Hello guys!
This is my current idea how can we make the Warlock Quest work. The deck has a quite low curve with a few powerful midgame minions and the Nether Portal serve as a finisher.
Mulligan: keep the Quest and full mulligan for Flame imp, Voidwalker and Mistress of Mixtures.
Early game: You want to play the Quest on T1-2 depending on your opponents opening (maybe you can play it even on T3 but try to play it ASAP so you can start to discard. Generaly you should play the Quest and two 1-drops in the first two turns so you don't fall extremly behind on tempo.
Midgame: With Lakkari Felhound and Doomguard you have really good tools to get on the board if you are a little bit behind and you can pressure your oppoment if you already have board control. (Both minions protect your early game minions in an active or passive way)
Late game: After the midgame you should have the board, if not then you keep pumping out overstated discard minions until you have it. Then you play the Nether Portal if you have it, if not you start discarding in an insane tempo and drop the Portal immediately when you get it. I include Cruel Dinomancer because it has some good targets in the deck (eg.: Lakkari Felhound, Doomguard etc). So the better cards you lose when you start discard in the early/midgame the better cards you will get in the later stages of the game from the Dinomancer.
You may lose board control because of the Quest (you missed a mana in the early game) or when you use the Portal. I put in the 3 boardclears for excatly these cases, because your opponent will not expect a boardclear from a "Zoo" Warlock so often they will play into it. After you have the Portal it will probably be enough to clear the board once and then the spawning imps and your other minions will be too much pressure (I hope) for most of the decks.
Discarding: Malchezar's Imp is your best card in the deck! Don't waste those little imps in the early game, try to combo them with at least one of the double discard cards. (So for example save both Lakkari Felhound and Malchezar's Imp and play them on T5 instead of just playing the hound on curve) It will lead to some mediocre plays but remember, your goal is to complete the Quest. If you can hit two double discards with your imps (which will always be killed on your opponents turn) you will have no problem complete your Quest. The other important thing is to save Zavas if you still have heavy discard cards in your deck. It will be very tempting to play a 2 mana 6/6 but in most cases it is better to save it.
I hope you found the deck and the description interesting, if you have any ideas please share in the comment section!
(I will try and update/modify the deck after Un'Goro launhes. Maybe I will leave less boardclears and 0 removal but I will try it on ladder at first.)
I don't think a control style is the best way to go about discardlock. shadowflame is going to be useless against pirates as they will likely leave you nothing to flame early and hellfire leaving an empty board + giving the initiative to the opponent is bad. I know it's a completely different concept, but I'd suggest trying out a more aggresive style like this. Lots of one drops so less chance of discarding something useful/high impact.
The one ofs in this deck (aside from the legendaries) are cards that can make an impact, but won't be sorely missed if discarded. Also, forbidden ritual has great synergy with darskshire councilman.
You are probably right. I'm just very afraid that the deck will lose the board and can't recover and in that case Nether Portal is useless because your opponent can develop much more stuff on the board and when they see that you have the Portal they will smorc you with their better board (they will know that their only chance is to finish the game immediately).
But I will change the deck, i'll make it more aggresive. Thanks for the ideas;)
If your opponent finds a way to remove all your minions he probably isn't running a deck where you have to worry about their board too much ;)
I've tried playing this deck. It is severely lacking in board clear, which is coming clear to be very important in this early meta. I'd recommend dropping a minion or two for demonfire or hellfire.
