If you look at Cult Sorcerer as a Kobold Geomancer that just has 1 more attack, it starts to look really bad. That's a bad argument and you know it. One or two more stats to a card change it drastically.
Nightbane gives 3 bodies, 3 potential targets for your opponent, 3 potential targets for your buffs, 3 damage pings if left unchecked and helps in staying relevant to the board early on. The technician is terrible because aggro and control can ignore it all day.
Both have pros and cons which depend on the situation and, thus, the meta.
Blackwing Technician is much better in trading against 3 and 4 mana midrange minions since it will likely survive (in particular against 4/3s it's really good). It's better against pings as well.
Nightbane Templar has more (but weaker) bodies which is very helpful against flood decks or if you play one yourself.
With a living Steward of Darkshire for example the templar will be really good. Against Ravaging Ghoul it's worse than the technician. I personally prefer Blackwing technician and in my Dragon Paladin deck (which I admittedly not play very often, I prefer wild midrange Pala) I have two technicians and one templar.
In my dragon Deck, i play 2X Technician and 1X Nightbane.
Technician is good in any situation. Night bane is bad against Warrior,Druid, really bad against Hunter.
