Coming up with the deck

I wanted to complete the Maiev quest but I almost exclusively play Wild. At first I tried Control Warrior, which worked very well until rank 21, where I realised that there isn't enough good late game minions in Standard that fit CW. I went back to my favourite class, Warlock. As Renolock and most of Demonlock synergies have rotated out and I'm missing multiple cards from Handlock, I had to try and make a Zoolock of some sort.

Ever since Primalfin Lookout had been released, I had been thinking it was a very interesting card, maybe enough to make me play some murloc deck. As I was building the Discolock, I noticed that card in my collection, and it was all clear: I was going to build a Zoolock with both discard synergies and murlocs.

This deck I've posted here isn't what I'm playing or what I built in Hearthstone, as I'm missing both legendaries and a few other cards. This deck is more like a goal, what I'm trying to build out of my deck. Anyway, I managed to escape rank 21, so at least budget Disco Murlock is better than CW in this meta - which is not a lot. But it does in my opinion prove that it's viable enough to have fun with.

To be serious tho' - although I'm at low ranks due to not having much time to play, my win rate seems to be better than last season with Renolock.

Mulligans

In general, go for either discard synergies or murlocs. Playing a Grimscale Oracle on turn 1 and two Malchezaar's Imps on turn 2 with no discard cards in your hand is not a nice situation.

So which one to go for? Most of the time what your hand has more of and which one seems to have a better curve. Usually I prefer murlocs, because they have a faster and more solid early game, while discard stuff is my mid-late game. Against classes with a ping hero power I might go for discard if I have the Malchezaar's Imp in my hand and am missing a Murloc Tidecaller.

Game plan

  • If you went for discard in your starting hand, try to get maximum value of your discard synergies and try to discard a Silverware Golem.
  • If you went for murlocs, you're basically playing midrange-ish zoo with murlocs.
  • The deck isn't designed to be played as a face deck, but neither are you playing control. Trade when
    1. the trade is favourable and
    2. it prevents the opponent from making favourable trades.

Updates

8.4.2017: Created, removed Seadevil Stinger shortly as I noticed I had forgot Finja

9.4.2017: Needed more 1-drops, especially ones that can't be pinged. Replaced DoA:s (way too slow) with Flame Imps.
