you can add me if you want to try the decks out a bit.

Really leaning towards the Big Shaman now. Slapping big minions on board is super fun but I also really dig the control aspect of the Shaman and being able to handle aggro better. Thanks for the valuable info and I'd love to try the decks out a bit whenever you can. I'm on EU Shakey #2976
If you're really sold on one of these two deck, you'll have to consider which one fits your preferred play style.
Both are heavily reliant on RNG to not bone you harder than an elephant during breeding season. Right now big shaman is ok but gets brutalized by rogue. Control shaman has better odds if you can roll with the rng and make it work while managing a consistently big hand. Khadgar mage is great if you know how to start your first few turns doing nothing but ping, pray, and Book of Specters.

Rage quitting: the best way to ensure your opponent knows they beat a giant baby.
Well that is getting boned pretty hard, but I do have a love-hate relationship with RNG. I'm okay with having unfavored match ups and like I said I want whatevers the most fun. Also if its capable of at least hitting rank 5 its cool
I would say shaman is harder to play but is much more flexible and mage is potentially stronger but leads to polarized matchups. What I mean by polarized is that favorable matchups like warrior are easily winnable but unfavorable ones like token druid are easily losable early in the game. IMO mage relies too much on conjurer's calling so all in all I would suggest shaman.

Big decks usually dont last well in the meta as they usually dont have the tools to survive multiple expansions, big priest being the glowing exception. Conjuring mage is really strong and will likely be playable and good for the foreseeable future
Khadgar mage is more competitive than big shaman, it's utterly busted IMO. I rarely beat it with a control deck.
Big Shaman looks like a lot of fun though, but I still think Mage is the better pick
I would recommend the Mage deck for sure. I think there's a few ways to build it as well. The dragon one was strongest the other day, but may have changed now.
Do you have the Khadgar hero and Dalaran cardback? ha ha. if so, you got the full package, man.

I'd say go with mage. It has less flexibility, but I think it's more consistent (and how can you not love making a turn 4 Mountain Giant into a turn 5 TWO Mountain Giants?!?). It should help you ladder with fewer opportunities to see your RNG backfire. It's particularly powerful when your opponents are aggro with slow starting draws. I watched a buddy of mine eviscerate a zoolock with mage and he never got to make any of the big plays like Khadgar + Calling or Calling + Mountain Giant. His build ran two MC Techs and the 5-drop dragons from the last expansion that deal 1 damage to the board (the name escapes me, something Scorcher).
It'll reward you more often than not with knowing the possible outcomes of your rng in your minion generating / multiplying spells. Best of luck, hopefully I see you on ladder soon!
Anyway I can probably squeeze some wild legendaries that I have no intention of using to craft both and completely drain my dust. Should I go for it and end my frustration or is that a bit of an overkill?

Both decks are a lot of fun and have quite some strategic choices to offer.
I really think both with stay around in tier 3 + for the whole year.
It is very hard to decide which one is cooler, but I went for Big Shaman :-)
both are fun decks but khadgar mage has more potential
it's currently tier 2 and people are winning tournaments with it

personally, I would choose big shaman just because I love shaman so, so much. but I have no experience with either.
Rejoice, for even in death, you have become children of Thanos.
Conjurer mage is far more competitive than big shaman. Fun aspect is up to you but if you also want to win some games... Go with mage.
I pretty much miss all of the epics on both decks and got all the legendaries. Really is a tough a choice. I guess it comes down to mage being stronger but big shaman being more fun to play?
What cards do you need?
Big Shaman (check my build in my signature) is an expansive decks to craft. Mage you can cheap it out a bit if you want to try.
I'd vouch for Shaman since Mage gets killed by aggro.

I pretty much miss 2x Muckmorpher 2x Haunting Visions 2x Far Sight 2x Big Bad Archmage and 1 Big Bad Voodoo
Kind of a lot and I can craft all of that but just that.

It's not rng if you call - Amaz
Very informative, thanks!
