apparently, changing from a late game strategy vs early / mid where you can just get some auto-attack minions / self buffed minions is the way to go. up at 7400 and climbing :)
Yes the game is back to just lucking out on tavern rolls and staying low tiers in general to be safe. Builds can no longer be assembled without massive luck. The game is also way too fast. No more saurolisk, plus the canon card make games insanely fast and randomly one-sided.
A damage cap will always go a long way to preventing bad meta shifts but blizzard... they... they aren't too quick on the draw. At least they fix BG faster than they fixed arena.

The game has always been “lucking out on tavern rolls.” Getting triples early safeguards your climb to 5, and hitting minions within your strategy also does the same. Rerolling and attack RNG will always be the biggest factors so if you dislike that then it’s just not for you.
Cannon admittedly adds too much early game damage yes, but as far as the reroll RNG thing don’t even pretend like that’s something new lol

It's worse than ever as they progressively have removed every card that let you make a build until later on. In the first iteration, cobalt let you make builds on 3 for a while. Saurolisk let you make builds on 1. Canon and Macaw let you stay on 2 longer.
Now it's really just "take whatever you can and hope you can triple on tavern 5".
The high damage / low HP is what causes this. So that is not something new true, but it's worse than even at this point, though people are moving away from pirates from what I can see and into murlocs. I'm now seeing 4+ players at 9k mmr going for murlocs. Megasaur makes it so you just beat every build with murlocs, so people risk it.
Again here megasaur needs to go for this reason. It for free makes murlocs the best build even if without the shields you could scale their stats to win a lobby anyway. With megasaur you just blow everyone out stupidly, if Bob lets you win. lol
There's also no comeback mechanism in the game. If you start behind, too bad. You can't come back into the game. Nothing you pick or do will outscale others being ahead. You just have to hope the combat RNG and Bob favors you. There's no time where you can go "Oh, I'm behind, I better do X". It's basically always wrong. Just never deviate from the plan and hope the RNG saves you.
This is why a damage cap is a non-negociable feature to fix this game mode. To me it's a complete no-brainer. Who ever complains that games go too long? Who ever complains that they were taken out too late? Who likes it when Boat spawns +14 damage? Or when you get exact lethal from tokens?
Literally none of these events add anything to the game but frustration for players. That's basically the hallmark of bad design: It adds nothing to your game, just takes away from it.

Insofar as 1st place goes, sure. But I don't think that's true in terms of top 4. If you get off to a bad start and try to stay "on curve" with tavern upgrades and look for the perfect, late game scaling minions, you're probably gonna be first out. There is an art to knowing when to fold 'em and assembling a low ceiling comp that can at least help you outlast four other players.

There is no "low ceiling comps' anymore that have a shot at top 4 except maybe mechs, but nowhere near as consistently as when Cobalt was in the game. Then you could force mechs on 3 and get consistant top4.
Now you no longer can do this. The game is just pure random. Canon is also a complete and total design failure, along with like 10 other disasters they don't remove from the game. God damn they suck lol.
Let's keep in mind that this is the guy who thinks: -Murlocs win every lobby, but they are not viable at all. But also Megasaur is a problem. -Illidan is a top tier hero. - Only now has randomness been a thing in BG.
Any BG thread is basically his own personal salt thread.

Murlocs is not a viable force / strategy, no. Megasaur is a problem card for overall game/tribe balance. Ilidan was good before they nerfed macaw and saurolisk. Now he's useless again. People also figured that pirates suck, so you counter them less. Never said game was never random. Just now it's more random than ever. Faster games, better players, canon and no low-tier builds make it so.

What guy? Me? I never implied such thing.
OT: back to 8000+. So the game is to slowly rank up and get value minions, not hoping to build on something from low tier, rather switch around 4-5 and. I've had games where I was standing at Tier 3, playing Mechs, or Pirates. Still, Murlocs can win against most of the comps. The ultimate broken comp is the parrot beast one.
Honestly this meta has been harder for me to adapt too. I dipped, started climbing again, but skipped a few days, dipped upon playing again then started climbing again. I think that the meta is a bit more dynamic with one excluded tribe, a bit harder to adapt to. now that I'm getting a game or 2 in each day I keep climbing .

Cool meta....can't even survive long enough to get to 10 gold.
Good times....
