Hello everyone, and here is my hunter deck. I think this deck is fantastic, and can do well against almost every deck. If this deck gets more up votes I will do a more in-depth guide but for now this its what I will write.
About Myself:
I am a legend player. Currently have gotten top 100 this season and am aiming for a top 50 finish. I am currently #486 LEGEND while writing this (I took a screenshot if people would like me to post) and am currently using this deck to climb. I deck build and have gotten to top 10 legend before, with one of my famous decks YOGG tempo mage. I love the new set and am looking to become a streamer potentially, but I need a following before I can make this a realty.
Stream:
My twitch link is: https://www.twitch.tv/ibeatu_hearthstone
I WILL BE STREAMING DECKS LIKE THESE AND MANY OTHERS ON HIGH LEVEL LEGEND, Please leave a follow and I will start streaming immediately, thanks <3
Card Choices:
So lets go over the tech cards that I think are must for this deck:
Golakka Crawler: This is a must play in the deck for the simple reason that pirates are so dominant in the meta, as well as the synergy the card has with your beast cards. The most important reason however is how popular pirate warrior is in todays meta, and honestly pirate warrior is a better deck than hunter, however, playing Crawler allows for you to have a fantastic win rate, (I think its around 75% against pirate, as they only win if they curve perfectly and I draw poorly). To put a good comparison between Pirate and Hunter, Hunter is like Eaglehorn Bow and Warrior is Fiery War Axe, and as you see, warrior has the clear advantage, therefore you need to play Golakka Crawler.
Dire Wolf Alpha: I think this is another card that works very well with the deck but is an obvious tech card, as I would say the majority of hunter decks now do not play this card, so why play it? I like it for the synergy with Unleash the Hounds, Rat Pack, Alleycat and the obvious beast synergy it has with the deck. It also allows for more damage and great combos if played right. I can go more in-depth about placements but I will only do that if this decks gets more hype, and people ask for it.
I will do any other cards that people request, but I think these two are the most important tech cards that differ my build from others.
Cards that look good on paper, but just do not make the cut:
Hungry Crab: On paper, I thought this card was going to be very good for the deck. Its a beast, which is great synergy, as well as having a decent stat line for a 1 drop. Of course, the main reason to play it is because of the amazing battlecry against murloc decks, so why not play it? The reason you should not play it is for one, Murloc Pally is one of the worst match ups for you, so playing a card that is only good against a very bad matchup is not smart, and the other match up it is good against is aggro druid, and if they have any Murlocs they would have gotten them out from Finja, and by then it is GG. So BAD CARD!
Ravasaur Runt: At first, I thought, wow this card will be amazing with the deck. On paper, it seems like on awesome two drop that synergies amazing with the deck. I was playing this card instead of Wolf, but let me tell you, MISTAKE! The card is usually a 2/2 which is bad stats (compare it to crawler which is at least a 2/3 which is reasonable) and the adapt is usually underwhelming. PASS
Bittertide Hydra: I think this is the most reasonable card out of the three that could be played in this deck. I think if I were to cut any cards in the deck for this card it will be high mane, but in my opinion high mane is just so much better than this card in my opinion. So in my opinion, I would pass but its more reasonable than the other two.
So, why play Hunter?:
I think this is a fantastic question, why play Hunter when there are arguably better decks in the meta?
HERO POWER: I think the hero power of hunter is amazing for the build you play it in. I have won countless games just due to the constant 2 damage the hero power allows. Of course, the hero power has a drawback of not being able to play a control hunter, as the most effective way to play Hunter is more of a aggro version like this deck (However I deem this to be a midrange hunter due to the high mane)
Jewled Macaw & Crackling Razormaw: OMG, the new cards from the set make hunter a COMPLETELY viable deck, if not one of the best decks you can play. Macaw is the better card, as the value of the card is INSANE. Its a good one drop that gives you ANY random beast, which is SO amazing. I have gotten King Crush out of it which one me the game, Kodo which kills Finja on turn 5, the value is INSANE. Also, do not forget Razormaw, as a good curve with hunter can pretty much be GG.
MVPs of the deck:
In my opinion the MVPs of the deck has to go to....
[cardTundra Rhino[/card] & Scavenging Hyena: These cards are INSANE! Hyena can win games on its own if played correctly, as you need to know the match up and know if he can be killed, because if he can't, the stats will pile up and it will be gg. Do NOT forget about Rhino, as this card is simply AMAZING. Play it and high mane 2/2 can charge, play it on turn 7 with hyena and just kill him, the value is unbelievable. Both of these cards are so good its disgusting.
Match-Ups/Mulligans for the Match-Ups:
Aggro Druid:
Match-Up is favored to you as the only way Aggro can beat you is by a early living mana, a crazy Finja play, or a INSANE curve that is VERY unlikely.
Mulligan: Keep Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Golakka Crawler and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion
Jade Druid:
Even match up, as if they curve right and have armor they will beat you, but if they don't you will win most games. So even.
Mulligan: Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Jewled Macaw and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Hunter:
Hunter mirror is just who is the better player/ who gets better cards
Mulligan: Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Jewled Macaw and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Freeze Mage:
Match up is favored for you, as the only way Freeze mage wins is if they open up all of there early minions if they do not, they will lose to you.
Mulligan: Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Jewled Macaw and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Murloc Pally:
Very unfavored for you, as the Murloc pally is very hard matchup. The value of the pally cards are just so great, and kind of smash hunter unless they draw poor.
Mulligan: Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Jewled Macaw and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Priest Control/Deathrattle:
Favored for you, as only was Priest stands a chance is if they get cleric turn 1.
Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Jewled Macaw and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Quest Rogue/Miracle Rogue:
Since you can't tell which one you are playing against, you have to mulligan for both. The matchup is even for quest, as they only beat you if they open great, and for miracle it is favored for you.
Mulligan for both: Keep Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Golakka Crawler and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion
Elemental Shaman:
Have not played too many of them on ladder, so I can't have a true statistical answer for the win rates, but personally I think you have a good chance since shaman is very passive early, while thats when you push damage.
Mulligan: Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Jewled Macaw and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Zoo Lock:
Favored for you, as Warlock has to take 2 damage to the face with his hero power to even stand a chance, next.
Mulligan: Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Jewled Macaw and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Last but not least....
PIRATE WARRIOR/TAUNT WARRIOR:
Pirate warrior is your EASIEST match up since you play crawler while taunt warrior is your HARDEST match up. For pirate, it should be easy unless they open nuts, for taunt, you need to push damage face and be wary of your board since you do not want to just fill the board as they have easy board clear.
Mulligan for both: Keep Alleycat, Crackling Razormaw, Golakka Crawler and possibly Scavenging Hyena, Houndmaster, Animal Companion, Kindly Grandmother
Well, that concludes my guide and if you have any questions ask them down below. ALSO I will be posting more guides and more deck lists for every class if this deck gets more attention, AND I will try to stream, so if any of you guys want to watch me stream this deck or many others in TOP legend, let me know. THANKS AGAIN!
CHANGES:
-2 Crawler
+2 Fiery Bat
I made a change in the deck, I took out both Crawlers for 2 Fiery Bats, and I think it is a good change.
I also run a hunter deck, but I've noticed that Giant Wasp can be pretty good against taunt warrior, or any deck that runs lots of taunts. It's especially good when you already have Tundra Rhino on the board. I find it's more versatile than Deadly shot most of the time.
don't reccomdn, the taunt one is better
I used this deck and went up against a druid who turn 1 innervate eggnapper turn 2: 2 enchanted raven, turn 3 power of wild + mark of wild and by turn 4 i lost. Turn 1 and turn 2 I got dead hand. So yea, a favoured mathup is a loss.
You cant say that a favoured match up is a loss with a sample size of 1. That was one game, he had a good opener deal with it this happens alot in hearthstone just because a favoured matchup is a loss doesn't mean it isn't a favoured match up, its hearthstone theres a lot of RNG involved things like this happen.
You said yourself that you got a bad opening hand. What do you want to do, have nothing but 1 mana cards in your deck? Go try that and report back with what rank you end up at.
Favored doesn't mean "Never loses to"
Hey, what do you think of Vicious Fledgling in this deck
never tried it, but i guess you replace rat pack for the card if u were to try it
what are yu trying to say? I wrote it poorly? well thanks !
Only thing I remember from english classes was one professor telling me, "Why do you specify that it's your opinion? Don't you think I'm smart enough to know it's your opinion? Whose else would it be?"
XD
I'm so amped up right now - I just hit legend for the first time and I've been playing since beta. I went 15-1 from rank 3 to legend with the decklist exactly as posted! Thanks man!!!
don't forget to up vote the deck :)
This deck struggles hard against control/silence priest if you don't have a good curve. Almost impossible to win the SO MANY perfect answers to your threats.
I am currently at rank 9 and my w/l ratio against priest is 1-8
Just one tip: if you are havinga hard time building some pressure on your opponent, always keep Animal Companion in your mulligan, otherwise you'll have your hand filled with dead cards like Scavenging Hyena without combo or Unleash the Hounds or Savannah Highmane (till turn 6 you prob lost completely the board control).
Thanks for this!! I've been stuck on rank 2 using a version with x2 Nesting Roc and x2 Deadly Shot in place of x2 Dire Wolf Alpha, 1x Eaglehorn Bow and 1x Unleash the Hounds, and I gotta say this is much faster and is closing out games just in time for me. I've pushed up to rank 1/2 stars, hoping to finish the push for legend tonight!
Thanks for the guide too - I underestimated the power of Dire Wolf Alpha - so good with your rhino when you have rats and grandmas on the board.
Yes, and with dire wolf theres a whole another layer about where to place minors, which even I mess up. The hunter deck is deceivingly hard, but with this build and played correctly, you can win games. Do not forget to up vote :)
Upvoted! I've used timberwolves in the past for extra boost, but the dire wolf feels better for curve and also works on houndmaster and baby plants. Not sure why some think it's a weak card, it's made all the difference so far for me!
Just hit legend a few minutes ago with this deck - came back to say thanks again and wish I could upvote twice! Cheers!
thanks a lot! Next season ill download software so I can get an exact win rate
haha nice, IMO taunt is super hard but if your doing well nice. Don't forget to up vote :)
