Hi all. This is my Reno Mage decklist that I have been using to climb ladder. Made it to 3 with it last season using this deck exclusively from 17.
Slight variation to other Reno Mage list, notably Pyroblast (really helps as a finisher or to kill a big minion) and Yogg (and since then Medivh and Babbling book to try something different). This deck is extremely strong against aggro if you can mulligan right (and tech in anti-aggro cards), I will do a mulligan guide below.
This is the most fun I've had with a deck for a while so I hope you enjoy.
The currently edited deck is teched for playing control. As much as everyone keeps complaining about an aggro fest, I'm facing more control decks than anything else. Look in mulligans for a guide as to what to tech in for aggro.
Mulligans:
Generally against aggro: (and midrange though the early game isn't quite as important) you want to keep Doomsayer, Frostbolt, Reno Jackson, Ice Block, Arcane Blast, Arcane Missiles and maaaaybe Frost Nova. Forgotten Torch can be ok as well but Frostbolt is better.
If you are struggling against aggro try tech in Twilight Flamecaller and Cult Sorcerer as they help with early game control. If you can get past 6 turns and you have Ice Block or Reno in hand your chance of winning goes up massively. Also if you are not getting these cards trying prioritize draw over play minions so you can get either Reno Jackson or Ice Block while controlling the board. Drop you Bloodmage Thalnos if you have to for a distraction.
For control you don't have to worry about early game as much, I found getting Elise Starseeker down early is always good. Otherwise try keep some card draw and board control. Generally try hang on to Reno Jackson or Ice Block as well so in case the opponent tries to burst you down. I have found Reno mage is pretty much favoured in most control matchups...maybe not against Yogg Druid or Heal Paladin but other than that most control matchups you should have the upper hand.
Matchups:
Midrange Hunter - Slightly Unfavoured (due to their potential for burst and sustain)
Aggro Hunter - Haven't played many but I assume the same as Aggro Shaman
Dragon Warrior - Slightly Favoured to Slightly Unfavoured depending on the opponents skill.
Control Warrior - Favoured
Aggro Shaman - Favoured if you mulligan right
Midrange Shaman - Same as midrange Warrior
Freeze Mage: Favoured
Healadin or Anyfin Paladin: Slightly Unfavoured
Reno Warlock: Favoured
Zoo: Favoured
Miracle and Thief Rogue: Favoured
Yogg Druid: Slightly Unfavoured
Beast Druid: Check midrange Warrior.
(Those are all the matchups I can think of for now. Let me know if I've missed anything)
Have fun, hope the new info helps and post comments and suggestions below!
This deck is nice against aggros 0-14

Your thoughts on Mediv Wallet and Avian Wathcher in Reno mage? IMO too unreliable cause only one secret.
Yeah I wouldn't rely on either of them because of only one secret... I prefer the spell damage for board clear from the Cult Sorceror. But I was thinking you could replace it with Babbling book for fun. I was thinking of trying to run Medivh and Prince Malchazar but not sure what to take out. Pyro could probably be subbed for Medivh..not sure about PM cos it might make draw unreliable
Prince is bad IMO, Medivh... well i don't know. Do this deck need another not reliable WC? I think Tony+Elise is more the ok
Great deck! Was comparing it to this one:
Yours is better tho, but i am wondering about Flamewaker instead of Twilight Flamecaller and maybe sneaking in a Mirror Image, because its a good combo with Archmage Antonidas.
Havent tried that out yet tho.
Hey man! Thanks for the comment! Glad you are enjoying it. Yeah I obviously had seen that Reno Mage deck floating around and tried it out but I didn't like a few of the choices. Flamewaker I felt like I never got enough value out of where as Twilight Flamecaller I used for pinging divine shields or anti aggro or also as a combo on top of Blizzard. I'm still not 100% sure I want to keep it, but at least from my experience it feels stronger than Flamewaker cos it always does something, where as FW gets bursted down quick and often doesn't have the same value as in tempo mage. I also decided to sub out mirror image because I had enough answers to early game and with Emperor Thaurissian I usually had something to combo with Archmage Antonidas. I usually only play Antonidas on turn 10 or later so I usually have something to combo with him. Also Cabalist's Tome also usually pulls something you can use. I'm considering subbing out the Cult Sorcerer as well because it's usually just for the Spell Damage buff as the body dies pretty quick but I'm not sure what to replace with it yet. I feel like the addition of Pyroblast really helped me win games and Yogg-Saron, Hope's End saved my ass many times :D . Pyro helped lots against quicker aggro decks that try and burst you down. I feel they are the biggest threats to this deck. Please if you have any suggestions pop them in the comments as I am trying to refine this deck. Been the most fun I've had since Yogg-Hunter
I subbed Cult Sorcerer for Babbling Book. I then had a game when a 0 mana Book got me a Pyroblast ftw.
Awesome! Yeah BB can definitely work. I just use cult sorceror for early game control against aggro, so they clear it or extra +1 spell damage on a Blizzard or Flamestrike
