Not sure if this belongs here, since this is my first time starting a thread and even doing anything related to the forums, so I figured I would start here, and if I get told to take it elsewhere, I will.
Earlier, a friend and I were talking about mathematical inconsistencies in Hearthstone, such as Stubborn Gastropod vs Webweave, and Silverback Patriarch vs Druid of the Swarm. In my most recent Tumblr post, I also mentioned it, but I figured I would get more responses here. What do you think of these little inconsistencies, and do you think they really affect Hearthstone in any sort of meaningful way, such as in deck building or in a match?
Personally, I don't think they are a huge deal, but I feel they probably are affecting deck building and matches in minute ways, that slowly build on top of each other to form a bigger issue of itself.

If you need a Wild deck that is fun, competitive, high skill, and low RNG, check out my Highlander Malygos Deck!
If you can hide the webweave spiders behind a taunt it is better than them having taunt themselves. The card isn't very good though, it's an arena card. Druid doesn't have hard removal apart from Naturalize so it was their attempt to give them a replacement for Mulch I guess.
Silverback Patriarch has been powercreeped out of existence many times already, no-one ever played it. It just pollutes the discover pool for Stonehill Defender (which costs the same and has the same stats). Tar Creeper is also powercreeped version of it.
I think those mathematical inconsistencies are intended and very essential to the game.
The difference between Silverback Patriarch and Druid of the Swarm is, that one is a neutral card and the other a class card. Keep in mind, that class cards are always slightly better than neutral cards.
Let me explain: Taunt isnt a very rare effect in the druid class and a main part of the class identity, so naturally Druid has better Taunt minions, that neutral. So the Taunt option of Druid of the Swarm is just simply better than Silverback Patriarch.
While poisonous is a kind of hard removal, which is historically very rare in druid. Therefore the poisonous option of Druid of the Swarm is not much better, maybe even worse, than Stubborn Gastropod.
I think, thats the reason for the inconsistency you mentioned or did i get you wrong?

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
I'm not talking about Class vs Neutral or anything like that, just the inconsistencies in general. I know the examples I provided aren't the best, but they do somewhat demonstrate what I am trying to get at with it. I just mean, that it seems a little inconsistent. I don't really know how to explain what I mean, but I do understand the point you made, and it did somewhat answer a portion of the question for me.

I didn't mean for it to be about newer vs older cards, but I see the point you've made, and it also makes sense to me, and it does somewhat answer the question for me.

And I wouldn't say Stubborn Gastropod vs Webweave is a good comparison. Taunt can often be a downside when it comes to poisonous minions (because you can't 'hide' them behind other taunts), and Webweave only costs one card, while two gastropods would obviously cost two cards.
And Silverback Patriarch? That is a neutral card while Druid of the Swarm is a druid card. And like my example, Blizzard really doesn't care about printing simply better versions for cards.
Maybe there would ever be a universe where Evil Heckler is so good that you want Booty Bay Bodyguard alongside it. Maybe it can be worse because priests can copy it from your hand, and the crappy stats are more of a downside to them.

EDIT: I think Kurt Godel one-upped you in the finding mathematical inconsistencies department though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gödel's_incompleteness_theorems

Or maybe, Blizzard just doesn't care.
Fuck cubelock
I honestly have no fucking clue what this post is about. Are you saying that every card should be as good as another card?
I feel this is a post about power creep from someone who has no idea what power creep is
